It is probably just me, but I'm having trouble reading this comic. Is the script available or a fan transcript?
I've just brought the Transcripts up to date on the site. The Transcript link is located on the page just below the actual comic. [1490 Transcript]

Didn't read over the whole thing, but note that the twin-tail kit's name is Yakugashi, not Yakugasui.
Let's pretend it's my eyesight's fault.

Who are you and what have you done with Iffy?

The main question for Mugi and Yakugashi seems to be if grandma kitsune is any bit like Junpei’s grandma as described by the ninja himself — a character who enjoys teasing those she holds dear.

But — teasing or not — I think her first objective was to spook Mugi out of thinking she knows all there is to know about their own… life form? — and I’d call that effort quite successful…

I'm pretty sure that Mugi knows exactly what the facts are and just how precarious her on existence may be. Imagine that you had every reason to believe that you haven't been hunted down and killed by your close kin is because you managed to spawn a daughter that they found to be worthy of living

This comic has already been longer than some story arcs that I've seen in other comics.

And that is a good thing.

Whee! According to the Twitter feed, Fred is drawing more Sawatari family stuff on index cards. Camping seems to be a good environment for creativity.

I seem to recall Fred having given the family members names at one point. I could have sworn seeing their names penciled onto a copy of Sawatari Family Values. Maybe it's in chat logs.

As for the story here, it seems that the whole spine-ripping thing is in the past but still uncomfortably recent. Great Grandma's generation might have been the last ones to do that kind of thing, making her hints of a revival of the old custom something that can get a kitsune's fur up. If the whole thing ended for no reason other than "it's the modern era now, so we should just kind of stop doing it" then Mugi might have...concerns...over the fact that some in her extended family seem to think she is not providing a good environment for her two-tail daughter (even though the're wrong).

For some reason this made me think of a roadkilled racoon I had to pick up in front of the house the other day and I wondered if that was the sort of fate Mugi could have been facing
Another body found dangling in the "suicide forest..."

Contrary to popular belief, that wasn't my shortest post ever. (I believe that was " ? " or " No. ")

Some things don't need explanation or wondering over.
Although yes it's not quite clear how much of this is literal, the story makes it plain it's not supposed to be clear, and there's an underlying current of something else.
A short easy visual story part that's filled out as much as it needs to be, flows well, does what it's meant to.
We learn lots of interesting background quickly all at once, and see more of the skillful ways of having the story explain itself when it's supposed to.

SWEET was quite appropriate. ;)

Fred's handwriting takes some getting used to, and usually it's much worse than what you see on those index cards. :P

Awesome. I guess in MT, at least in certain families, the older you get, the more powerful? Wonder if Memei is getting stronger, too.......

This is cool. After puzzling over some of the words, the only phrase I couldn't figure out on my own was when grandma says Mugi is "Always scary". I was like, "Always sexy? Always sneaky? Slavy? What?"

The artwork seems really clean and to have things in good proportion to each other for just quick index card drawings. I don't have a problem with it. If there's sketchy or no background, well, the background usually isn't what I'm focused on when reading comics anyway!

The writing was easy enough to follow and gives it a nice touch as well.

A spinoff about the Sawatari family that runs parallel to the main story would be awesome, especially if we get long installments like this! Fred's handwriting is easy enough to read even on an iPhone, although it did take me a moment to decipher a couple of the smaller word bubbles.

A few people have mentioned Fred is planning to take the comic in a dark direction, and Fred hinted that some element of this side story factors into the main plot.

Possibly relevant: Yakugashi mentioned that Mugi has no magical powers, being a one-tail, and that the family views Mugi as a problem (and disposable, although judging from the look on her face, Mugi didn't realize that until now). Evidently kitsune culture can be brutal. Can't wait to find out more!
