<pfft>

I*m sorry, I quickly read hatching and had an image of Fred/Piro sitting on an egg with the comic starting to pop out.

I need sleep.

Fred had started on 1556, but then realized he needed it to go differently. So he scrapped what he had and started over. He sounds happy with it now. Got the first panel drawn today and hopes to get more drawing done on monday.

To the third frame of the comic being drawn
as seen on the yesterday's broadcast

I dedicate this translation of 'The Smile of Gioconda'
(not in tune to music, just the poem is hillarious)
Original polish song by Malgorzata Zwierzchowska and Olek Grotowski

Francesco del Gioconde
sat back on the throne
sculpted in leaves and sea shells
looking disapprovingly at
Master Leonardo
painting his wifes portrait.

It was a hot summers day
Wind wasn't even touching the ivy
The servants were all asleep in
the nearby wineyard
Mona Lisa's cheeks were shining of sweat
and her feet she were keeping cold
in a bowl of water

Leonardo slowly stained the canvas with paint
While model's husband like an old cat
Purred: "Dearest mine, don't be staring
with such sadness on thy face
Otherwise this portrait will become
a caricature!"

Here, to lift her spirits, he tried to be funny,
then he told her an old millers' tale about a princess
then he tried touching her knees like a perv
then he looked at the wife, and there, she yawns...

And the painter could not take this any more
He felt so much power coming from this unsettlement
So much that he opened up and called to Francesco:
"She's yawning! Sire must you have surely
not let her sleep at night!"

Hearing this, Lisa reminisced the alcove
and her husband's duke-like royal stature
especially when he puts on the robe and the sleep hat
and also, that he's twenty years her senior

And how he puffs and huffs before he finally falls asleep
And so as she reminisced all this, and her humor has brightened
then an enigmatic smile floated up on her face
... which has been then put on the canvas, forever!

---

Hah i really should be pushing the translation forward lol.

Or as Doctor Who put it a bit more succinctly, "That dreadful woman with no eyebrows who wouldn't sit still."

Access to more than three spatial dimensions; knowledge of other worlds; knowledge of the cracks in universes, which are hidden by unknowable geometry; knowledge of the information that lies within those cracks. So Fred is an Elder Thing?

Cool!

(tl;dr: Elder Thing:
- Ancient mostly undying aliens of unhuman form from the Cthulhu mythos.
- Capable of both interdimensional travel and interstellar travel without bothering with ships. Or suits.
- Builders of hidden cities with strange geometries that warp human minds.
- Able to control and twist dreams. As with the 'strange geometries' this does not improve a dreamers' SAN rating...
- Creators of Shoggoths, monstrous creations used to fight in a war with multiple starfaring races. They almost won.)

Fred could also be borrowing a little bit from 'The Number of the Beast". ;-)

Sigh. You know something's wrong with the universe when Outsider gets more regular than Megatokyo. This is why I don't buy any more MT merch. And thank God I didn't put money into the vaporware.

Fred's part-time job has taken a lot more of his time than he had thought it would. This is the last week of that though, and he's very much looking forward to getting the comic moving again.

For crying out loud, in the twitch thread now? Here I got my stupid hopes up that someone had something interesting to say about the twitch session I missed this morning. (The fact that a complaint about Fred not working on the comic enough was posted literally while Fred was working on the comic is, as Douglas Adams put it, "an irony I no longer relish.")

Fred has put out about 1500 comics in about 20 years, or a bit more than a comic a week. Outsider's About page claims they have also been going since around 2001, and have produced about 160 comics. That's not "more regular" than Fred, that's a good factor of ten less. Fred could stop posting comics at all for a HUNDRED AND EIGHTY YEARS, starting up again when actual Star Trek stuff was supposed to have happened, before running the risk of becoming less "regular".

Hah,
this seems to be the 'feature' of the newer generations I think...

'tis an unkind world, if you try to win an argument these days, everybody is so focused on how THEY are right and NO ONE ELSE is. Even if the other side has perfectly valid arguments that should be considered (or even are superior to my own), I shall never back down or admit I could be in the wrong... even if I know perfectly well this may make me the laughing stock; after all, no one judges the victors...

To try to put my own post on-topic: a few days ago I tried re-watching one Twitch broadcast, and the chat was not available... just when Fred seemed to have been chatting a lot about Moeko, drawing her (I liked the first version of her wand hand sorta better tbh).

At 58, I'm not the "Newer Generation".

I'm the older generation, where you keep your word, and if you say you're going to produce a mousetrap, you dammed well produce a mousetrap, better or not. And as for Outsider, I didn't use the word "lately" but it's strongly implied. The very sparsity of Outsider comics over the years is the point I'm making. (For now. I expect it to go back on hiatus at any point). As for Piro, excuses, excuses, excuses. It's always something. To be clear, I don't begrudge him a living nor envy his life issues.

I'm just not such a fanboi that I have to waste hours hanging on every line, every shade, every... twitch?, while distracting the author and fellow fans with my witty repartee.

There are those who say Piro can do no wrong. There are almost certainly those who say Piro can do no right. (There's always such people, no matter the subject. Killjoys, and I despise all of them.) Then there's folks like me. Fans who follow the strip for years, even if we don't live on the forums or Twitch channel, who check for their promised weekly script... again, again, and again. Who look at their Largo & Erika "clubbing" picture on the wall. Or Kimiko's poster. And go "dammit, still no strip today?"

Folks, please. We're all friends here. It's ok to want more comics. Everybody does, including Fred. It's wonderful that so many people still support Fred and MT despite all the problems. It's less wonderful that some people get very angry at Fred, as if them yelling about it will somehow change the dumpster fire his life has become and magic more comics or the vn into existence. Ubu is right though that there is room between those extremes for people who sigh deeply at how long it's been since the last comic and roll their eyes whenever the vn is mentioned, yet still come by in the hopes that today will be the day a new comic appears. I know it can be frustrating, for everybody. But let's all try to remember we're here because of the comic, and that gives us all a good reason to be friends.

Ubu is right. And I am an old fan too. Since 2010. I admired what Fred did, and enjoyed his works. But The trend I have seen over time unfold has been giving less and less but asking for more and more. I have also seen him toss around emo stories about how bad his art is on the one hand, while valuing it in his stores at 400+ dollars. Theres been a very uneven give and take relationship between him and the consumers that allow him his lifestyle. And it just seems to be getting worse.
And I will be watching for the 4 pages of comics for the month now that patreon goal was reached. Seems to be always missing that mark. Continuing the trend of asking for money then not delivering on what was promised in return.

Perhaps, but my original question still stands: what's all this got to do with the twitch channel, or with discussion of what's been seen there recently? If someone wants to start a "Fred Sucks" thread in Story Discussion or Central or whatever at this point, it's certainly not my place to say anything about it. But for an existing thread with a specific stated purpose, I do not consider it exceeding my bounds as a user to question the appropriateness of such a post in that particular thread.

That's particularly true when the obvious attitude is "I'm not getting what I want, so I'll go and make things unpleasant for folks who have no influence at all on the problem I'm having". Acceptable losses is one thing, friendly fire is another, but simple stirring up shit with no benefit of any kind to anybody to offset that cost is something else entirely.

So, not to argue against you, (I have nothing but respect for you, paarfi), and I do understand the sentiment in which you intended the above, but... like Terri Garr said in Tootsie, "I don't take this shit from friends."

Perhaps I shouldn't really post this here, given the recent mood but...

In the recent twitch cast, Fred revealed that his school bus driving season is over and he'll be back in full-time comic drawing mode in a few days.

Good Lord! No wonder he's been slow in posting comics. Even if his total number of hours working at real jobs (as opposed to Megatokyo) is a reasonable number, the bus-driving has to wear him out -- the little ones will wear you out physically ...

"Hey! You! In the back! Yes, you, Tommy! Sit down and be quiet, or I'll make you sit down and be quiet!

..... and the older ones will wear you out mentally .....

"OK, boys and girls! Pipe down! I don't need to listen to your melodrama!"

..... (memories of riding school buses in the '60s and '70s) ......
