Watched a couple of Chinese anime: "Creatures Family Days; Shiyan Pin Jiating; Jikkenhin Kazoku" was OK, but the end was strangely truncated - if they only had another 5 min? "Bai Ye Ling Long" is cute, but forgettable.

Yes, "Tenrou Sirius the Jaeger" is pretty good so far.

Halfway point:

Angolmois is okay; the background filter still gets in the way though.

Banana Fish has a lot of people dying, and there's not a whole lot to the plot. Another average show.

MHA is simply cruising at this time....

Overlord is cruising too, but if you're way OP, that's all you can do. Not a fan of CGI ogres.

Steins;Gate 0 is turning into a train wreck, and it's getting late. Action scenes are not what they do best. Writing isn't very good either, particularly in the last couple of episodes.

This has been by far the weakest lineup I've seen in the five years of watching anime. Tried to watch Joshiraku, but it got boring really quick. Dropped.

A Place Further Than The Universe was pretty good, though the plot was a little too neat.

Latest in the Watching Classics Because This Season Sucks is Usagi Drop. Max Heartwarming.

Edit: As I sometimes do, I check to see if there's any source material.

Then I found out Daikichi and Rin get married in the manga.

Basically why I didn't buy all the volumes of Usagi Drop. I was actually reading it by the volume purchased, but then I decided to read ahead online after hearing a bit of a shitstorm about the conclusion. How the second half turned out is kinda....

I actually went back to the old MT forums and read the Usagi Drop anime thread. There was much angst back then about the manga, too. I can see why Rin came to feel the way she did(incorrect as it was, IMO, but she was just 16.) , but not Daikichi. Yukari was there for the taking, but he wussed out, and grabbed the low hanging fruit, as it were. I'm tempted to see if the mangaka ever gave an explanation as to why it was written like that.

My experience with josei stuff is that they do enjoy their more 'forbidden/taboo' relationships.
SpoilerShow
Though Usagi Drop went out its way to do this convoluted explanation on how they ultimately weren't blood related. Which makes Daikichi's grandpa even more of an oddball.

I wouldn't have minded nearly as much if the progression felt natural, granted I'm not sure if it could even feel natural ever. But there was just a lot of melodrama with all the previous relationships just falling apart and then we're simply presented with that.

It also kinda felt like Daikichi was giving in to Rin rather than it being an actual thing he wanted.
Well there's always Amaama to Inazuma or Barakamon I suppose.

Actually, I had a great uncle, when he was in his 70s, have a similar paternity issue. (I don't think the baby was his, either, but he thought it was.)

Funny that you mention those two titles, as they are among my favorites.

I guess I've always had a soft spot for Josei stuff. Nodame Cantabile, Chihayafuru, and Honey and Clover are on my short list of stuff to catch up on. Fune wo Amu isn't officialy classified as Josei(At least MAL says it's not), but I think it is, and is also a favorite of mine. As is Rakugo.

I didn't watch anime for several months, but am watching it again, currently watching Nagi No Asukara. I'm a little more than halfway through the show. I especially wanted to comment on how, for the second half(/second season/whatever), the new OP does a spectacular job at matching the tone/mood of the second half of the show (at least the couple episodes I've watched so far). And honestly I think the new OP helps to enhance the show in terms of helping to actually set the mood.

I'm just really impressed.

This show has grown to be very tasteful and, in terms of the emotional parts, they are just really well-balanced in my opinion. I guess I would say, everything seems to make sense.

I dunno, anyway, this show was recommended to me, and I finally got around to watching it, and the show has been quite moving to me, in a balanced way I guess.

There are some things about this show that remind me of Shinsekai Yori (which is one of my favorite shows ever). I'm wondering where this show (Nagi No Asukara) will rank for me in terms of my favorite shows when I'm all done with it. So far it's looking to be ranked very high for me.

I agree, the OP was done very well. Athough there were angsty bits(considering the circumstances, it could be understood, I guess), the second half was the best of that season.

Thanks for the tip on Shinsekai Yori!

Aside from the semi-unique premise, it's kinda generic. Decent, but generic.

Curious, I read High Score Girl online as far as available. Once you get past the Rugrats art style, it's pretty amazing. Hope they animate the whole thing eventually.

Trying my hand at Madoka Magica; I keep finding myself dozing off during the first two eps, for some reason. Not a fan of the Yellow Submarine art style around the witches.

Emerging from corporate slavery to say that I am reading TOKYO TARAREBA MUSUME which is very sobering and requires a stiff drink upon each reading.

Also TONEGAWA is very good--reminds me of when I was even more severe corporate slavery.

Bellhops: No.

Finished Madoka; it was a slow buildup, then BOOM!, then chill at the very end. Spent most of the series waiting for Madoka to become an MG, but the plot path used to get her there works ok.

On to Nodame Cantabile!

Nodame Cantabile isn't exactly what I expected so far; there's a lot more slapstick and lol moments than I anticipated, and Nodame is a pig. A lovable, good-hearted pig, but still a pig. Pretty good, overall.

Working on Nodame Cantabile Finale now; I think Hawasume's Nodame characterization is the spiritual ancestor of Date's Momose from Wotakai. I think they should've done a better job with the Chiaki character, but Nodame makes the show.

Toradora? Sure, why not? I like the characters(except for Kitamura), and Taiga and Ryuugi have great chemistry......

Finished Angolmois. It was OK. It wasn't exceptional at anything, but it didn't suck at anything, either.

I would've rewritten Toradora! to move quicker in the middle, and slow down the end, but all in all, it was very good. Lot of stuff didn't make sense to me, like Tiaga staying away from Ryuugi for a whole year at the end, but whatever. Still superior to anything this summer.
