Does anyone remember when she first manifested the phantom parts?
I'm pretty sure it was in the last panel of
[1544].
That's what I thought. So there was no manifestation while she thought Kimiko was dead back in 1469 and 1470, getting shot at or playing demolition derby with TPCD mechs in 1478 and 1481, or her crushing despair over Junpei in 1482. It starts after the interlude with Komu's eight-tail mom, she delivers K+P to her hotel, Yaku and Miho face off against the Ninja clan...and Megumi agrees to help Ping with her little problem.
Is this transformation a reward for her bravery? If so, who's bestowing it?
-Yaku's grandmother? She certainly seems to be off enough to do something like this without warning the recipient first, but if kitsune are so desperate for power that they'll steal each other's tails, why give it to someone else?
-The city itself? Why? Why toss another destabilizing element into the mix? Yeah, I had the idea of the nine-tails as a counterbalance to the magical girls, but dumping a mantle of power onto someone with no experience and zero warning - thus traumatizing them into a major panic attack - is not a great way to create someone able to use this kind of power with reasoned care. Toss around trucks and medium sized buildings, maybe.
-The TPCD? Nope, they're having the vapors at mundane 'monsters' getting media exposure. Like any police organization, they're about order and control, and the Kitsune literally embody chaos.
I dunno. This is clearly a surprise to everyone so far. Maybe grandma will have some answers.
