What are you Watching/Reading Q2 2019

Spring 2019 promises to be interesting, at least. I have the largest Plan to Watch list I think I ever had.

Still continuing Dororo and Shield Hero.

Bokuben is based on a harem manga I've been reading for almost a year now. The PV looks like crap, but I hope they clean it up before it airs. It deserves better.

Don't know how Bungou Stray Dogs S3 will top S2, but I believe Dasai and Co. will still be entertaining....

Carole and Tuesday could be one of the greatest things ever, or it could be overdone.

PA's latest is Fairy Gone. I'm going into this one cautiously.

Fruits Basket has been super hyped, hope it lives up to it.

Isekai Quartet may interesting. This is a short, right?

Kimetsu no Yaiba could be the sleeper of the season.....

Will J. C. Staff screw up One Punch Man S2? The Internets sez guilty! I'm going to watch it, anyway....

Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san will at least be cute, I hope.

I think that's it......

Blargh I had a whole thing written up and it lost my post because it timed out.
Basically still watching half or a third of the airing shows.

[time to abuse mod edit powers]

List of shows, some new most old--
Kaguyasama was really fun, but probably also not substantive enough. Good example of what anime can do.
Fruits Basket is just like the old one. I went to the preview showing near me and lol, such fangirl groaning and moaning.
Dia no A is back! Good recap and jumping into the next stretch of the story.
Catching up on Pastel Memories and it is not great, but solid otaku food. Perfect kind of watch-for-the-seiyuu work short of actually worthwhile.
DomeKano was good throwback-feely trash. Didn't like the plot conceits but sure was juicy.
I just finished Kotobuki last weekend. Glad I binged it as it was a bit rough to do it episodically. Good anime
Moving on to starting Kemurikusa, but I am already halfway through before pausing...
Manaria Friends is the hottest anime i've seen lately. Even hotter than the new Trinity Seven film (outside of that chestrub scene I guess).
Quints is great. Also throw-back-y. Well, great in a "this is quite fun and the characters are enjoyable" way I guess. Miku is best btw.
Shield Hero was okay but even tho I finished it, I didn't think I would miss it if I didn't.
Tensura was a lot of fun in a yo dawg, "I herd u liek worldbuilding so I build a world in your world building anime" way.
Yakuneba was also very catchy. Only if every escape room anime was this riveting. (I'm looking at you Rokka)
Mob Psycho is great, I like how this builds on the first season by recontextualizing what happens. Still haven't finished yet.
Wataten is great. Forget Lolita, this is the new lolicon gospel.
Enjoyed the new Boogiepop anime, but really behind. Hard watch...
hmm missing some stuff I'm sure.

Other shows i neglected due to eventing lately: bang dream s2 (kind of eh anyways), price of smile, ekoda (interviews were great), Grimms Note (oddly enjoyable for me but sucks), Roommate is a cat (good show I like but not in mood for this...). Want to finish Endro but not sure if it'll ever happen.

Hmm still need to finish Tsurune and Chio School Road. Recently got access to Netflix (but lost Prime...?) so I will have some shows to watch too.

Fruits Basket is very nice, at least the first ep was. If there is a nitpick, it's the CGI "smoke" at the end. Otherwise, if it holds up, it's definitely a keeper.

Still keeping my fingers crossed about Bokuben. The OP and ED are good, and the animation is showing a lot better that the PV had it. The story is coming along slowly; hopefully, it'll reach it's stride soon.

They could've skipped the brocon sequence entirely, though.

Kimetsu no Yaiba started off strong; good animation, OST, characters, and story.

Fairy Gone is typical PA: looks really good, plot makes me scratch my head.

Heh,

just caught up to Rising of the Shield Hero, and it's kinda a refreshing take on... some things people believe :)

Also as the 'effort to catch up to great classics' I caught up to Rin-ne and just started reading Ranma 1/2 hahaha. Looks like another one to binge read on :)

So finished Ranma and now having a read at Kaguya-sama: Love is war...
Also early days but This Girl is not Just Cute is another of those quick and lightweight ones you like me for hehe :)

Also (ninjaedit) slightly heavier but I'll worth it : Mata, Kata Omou. Just working through its first dejavu ...but seems like something interesting will be happening.

Uggh, you like Kaguya-sama?

How... cute. <sneer of disdain>

No, just kidding. :D Yeah, Kaguya-sama is brilliant, no argument there.

I keep rereading New Normal Class 8, but have yet to settle my internal debate on whether it is awesomely weird or weirdly awesome. :iiam:

Sarazanmai is hahaha. Even if I don't understand what the hell Ikuhara is trying to do, the presentation still never fails to amuse.

I just found a pretty interesting one : Dioti Manual ~Kamisamatachi no Ren'ai Daikou~. There's been only 13 scanlated chapters so far, but I am on 9th now and feel like can't stop :)
Aaand done.
Other ones I'd like to mention are the 'retired/returned hero' series, The Hero Who Returned Remains the Strongest in the Modern World and The Strongest Wizard Becomes a Countryside Guardsman After Taking an Arrow to the Knee. Early days on both but the premise is at least amusing.

If I had to cut a show, it would be Fairy Gone. (Or is it Fairly Gone?) What a snoozefest; even the action sequences are low key.

Hi,
this is creepy but...
I just happened to walk on a manga that has a (pretty creepy) character called Shiori : Summer Time Render.

An isolated island? check.
Reality is a game/simulation/perception filter? check.
Character named Shiori? check.

this comic came to mind... ofc because I was just about after translating that one :)

There has been much weeping and gnashing of teeth over the animation of the second season of One Punch Man. No, it's not as good as the first season, but it's OK. My problem with the show is the cramming of all the content into 12 eps. Everything seems so rushed.

OPM was never really my thing but I noticed a lot of discussion on how the next season would be poo after it was revealed that JC Staff would be doing it instead of Madhouse.

I did some backlogging. Watched Comic Girls. Well, it's very Manga Time Kirara. Really cute, but not really much substance. Still it's somewhat more balanced than the likes of Kinmoza so I kinda like it a bit more than the usual Kirara stuff. I quite enjoyed Kaos-sensei's misfortune cause I have a thing for unfortunate cute girls. Finished off Irozuku, it was alright but not exactly the strongest of PA shows I've watched. Also polished off kitty roommate anime.

Pretty much decided which shows I'm watching this season.

Fairy Gone: I wish this was better, but I'm just gonna stick with it for the sake of variety. The exposition dumps are certainly awful and I don't quite like it when shows try to do the whole overly explained world settings. Its nice to have for longer works that have taken off but seems like kinda misplaced effort for a show that might just be forgotten in a few seasons. Also there's just better ways to reveal this information than the hamfisted way they've been going about it, with their episode start fact blurbs and whatnot. Eh, still more watchable than Glasslip.

Fruits Basket - It's done well enough and it's been long enough that I don't quite remember it that well anymore. Art style and some voices take some getting used to. Mostly just Yuki, who I still mentally imagine with a feminine voice.

Bocchi - CGDCT. I couldn't really get into the Mitsuboshi Colours manga, but I'm fine with this.

Kimetsu no Yaiba - I'm really enjoying this. It's just really well made.

Sarazanmai - Just enjoying the Ikuhara ride.

Bungou Stray Dogs - Never really expected this to keep getting seasons, but it is enjoyable so I don't mind.

Leftovers would be Jojo and Karakuri Circus. Jojo is Jojo. Karakuri Circus is so hilariously rushed that I just wanna see how it wraps.

I discovered Haru x Kiyo... some catching up required but omg, lol. On chapter 17 right now. If you liked Horimiya, this is even more fun. Though it is kinda more traditional than that, regarding roles, but can't help but lol.

When I start dozing off while watching an anime, it's time to drop it. Bye-bye, Fairy Gone.

So far this season, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Carole and Tuesday, and Fruits Basket have stood out above the others I've watched. (I'm not an AoT guy.)
Bungou Stray Dogs has been OK, though it has dragged a bit.
Bokuben has been a lot better than I feared it would be; it's nowhere close to seeing a resolution for Best Girl, as by the time it's finished, it won't be 1/3 through the manga.
OPM S2 has lost the magic, and it's more than just the second rate animation, the pacing and script is off, too.
Kitsune has been pretty benign, though some parts are a little creepy.
I do wish they had made Isekai Quartet full length; after the Op and Ed are done, there's not much time for hijinks.
Dororo has remained solid, while Shield Hero has slipped in pacing and writing, though at times it still looks good.

Did I mention, that Route End was coming to an end? (in translation ofc, not sure when the original has ended)
It did, and oh boy, with a twist.
SpoilerShow
I mean, by all means do not read this, if you're getting counselling for anything...

Picked up a couple of new(to me) manga in the past week; both of them feature sadistically bullying first years. Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san (Please don't bully me, Nagatoro) is sort of an amped up version of Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san, where a first year girl bullies a second year boy. On this one, I'm just waiting until the girl realizes her feelings, and confesses.

The second one is a lot darker. 1-Nen a-Gumi no Monster(The Monster of 1st Grade, Class A) Has a lot of drama, the MC is one dimensional, and so on.

As someone who's up to their neck in the Gotobun discussions on MAL(and #teamYotsuba from almost the beginning), this paper is the most amazing thing I've read all year! :ugeek:

Just dipped my toe into the black hole that is Chihayafuru. One Ep down, 49 to go, hope to get them done before season 3 comes out this fall!
