Whatcha watchin' / readin' Q1 2019

Post by cidjen » Wed Jan 02, 2019 5:23 am

Umm yeah so happy New Year y'all and...

what the hell is it with shoujo manga -_- is it really for girls only or is it for the boys to help figure out what girls think?

... just caught up to A Kiss, For Real by Fumie Akuta ...

But on the other hand, I recently discovered Battle in 5 Seconds After Meeting and so far it wasn't too disappointing.

Continuing Slime, nothing else going on at the moment, might have a half dozen new shows on cue for winter.

I've started watching Lovely Complex. I love it. It is so cute and funny. Cute as in, adorable romantic comedy. And funny as in... more rambunctious/boisterous humor. There's probably an official term for the comedy style but I don't know it.

I've also started watching the 2nd season of Symphogear. I can't figure out why I like this show but I do. I know it's partly because of the music and cute girls but that's definitely not the only reason. I'll probably figure it out as I watch it more.

And still working my way through various other shows:

Chuunibyo demo Koi ga Shitai - hilarious and cute

Golden Time - I really like it as a serious romance/slice of life anime

Girls und Panzer - super cute and fun

Idolmaster Side M - great, fun, cute/funny idol anime - I like it a lot better than Idolmaster Cinderella Girls but not as much as the first Idolmaster (which is one of my all-time favorite shows)

Moyashimon - kind of watch it intermittently, it's a fun show

My amount of anime watching has increased recently.

First thoughts.......

Boogiepop isn't hard to follow, but the characters are just too dull. Animation isn't very good at times, either. I'll give it a couple of more eps to see if it'll get better.

It'll take a little digging online, but the manga I sold my life for ten thousand yen per year is worth spending a few hours.

How clumsy you are, Miss Ueno is kinda fun, and plenty stupid. 10 minutes of this a week is all I can take, thank goodness.

The Rising of the Shield Hero is kinda predictible, but done OK. Giving it 3-4 eps.

Started watching Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. I like it so far. So far it fits the bill for a good drama slice-of-life anime.

Started watching Joshiraku. I guess I was expecting it to be more event-based (like the style of Azumanga Daioh maybe) than dialogue-based. I guess there has to be more actually happening for it to fit my tastes. However, there are 2 things that have gotten me to keep watching the show: 1) the characters really are cute and entertaining. 2) I guess I still have some hope that more things will actually happen. Which has kind of happened already, since they have at least gone to different places (though still not much has happened).

Oh, and the OP and ED are really cute.

Still watching Lovely Complex - sometimes it gets too mopey and dragged out (in my opinion), but still overall has the same style of humor and everything. So still enjoying it overall.

(And still watching the other shows, no updates)

(Also, been reading QED and CMB recently)

GATE: was made into a two season anime; it's OK, it has its' share of highs and lows, but definitely watchable!

This season seems to be a lot better than the two prior....

Dororo is a reboot that I(naturally) havem't seen before. It's off to a solid start.

I was originally going to skip Quintessential Quintuplets, but I heard some positive reviews, so I gave it a shot. It's not bad, not near as trashy as I thought it would be.

I was anticipating Love is War, but I don't care for the narrator. Chika best girl.

If the rest of Mob Psycho 2 is as good as the first ep, then it'll be the best show of the season.

Neverland is going to be killer, too.

Revisions is a hard watch, more for the crappy characters(Milo is cool, though) than the CGI. May drop.

Masamune-kun's Revenge was hit and miss(mostly hit), but kinda dropped the ball at the end. I think there's a sequel to it out now. Definetly binge-worthy.

Well I'm on chapter 46 so already after the twist is fully revealed; It kinda has the vibe that the artist(s) must have wanted to end it there somewhere? But I'm gonna tough it out till ending. [EDIT: just finished, and wasn't bored at all. Does the sequel have the same title?]
Must say though it kinda got me interested when I read the 'Revenge After School' extras where the main couple was kinda batlle-coupling... But so far, for me it ranks right after or even on par with Horimiya , for the overall comedy-drama vibe and hillariousness.

Nope. Good, focussed and well told, stories are, well, good…

Bloom into You / YagaKimi is one of my few ‘Read online, bought the HardCopy’ set.
(Which also includes MegaTokyo…)

Did you see the Bloom Into You anime? Recommended. Great translation to the other medium. Hoping for a series 2, here.

Started watching:

Galaxy Angel: right up my alley. Just the kind of humor and characters I love. Well, except for a part of the first episode - for me, when something has too many cats, it becomes sickening to me. Cats are cool, but too much, and I guess it just becomes an overload/saturation. But getting past that, I love everything else about the show.

Mushishi Season 1: A couple years ago I unknowingly watched Season 2 of Mushishi (Mushishi: The Next Passage) because that is what is on Crunchyroll. Now I am watching Season 1. So far, I'm thinking I might like it even better than The Next Passage, which was great in itself.

Aikatsu: I think the design of the CGI in the performance sequences is really weird, but I think I'll get used to it - and I like everything else about the show.

Violet Evergarden: looks like just what I was expecting: a serious show that looks pretty good. I'm looking forward to the rest of it.

Continuing:

Joshiraku (anime): I finally figured out a way to describe it. The style of humor is much more crude than I expected. Which isn't exactly my cup of tea. However, I've enjoyed the show enough to where I've watched almost the entire thing and will continue watching. Cute characters, and interesting humor, still maintains my interest.

Lovely Complex: As I mentioned previously: at times it gets too mopey and drawn out, but the general humor and cute romance is something I love, and which makes up for it. I'm enjoying this show.
