Re: What are you watching/reading Q1 2021?
Okay, now for a postmortem of the shows I watched last season:
Noblesse finished a predictable and bland as it started(minus the high school antics). The animation wasn't bad, so there's that.....
Jun Maeda and PA Works did it again. Create an underwhelming work. The Day I became a God, while it looks good(per PA spec), is simply a middle school level drama, at best.
Higurashi almost begs me to keep a wiki on another tab, just so I can figure out what's going on. Characters are mostly annoying.
Every once in awhile, there's a show that looks promising, and starts off well, then turns to crap and gets worse. Wandering Witch is this season's example. Very rarely have I not liked an MC as much as Elaina.
Talentless Nana does have an interesting MC, one that you almost want to root for, given the circumstances, but the tropes are heavy with this one.
Moriarity is mostly fairly well written, and has a nice Victorian look, but the bishounen Moriarity and Holmes take a while to get used to.
Is the Order a Rabbit? S3 provided a weekly overload of sweetness and cute. It's a show that knows its strengths, and uses them the best it can.
I've always liked Tonikaku Kawaii from its early manga days, and the anime hasn't changed my opinion. Nasa and Tsukasa are cute, but the side characters is what makes this show great.
Jujutsu Kaisen is simply Shounen Jump goodness.
Golden Kamuy's best points are strong characters, and a great story. Then you got the middle school jokes.....
Best show for me last season was Akudama Drive. Cartoony cyberpunk setting and characters, but it's an extremely entertaining ride.

Re: What are you watching/reading Q1 2021?
1st new show for me this season is Quintessential Quintuplets S2. They have a new studio, which has given it a flat and plain look, but the characters are more true to the manga than S1. I really liked the 1st ep, but it looks like they are going to rush through a third of the manga, and skip quite a few chapters. Not happy, since a couple of them (Yotsuba's date) are my favorites in the manga.

As one that is up to date with the manga, Horimiya is awesome, even better than I had hoped!

World Trigger got a big upgrade in looks and feel! Season one I think was focused on a kid's audience, but this season is a lot more grown up in presentation.

Giving Low Tier Character "Tomozaki-kun 3. It has potential to be good, but also equal potential to be trash.
Same for "Boonies"(The title is way too long). It has Ai Kayano in it, having way too much fun as a witch, so there's that.

For those who were reading Promised Neverland. There has been at least four additional chapters released after the end of the story. Back story, side story and possibly chapter 0.Yl33 D4 N00b wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 10:59 amAll I have to say about Promised Neverland S2 is just wow......

Non Non Biyori Nonstop is like plopping down on your grandma's couch. As a rural person, the opening minutes just hits. The OP and ED are great, the girls are great, and the new characters are great.

Mushoku Tensei is actually pretty good. Never considered this at first, but there was a lot of buzz about it.....

Yuru Camp S2 picked up where it left off, comfy as always.
Slime S2 is doing the same, though not nearly as comfy(unless it's a Rimuru pillow).

From out of nowhere(at least in my eyes) came Wonder Egg Priority. As for the plot, I'm not clear on where this is going, but it looks and sounds amazing.

Re: What are you watching/reading Q1 2021?
It's early in the progress (and first 5 chapters appeared on the usual suspects in November) but ... If you liked the Fred's take on seiuu radio with Kimiko, you might like The Two Sides Of Seiuu Radio. (There is a smoking Chekhov Gun already in there, it might get creepy, but the characters art eems to be influenced by something I saw before, so just putting it out here.)

Low Tier Character Tomozaki-kun is a keeper; matter of fact, I've started reading the LNs the anime is based on. It's an easy read so far; I like it, at least through vol. 2.

Re: What are you watching/reading Q1 2021?
Apparently, the Promised Neverland anime has veered off significantly from the manga, leaving a huge trail of salt in its' wake. As an anime only, it did seem a little weird.
Re: What are you watching/reading Q1 2021?
I thought the first three episodes of season two were pretty much on with the manga as was season one.Yl33 D4 N00b wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 3:44 pmApparently, the Promised Neverland anime has veered off significantly from the manga, leaving a huge trail of salt in its' wake. The issue was with ep 4. You'll just have to watch it to pass judgment.jkhartl wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 11:38 pmI thought the first three episodes of season two were pretty much on with the manga as was season one.Yl33 D4 N00b wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 3:44 pmApparently, the Promised Neverland anime has veered off significantly from the manga, leaving a huge trail of salt in its' wake. Re: What are you watching/reading Q1 2021?
Oh yeah, the anime left the rails. I guess the showrunners didn't think there was enough angst in the manga.Yl33 D4 N00b wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 10:52 pmThe issue was with ep 4. It was short but Majo-Senpai Nichijou was cute and intense

Picked up a relatively new manga called Skip to Loafer. Seems to be a traditional romcom so far, we'll see.

Re: What are you watching/reading Q1 2021?
Well, we now have an official shitstorm over ep 6 of Mushoku Tensei . I won't spoil the details, but it's over the MC being a pedo.I feel the scene in question(even though it was in the original LN) was unnecessary, and should've never been put in the anime. I will keep watching the show to see if the MC has a change of mindset, but there's no excuse for a modern anime to have this crap in there. I've never felt so cringe since the Usagai Drop manga.

It appears that the Tonikawa manga has shifted gears, and is approaching it's climax. All the weird little clues in Tsukasa's backstory are now coming together.

Not objecting to Tonikawa, just commenting on it:Yl33 D4 N00b wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 9:36 pmIt appears that the Tonikawa manga has shifted gears, and is approaching it's climax. All the weird little clues in Tsukasa's backstory are now coming together.
140 chapters of bland vanilla sweetness, often apparently about whatever the author saw that day while websurfing or was nostalgic for, occasional vague hints of "something ominous might happen" that lull the reader into complacence by repetition, do-de-do-dee-doo... Basically the Seinfeld of romcoms.
Previous chapter: Slightly-stronger "something ominous might happen", otherwise normal
Last chapter: "no really something ominous might happen, seriously", do-de-do...
Last panel of last chapter: (^_^)°
