Apparently magic girls are hazardous to their love interests in general. Masamichi and Yutaka have more to bond over than just baseball.

Ririko's baby talk could get really annoying after awhile I think

How much trouble is Yuki in with her very-protective-of-her-son, potential mother-in-law? On a scale of 1 to 10...

I mean she's ticked all the threat boxes:

X Actualised physical threat
X "Stolen his heart" threat
X "Capable of replacing his mum" threat (at least as an MG)

If Yutaka's dad likes her she's doomed.

This is a point where the whole POV nature of MT comes into play.

When Junpei first recognized Meimi meeting with Erika he was visibly disturbed. Later when he attempted to intervene with what he'd incorrectly assumed to be an assassination attempt on Largo he was barely able to match Meimi and that was only because she wasn't really going to kill Largo. She in fact unmasked him and scolded him for hiding his handsome face.

Fred once did an homage to Puella Magi Madoka Magica in fact. If you're familiar with that series you'll know just how incredibly dark MG's can be

I think Ririko can turn her "baby talk" on and off, depending on whom she's talking to. She was talking plainly to the patient in panel 2.

So every time Yutaka got hurt, it was by a little blue car? I think it's "time for a little chat" time with Yuki; I believe Ririko will go easy on her, this time..... :D

So she gave up her powers to save her husband to be? Interesting.....

Largo, look over there, there's your reason they all skedaddled.......

Yeah, Ririka knows Yuki already. And she's been on the magical girl side of this kind of thing herself, which is why she put two-and-two together so quickly. I think she'll approve, even if she'll worry at the same time.

Well, she doesn't say that, just "My-". Though that seems like a strong possibility. I kinda doubt that interrupted phrase is short for "Mysterious Thief Saint Tail" like it was with Junpei [715].

Yet another negative aspect of poor Ririka's eye injury... you can't tell she's winking at Yuki in the last panel. ;) :D (A variant of the old "stopped clock being correct twice a day" gag.)

Largo is understanding and speaking Japanese?

Erika: <Hm, Did they all get tired of playing with us?>
Largo: <Let´s chase them>...

If it's not a minor flubble on Fred's part, my only worry would be that Largo went and wired the transleetor chip from his phone into his own skull [1].

But either way, agreed: the appropriate response to this strip is not to nitpick, but to stare at panel 5 and go "DAAAAW..." :D

Wait, she didn't know Yuki was a magical girl? Isn't she friends with Yuki's mom, don't they talk about these things? Or I suppose she could just be playing Yuki? Not sure at this point, I guess it could go either way.

Well as I pointed out in an earlier post, magical girls are viewed much differently in the strip than they are by most of us readers. I strongly doubt that anyone ever gave their daughter a Magical Girl Coming Out Party

Well, it came across to me as a sort of amused smugness. Since that means her son has obviously captured the attention of his crush. And said crush being a magical girl just like his mother... some mothers would respond positively to such a development. Especially if the girl happens to be the daughter of an old friend. Plus, a girl like Yuki, who up until this whole magical girl thing was apparently the good obedient student type, with good grades and the responsible one in her group of friends.

Of course, Yuki is going to get a stern talking to, and hopefully that will be followed by some mentoring, but since all the damage to her son will heal, I'm sure Ririka will forgive her.

Though something else hit me as I was contemplating this comic. The division in Megatokyo is not between forces of good and forces of evil - it's between forces of Order and forces of Chaos. Thus it makes total sense that the forces of Order would be terrified of magical girls, since they are chaotic tornadoes all by themselves. Almost all magical girls are Chaotic Good, or Neutral Good at most.

I started thinking about it, and really I could only think of two magical girls that are Lawful. The most prominent is Madoka Kaname, who is clearly Lawful Good (see the epilogue to Rebellion), though even she would choose Good over Lawful if she has to make the choice. She just thinks you ought to be Lawful whenever possible - even if it makes things harder or more painful. The other is Sailor Pluto, which makes sense for the Guardian of the gates of time.

Magical Girls follow the Code of Love. Putting it bluntly a Magical Girl would have assisted Helen of Troy escape her marriage to Menelaus and elopement with Paris regardless of the effect this would have in causing the Trojan War.

Well, it could be that they both say that to each other so much, it's become a "stock phrase" or an "inside joke" between the two of them.

p.s. https://megatokyo.com/strip/1027 for the big blue sedan.

[/quote=iffy] I concur with that.
Though i wonder if it is a side effect of whatever sacrifice of her MG power, or simply just part of her character. The incomplete sentences too.

Edit to add:
iffy wrote:< maybe the translation brackets mean they were conversing in very high level elite speech >
Or maybe Largo actually learned a few sentences in Japanese? Key terms maybe? :ninja:

@Invisgoth

Well... maybe. (Didn't Paris use some magical item to make Helen fall in love with him? Magical girls would probably be against that.)

However, a more generic example of adultery is not as easy to decide as you might think. I mean, that puts eros up against storge. Love vs Love. And actually... most magical girls place enormous emphasis on storge (family love, but also enduring unreasonable demands because of loyalty similar tofamily love).

I think it's more that you never know which side the magical girl is going to come down on. I mean... Yuki as a defender of love could have decided to support Kimiko's more gentle loving relationship with Piro instead of Miho and Piro's cycle of hurting each other. But instead Yuki seems to be in the "true love" camp and so gives preference to Miho due to her precedence and the passion surrounding her and Piro's relationship.

Thus Magical Girls are dangerously unpredictable. They're chaotic chaos (and might occasionally fight for the forces of Order, but you never know when they might switch sides again).

If Ririka was upset with Yuki she probably would not have been so flippant with the baby talk. “So you’re the little b**** that’s been beating up my baby boy?”

btw, i know about the error in todays comic. No, largo does not suddenly know how to speak Japanese. My god, its not Armageddon yet. :P

As far as Ririka knowing about Yuki being a MG, Masamichi just found out about a week ago.

So if EVERYONE in the battle (except for Erika and Largo) had Magical Girl proximity alarms, does that mean they were all MTPCD? Including the factions that were supposedly just Miho fans?

And oh, boy, is Yuki ever in for it now. Just look at the expression on Mrs. Kobayashi's face. I suspect that Yuki's mom will be called before too long.

Did the hoard show up today as they did at the school? It seems like it was just the MTPCD. The hoard had loss tract of Miho they may not have had time to respond to her presence.
