Let's face it, we remember Junko's reaction the last time Ping rebooted her chest parameters...

I thought Ping had no memory of previous configurations. Is this the first indication we've seen that she is aware of this now?

This comic is a much-needed spot of fun, right when I could use a laugh. Thank you, Fred, especially for all the work that went into her superfrizz hair. Of course, now that Junko has described it for us, you realize this is only going to make me pester you even more for a Copic version? (Eventually, that is: I'm dying to see where this arc is taking us first.)

So, is Ping just upset and this is how her subroutines react? Is her program trying to cope with being in idle mode for so long without a specific game to play? Or is there something weird going in the MT universe now that Miho is off the reservation and all trope-sensitive beings are having a bad hair day?

I think it's more that she hasn't read the manual than anything else.

Also, I feel for Ping. I need to reboot my hair sometimes too.

I so want to see a color version of Ping with rainbow hair ^_^

This is a superb return for Ping, Fred. And there's nothing like personal problems to distract someone from being abandoned by those thought to be friends.

Priceless.

I'm thinking a lot of this may be side effects from Largo's additions and their abrupt removal.

I'm wondering if maybe Ping picked up a virus while she was connected to the internets.

i know people tend to go through drastic changes during big shifts in their lives, but I never thought I'd get to see it played out on a physical level.

Seems like she is experiencing a system wide corruption. Will just a reboot fix it? after all she is a prototype so there may be lots of unexpected issues. Can she do a full system reboot herself? Or will she need someone to power her down completely and restart her? If it is the latter, where is her power switch located?

That could be another possibility, though what sort of AV software do you use on her OS? Is she Windows based, Mac based, or Linux based?

Well, the jump from high drama, super serious to the comedy sidestory is a bit jarring, but seeing Ping again is great, and I thought this page was very funny. Can't wait to see what is triggering this. Did Largo's tinkering screw up her programming maybe?

Lol. poor ping. But this makes me wonder...could the power of the story be trying to rewrite ping into a miho clone to kill off?

At the CoE Ed was messaging Ping right inside the virtual noggin, and the staff was using her as a sort of bait. Before The Horde demolished a number of things and was waylaid into dispersal, Miho suggested Ping might have gathered certain essential powers somehow. Then after Ping was so distraught for 10 days about Miho's absence, Miho shows up, but they don't interact, and then (to Ping) goes absent again without nary a clue as to even a summary. Plenty of things could be making Ping go haywire in whatever ways for whatever reasons. Much seems wrong even if unclear as to what eyes and weight and hair potentially portend.

Heck, it would be a lot more ambitious, but I would love to see an animated version of such a colored image. :D I mean sure, Junko's "rainbows" comment could just be referring to a static color configuration, but I am having more fun imagining waves of different colors rippling across Ping's hair dynamically. (A million years ago I had Ping say in one of my rescripts that her hair was fiber optics, so this is pretty old head canon for me.)

Well in Chobits, Chi's power switch was located... um... well... (whispers) down there.

I'm not sure I'd call this lighthearted ...
Look at things from Ping's point of view. Her systems are going haywire. It's obvious from Junko's reaction that these changes happened overnight at slowest, so who knows what Ping will look like tomorrow? And are her 'identify friend or foe' systems also going to go off?

Unfortunately the people that actually know what to do -- Sony -- also want to frag her in the most physical sense possible. Maybe Largo can help? For certain values of help?

Whaaaahahahaha! That second frame!!! Priceless!!! =D

Total win, this one!

Thanks Fred! You made my day. ROFLOL!!!

=D

Anyway, I do concur that to Ping, it must be scary. And from *her* POV, I feel for her.

Comicwise, I’m just left to wonder if she’ll turn into a frog next. She might even get some attention from Piro if she did.

=)

Hmmmmm...
My weight parameters could use a reboot too.

If Ping were to do a full reboot, would she still be Ping?

Sort of like transporter technology as viewed in Sci Fi movies. They disassemble (kill) you, then reassemble you at the final destination. Does the disassembled person, actually walk off the transporter grid, or is it a perfect clone with perfect memories, all gloriously recreated in exact detail.

Would a full reboot for Ping, actually correct many things that aren't problems, but don't meet system parameters. Thus changing Ping in thought and mind.

Considering Bones disdain for transporters, I wonder if he was more right than he ever thought.

Good point. Dunno. She has been constantly evolving though. Either she does remember now or it's just plain obvious that things are awry.

Yeah I think it's mostly her programming being a little lost because nobody's interacting with her in the manner intended for the product. Fred seemed to imply that the bizarre mix of personalities in the Ibara household has something to do with Ping's physical adjustments going haywire.

I've been wondering myself which of those things it is.

"Reboot" implies different things than words like "reset" or "reformat", so probably it would still be her.

Well just like when you reboot your computer. It would go back to the last known good configuration.

If Ping can reboot her weight parameters, could someone please provide me with a link to that subroutine?

Since the first time; Miho has taken her home and played with her, Largo has hacked her, and she has had access to the internet so she may be more self aware now.

I was under the impression she was aware of her previous configuration but wasn't aware of changes, as in [https://megatokyo.com/strip/880]. Apparently her physical parameters can change outside her conscious control or awareness.
