Mobile Games?

So who plays these filthy things? Who allows them to consume you inside out? Who throws their life savings at gacha only to cure themselves into a serving of gravlax?

After getting a smart phone I've went from just Bejeweling to more long term involving titles.

As a long time Type-Moon fan, I've settled into Fate Grand/Order after some peer pressure from the irc chatrooms I still linger about. I can't read Japanese, I have no idea what's going on but I enjoy collecting waifus.

I've recently gotten into Fire Emblem Heroes. This game upsets me. But yet I still keep playing it. Flinging my free orbs into the abyss and moaning about insufficient feathers. The recent Tempest Battles event is such an absolute goddamn chore and they are releasing Grand Hero Battles into the middle of it. Then my arena streak is broken at 6/7. Didn't get any of the brides. I'm so salty that you just need to cure me with additional sugar and dill and then eat me for breakfast with a croissant.

I've been playing SukuFes (Love Live! School Idol Festival) for... wow, has it been three years already? I mostly play on the EN server, but every now and then I'll play on JP if there's a card I want. I've been playing BanG Dream! Girls Band Party for a month or two now, hoping that gets an English release before too long. And while I haven't been bit by the Fate/Grand Order bug just yet, I'm looking forward to trying it out when the English version ships later this month.

Proud to say that everything I've done in these games has been using the free-to-play mechanics. I have yet to spend a single red cent.

I used to play School Idol Festival. And as a game that matters more on your skill than your inventory - it did appeal to me. But keeping up with events does take a lot of bloody effort, and it wasn't doing any favours for my eyesight. I think after a year or so I stopped. At that time, inventory management and skill leveling was a total pain in the ass. I hear it's gotten a lot better now.

I probably won't jump ship to the English version of FGO. While being able to enjoy the story sounds nice and all, I'm not giving up my collection of rare shit accumulated these past two years. Playing both versions in parallel will be too much work. Someone will probably upload youtube videos of the story somewhere....

I played the first two Kindom Rush games . They were kinda fun, and I like tower defense. But it's almost too convenient having them on my smartphone. I found myself doing that instead of other stuff I really ought to be doing. I've avoided installing other games on my smartphone since. I imagine this is an attitude that just comes along with my increasingly grey hair. :)

Been playing Kamihime Project. Which is basically Granblue Fantasy if it were focused more on waifus. ...And uh, netorare.

Considering trying out the English version of FGO once it launches, since I've never played the JP version.

Yes, the mobile games, they raid my pocket book.

Kingdom Heart: Union X
Puzzle & Dragons
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius
Sword Art Online: Memory Defrag

And yes, I will be playing Fate Grand Order when it releases on Sunday.

those F2P rhythm game that you grind to rank are not skill games, they just take a lot of time. I guess being able to play rhythm games for a long time is a kind of skill.

I play them, because this is the next thing. 30 years ago it was hard to watch anime and read manga because not much was available localized on this side of the pacific. Mobile games are kind of in the same boat today, in that they're at the heart of this cultural evolution for otaku, except unlike anime and manga it's backed by $$$$$. So this is why FGO is coming over here in 2 days.

Currently I'm playing Million Live only, really. On my phone I have Bang Dream, Deresute, GBF, SRW alpha x omega, shadowverse (does this count?) and Microsoft Solitare (does this count???) installed game-wise. I actually have a couple other games but they're not the F2P kind.
I also spent money on games, although just the IMAS ones.

The game engine/battle system aside, Kamihime Project is actually more enjoyable to me than GBF. That said I actually really dislike GBF, it's just the kind of game that drives me crazy because it's so tedious and the challenge factor is not engaging. Plus the dialog kind of suck. So it's kind of a low bar. But the pornographic stuff in Kamihime is kind of bad, I guess, so I stopped.

Eh? You used to play too? On DMM or on Nutaku?

Fate/Grand Order Facebook Page wrote:EDIT: This is separate from the RANDOM tutorial 4 star summoning.

Thank you for your patience. As a token of our gratitude, we’re giving away a BIG reward! Players will have the opportunity to PICK ONE 4-star Servant from a potential 10. The servants are: Emiya, Marie Antoinette, Siegfried, Chevalier d'Éon, Heracles, Stheno, Carmilla, Tamamo Cat, Elisabeth Báthory, and Martha. More details to come, so make sure to check the Facebook page often!
Nice. With the other launch bonuses added in, this means that newbies in the EN version will start off with at least three guaranteed 4* servants. Might as well pick Tamamo. :v

Nutaku, mainly checking out the translation. I talked to some people who played it on Nutaku when it was newish and got the general idea. That said, I played it for only a few days, it is not my kind of game (see GBF).

Yeah. I guess regardless of the second 4* servant, right now you can reroll and do a free roll each time (not the tutorial roll) so you can actually aim for that Altera or whatever.

Omo is BAD CIVILIZATION! :v

I do agree about Kamihime being really grindy. I'll probably start cutting back once I get a chance to try out FGO this weekend.

Well if you ignore events and stuff, fundamentally it's down to your skills whether you are able to clear a song or not. If you ignore the usual gacha trappings, there's still the typical ultimate goal of finishing a song with a perfect full combo. In that sense it's skill based, and at least a lot more than the usual character-gacha-battle type games. At the very least you can frame the game in your head to be something like that.

Just because you can hit the achievements for full combing a song or whatever, doesn't make the game reward you base on those. Every one of those reward you based on how much you grind. I mean, without events, I don't think people would really play those games after a few minutes each song comes out.

And sorry, I reroll (casually). I don't have the patience some really bad(?) people have nor the time/attention span.

Tried out Tales of the Rays, and I'm genuinely surprised by how fun it is. My only experience with the Tales series so far has been Symphonia, and the battle system in Rays actually feels pretty close to it. Having most artes only be unlockable through the gacha is annoying, though it helps that the game is pretty generous with its in-game currency.

I used to play them but I stopped because of in-app purchases. I need the money to purchase a new set of truck rims.

Well here I am having started Girl's Frontline and now it is dominating my life.

Before that I was fairly enamored with Honkai Impact 3rd. It has actual action gameplay and isn't too money grubbing. But there was way too much daily grind that I couldn't ignore and it took too much effort to keep up so I had to let it go. Mostly because Girl's Frontline is grabbing my attention now.

FGO and FEH has been largely relegated to daily logins.

I got also hooked on Girls’ Frontline. It’s great not being restricted by a stamina system. I wonder if the Guilty Gear/Blazblue crossover will get brought over too.
