Re: [1538] Mad

Junpei still has some respect for his folks. Were it otherwise Dad's crack about using girls as a shield could easily have been countered with, "The way you two using Grandma as shield?". :P To me it more strongly brings to mind Worf's "If you were any other man, I would kill you where you stand" f...

Re: Confessions of a beginner translator

this context does not fit. I am really not making myself clear here. I apologize for that. I am trying to explain that it doesn't "fit" in the original either. There is no (English-speaking) woman that would call someone trying to peep up her skirt a "chicken". It doesn't fit the context as you say...

Re: Confessions of a beginner translator

This 'c' word is not something you call a peek-up-ing male [...] Well, yeah, neither is 'chicken' in English. Again, that's kind of the point, Largo is confused, but he also doesn't even get how confused he actually ought to be (because he didn't even get that Junko wasn't actually yelling in Engli...

Re: [1537] an answer

Do we have any indication how far Junpei's family villa is from Tokyo? 1471 to me seems to imply it's not particularly close. Not that that makes it any closer to Himeji, I just don't see explicit indications that Himeji would be any farther away than any of Junpei's other obvious choices.

Re: Confessions of a beginner translator

I want to echo paarfi's thanks as well, and offer my appreciation for your hard work. Translation is notorious in that there's no upper limit to the effort you can put into it while still being dissatisfied with the results as you describe above. ;) This is why e.g. recently, the 'chicken' in the co...

says he isn't going to tell us Miho's real name (since she's actually Irish, Miho isn't it).
Mih O'Tohya :P
Hmm, I was told "it has to be Miho T. O'hya". :(

Re: [1536] Catching your breath

There's something about a Japanese Ninja using Yiddish that makes me laugh and laugh and laugh... Heh. Granted "Oi yoi yoi" is also common in e.g. Russian (cf. Anton Yelchin screaming it as he runs or in some cases falls through the corridors of the Enterprise), but yeah, I got a kick out of that t...

Re: [1537] an answer

Wonder where he'll take them. Junpei's apartment in the city that paarfi mentions above is no doubt known to the other ninja, and if it wasn't under close watch prior to all this kerfluffle (not just the current strip, but his refusal to pick up the contract on Miho), it certainly is now. In my opin...

Happened with Megumi's accent. Maybe this is a hint? Could it be that the "ninjaspeak" is just a coverup?
Except with Megumi it was the other way around; her "Sawatariisms" only popped out when she was under duress...

Re: [1536] Catching your breath

Almost everything that most readers think that they know about Miho is lies. Finally someone makes a statement about Miho I can agree with.   Moreover, I would say that the more convinced someone is about a particular belief about Miho, the more likely that belief is to be mistaken....

Re: [1534] I need something sharp

That one though would be triggering her scary daddy powers. Her scary mamma powers would still be... um.. You know, I am starting to think now is really not a good time to be reminding Miho of all the reasons she has to be even more pissed off at the moment. So I am going to shut up now.

Re: [1534] I need something sharp

I'm pretty sure that Miho is channelling all the scary mama powers for the love of the children that she could never have.... Hmm, a naive young girl, trying to help someone she found strange and maybe a bit scary, only to find herself sucked into something horribly violent and completely out of he...

Re: [1534] I need something sharp

Ah, so the first panel is actually Miho saying "BOOM!" on her way out, just like Hellboy is saying it in the first panel above?

I am extremely pleased to have that explained to me, thanks.

So, um, it's like motion capture for the models of movement, you think the Old Guy is capturing Emotive data for realistic emotion model? Yeah I'd buy that ;) not sure if I'd buy that /game/ but yeah. Oh snap, I just got it; SEVS : Sony eMotion-captured Versatile Simulacrum. (I almost went with "Si...

Re: [1534] I need something sharp

Shame on that first ninja, everyone knows that explosions are always a distraction. Hmm, I interpreted the "boom" as Miho blowing through the ceiling / wall /whatever on her way out. So not an intentional distraction, just a gentle reminder that one should never put one's face along the outgoing ve...

Re: [1534] I need something sharp

She's writing one hell of a bad ass character for herself. It's possible that she's not; that instead of having her nose rubbed in the limitations of her own story (people who love her die, she dies, she comes back somehow, over and over), she is fully focused on someone else's issues for the first...

She's a demi-god at the least and now she's in banshee mode. A banshee is far from the scariest denizen of Gaelic folklore: https://myanimelist.cdn-dena.com/s/common/uploaded_files/1441025792-011b34eb2aad93490483fc75662f42ea.png It will be hilarious if any of the ninja manage to slice off Miho's he...
