Re: ANIME IS PART OF THE REASON I AM THE WAY I AM..HBU

It's two fold: Anime had a huge influence on the angle I take towards queerness and that's neat. Anime also got me my job. Tinkering with AMVs and other things was super neat and I had a passion for it. I eventually went to school for it and I'm now a visual effects artist. I've literally worked on ...

Re: Does anyone here still buy DVDs/Blu-rays?

I actually only started seriously collecting anime last year after DECADES of piracy. Mostly favorite recent shows or classic shows that I want to own forever mind you. ...And a lot of trashy Yaoi/BL/Fujobait.

Re: Anime Fandom Has Changed

Anyway, I wouldn't say the fandom has changed but rather has expanded to the point where it is no longer a niche thing. I use to be able to watch all the must watches and now there is just so much I can only handle/stand a few series. I miss the days where I could and would devour any series I coul...

Re: Anime Fandom Has Changed

I guess I'll post on the forums if I ever swing by Toronto again. I also have a blog in case people don't know. I'm slated to swing by Otakuthon in August... It seems most of my Ottawa friends are doing Otakuthon and I should check it out someday but I'm instead doing ConBravo with some friends. Gr...

Re: Anime Fandom Has Changed

Toronto actually has enough critical mass for "idol" stuff, although in North America a lot of it is fueled by cartoon idols (ie., fake, not-idol things). Heard the one maid cafe there is legit. I went to Anime North from 2014-2017 and met a bunch of Canadians who are into IDOLM@STER which is my ma...

Re: Soo... Junko Iwao signed my CCS cel. :)

You missed out on Hisakawa...would think she might come again however. Man, another rare sighting in Toronto that i missed. Yeah but I wouldn't have cared earlier. My 'drives' at anime cons has shifted over the years. In the last few years is the only time I got more serious about what I watch, mer...

Re: Anime Fandom Has Changed

bravo for writing this up. I see more or less the same thing, but I think the underlying current isn't just access, but structural as well--fandom now evolves around social media primarily, with things hanging off of it like Reddit or more exclusive circles in private forums, chats and the like. It...

Re: Anime Fandom Has Changed

I for one don't really mind the 'loss' of 'big flagship titles'. I always thought fans of some of the 90s big hits got a bit insufferable when going on about how things used to be better and slamming any new practices. Be it the cel to digital transition, the rise of the iyashikei genre and so on. ...

Anime Fandom Has Changed

To start, I don't totally mean this as a complaint. In a lot of ways we now have the anime fandom that I'd have wished for when I got into it in 2001. The barrier to entry to consuming anime is more or less non-existent. My Samsung Smart TV has Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Funimation Go all built in. ...

Re: What are you Watching/Reading Q2 2018

Crosis posting here is my fault I think. :P Also... I'm watching 16 series this season while somehow holding down a full time job and friendships with other humans... Despite this there's STILL anime that friends like this season that I'm missing...I think I liked it better when there was like ONE p...

Neat!
Now I just need to spend the next ten years hunting down Tange, Kumai, and Hisakawa at cons to sign above their respective characters. D:

Soo... Junko Iwao signed my CCS cel. :)

So, Anime North was last weekend. The Friday has thus huge flea market 'Nominoichi' where weebs sell their unwanted anime merch. This guy had a few boxes of character designs books, story boards and animation cels, including Cardcaptor Sakura. So I got haggled this one with Tomoyo, Sakura, Li and Ke...
