Re: [1491] Visiting the Family Shrine [part 2]

It is also said that if the sun is shining while it is raining, a Kitsune wedding is taking place. This is depicted in a segment of Akira Kurosawa's "Dreams" called "Sunshine in the Rain". You can find the clip on YouTube (not sure if I can post links).

Re: [1491] Visiting the Family Shrine [part 2]

There are a few tales which include male kitsune. They are generally depicted as older and wise.

Re: [1491] Visiting the Family Shrine [part 2]

It is interesting that although Mugi's family seems to follow the Asian Kitsune mythology, and have Japanese names, they appear to have freckles. You might expect that a Red Fox in human form would have red hair, but freckles? That would be in line with the Gaelic "Bean Sionnaich" (fox woman), and I...

Re: [1491] Visiting the Family Shrine [part 2]

This is a great side story, and I will be eager to see more! I will be very interested to see what shrine they are visiting. I will take a wild guess that the shrine is not dedicated to Inari, the Shinto Rice God, since the family seems more like the Yako Kitsune, the more mischievous and dangerous ...

Re: [1486] - Not Working

She could be a Róisín Dubh (a Black Rose) or a Ginger, both would fit. The "original" girl who was a pirate queen and apparently became Miho seemed to be depicted as having light hair, but Miho as we have seen her has had dark hair (if she did not dye it in goth style). : )

Re: [1485] - "no idea what is going to happen"

Ah, I definitely must re-read Idoru soon. My memory of the family is faint. Also given what the Vinclu company is marketing now, the "Virtual Companion", Hikari (a Hatsune Miku version is in the works): http://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-asia-38337758/japanese-firm-unveils-virtual-wife-to-battle-lonel...

Re: [1485] - "no idea what is going to happen"

William Gibson is one of my favorites too! Thanks for your suggestion, Invisigoth - I need to re-read Idoru again, it's been a long time. (and that X-Files episode that Gibson wrote is at the top of my list). Hatsune Miku and the other vocaloid avatars are making Idoru real, and now they have come t...

Re: [1485] - "no idea what is going to happen"

Oh, "Mo Dhia" = "My God". Missed that entirely. : p You must have an incredible memory! Many thanks again! Ah, those panels suggest that Miho is not one of the Tuatha de Danaan or Formorrrians, or one of their half-human offspring. So, did she make a deal with one of the Fair Folk (or was maybe curs...

Re: [1485] - "no idea what is going to happen"

Thanks for the welcome! I had registered years ago, but lost that somewhere. Thanks for the links, I knew I had seen something like this before. Now to think back to my research on Irish Folklore for anything that might fit Miho.

Re: [1485] - "no idea what is going to happen"

Wow! Lot going on here. I was confused by Miho's comments until I saw the word "fuath" (hate/anger)....wait...Miho speaks Gaelic??? and she is speaking it under extreme stress, so it suggests that is her first language. Probably Irish Gaelic, as the phrase would tend to translate a bit diffe...
