Re: What are you watching/reading 2024?

I recognized several of your above choices as being in MAL's "must reads". All of the manga in my last post are from that must read list! I mentioned before I saw a bunch that looked interesting, and I was excited to check them out. Now that I've mostly gone through my first list and bookmarked the...

Honey Lemon Soda's getting an anime!! Who'da thunk? 8-)
I'm guessing you predicted that was going to happen :D Sounds interesting. That's a manga I should probably re-read sometime soon. 'Twas good.

Re: What are you watching/reading 2024?

I'm reading: Yoru no Namae o Yonde . It's fantasy, very slow-paced, pretty, and relaxing. The atmosphere kind of reminds me of Sousou no Frieren , but even more homey and relaxed. Or maybe like Howl's Moving Castle. Usuzumi no Hate is a post-apocalyptic story. The first several chapters did a very g...

Re: What are you watching/reading 2024?

Thanks for the heads up on the Must Read promotion! I'm checking out the list just for fun. I also found two so far that look interesting enough to follow for a while, and another eight I'm planning to read at least one chapter of. While you said the Smoking manga hadn't made it to your MAL list yet...

Re: What are you watching/reading 2024?

[That's kinda the whole point, don't you think? I believe shonen and shoujo are largely marketed to the intended demographic in a way where the buyers of the manga can self-insert themselves in the story a bit, since the MCs are relatable to a lot of the readers. For sure. That's what makes it funn...

Re: What are you watching/reading 2024?

Now that I think about it, the ML being a bit aggressive and the FL being innocent is a hallmark of shoujo, isn't it? A milquetoast ML is more of a shonen trope...... This is really true, but in A Sign of Affection Itsuomi is aggressive even for shoujo. When he hardly even knew Yuki he was doing th...

Re: What are you watching/reading 2024?

A Sign of Affection is a pretty nicely done shoujo anime. ML is a little too pushy and aggressive, FL is a bit one dimensional(which kinda makes sense given the circumstances), but they have good chemistry together, and the supporting cast isn't a bunch of tropes. Sounds like a good adaptation of t...

A parody of a parody, huh? You know Eat It is a parody of Beat It by Michael Jackson, right? Lots of layers here.

Re: [1611] understandin' love

This comic is getting more and more offensive in the sense that the kid keeps thinking that Piro doesn't get to choose who he falls in love with and has a relationship with, and has to be sexually coerced and/or physically violenced into making the 'correct' choice. If the genders were swapped this...

Re: What are you watching/reading 2024?

Read up to chapter 176 in The Villainess Lives Again . Letting at least 5 chapters stack at a time seems to be good for this story, because there's a lot of intrigue and a large cast of characters with different motivations to keep track of. My main reaction for the last few chapters is that Lady Sk...

Re: What are you watching/reading 2024?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets suckered in by the pretty pictures in manga. Heck, sometimes I'll keep reading just for that even if the storyline isn't that exciting. I tried The Elusive Samuri before, but couldn't really get into it after 10 chapters. It probably was the cartoonish style. T...

Re: What are you watching/reading 2024?

Yeah, I don't think either Your Lie in April or The Summer You Were There would be my thing. Tragedy and deception just don't enthrall me. The manga I’ve enjoyed the most in the last seven weeks have been mostly shoujo fluff, plus a few exceptions. Koroshiya Datte Mimamoritai is about an assassin wh...

Re: What are you watching/reading 2023?

Here are my favorite manga that I started in 2023, not necessarily in strict order of most favorite. 1.Saihate No Paladin – a good boy trying to do good things. 2. 3-gatsu No Lion – shogi and life. 3. Special A – school hijinks. 4. Kusuriya no Hitorigoto – medical Sherlock Holmes in the royal harem....

Re: What are you watching/reading 2023?

Read Skip to Loafer . That was fun! When I read the description, it sounded like it might be annoying. The FL has these grandiose plans for her life to be the most looked-up-to student and this great impressive lawyer... right as she's starting high school. The she gets lost on the way to her new sc...

Re: What are you watching/reading 2023?

Oh yes, I should have mentioned that the translation of Yankee-Kun sucks, especially after chapter 9, when the manga was cancelled and then restarted due to popular demand. I had to stop and re-imagine what the characters might be saying if the translation were better from time to time. What's HLS? ...

Re: What are you watching/reading 2023?

I just read what I think is my second ever Josei, The Villainess Lives Again . Sometimes I’ve wanted to read a manga that’s more mature than Shoujo, but I’ve heard that at least in the past, Josei was known for being heavy on porn. I do not want to get involved in porn, smut, anything like that. I s...

Ah. What’s up with Ashihara anyway, do you know? I wasn’t aware that the author had health issues until you mentioned it. Raiyantsuuri no Uta sounds interesting! I've never really run into a manga that addresses how Japanese may have done some bad things during WWII. I can see what you’re talking ab...

Re: What are you watching/reading 2023?

I’ve also been sampling Isekai. Not recommending anyone read these who isn’t a fan of the genre, but I thought a few of them were interesting. Farming Life In Another World , Hero of God Eye (Shingan no Yuusha) , and It Seems the Strongest Job is Not Hero nor Sage, but Inspector (Provisional) Instea...

Re: What are you watching/reading 2023?

Yl33 D4 N00b, I'm wondering if Gunka No Baltzar would be something you would like, given that you're into Vinland Saga I tried Vinland Saga but had to bail due mostly to the heavy dose of bloody death. Gunka No Baltzar has gore and battles too, but is somehow more lighthearted. The setting for Gunka...

Marathoned and finished Love so Life. It was nice. So was Life So Happy, though it wasn't long enough to develop properly, IMO. :D Wow, I'm glad you liked it! Re: What are you watching/reading 2023?

Read some reddit discussions of Saihate no Paladin, you're right, the anime seems meh. It takes them to episode 4 to get to the first really interesting chapter of the manga, which seems way too slow. Also, the general agreement was that even that episode was too weakly executed and lacked impact.

Re: What are you watching/reading 2023?

I think I get you, I've been trying 2 or 3 other isekai lately, and the other ones seem kinda dumb with over-the-top humor and 2-dimensional characters. Don't know if that's true for the majority of the genre yet though, will have to check out a few more. I did read Life So Happy. I didn't enjoy it ...
