Re: [1551] A little rough

Especially when it turns out that his "acquisition" was actually crushed pocky. (Cue the "dime bag of oregano" scene from the beginning of A Few Good Men.)

Re: [1551] A little rough

It's taken a bit of a sidetrack, but hopefully the boys can get back to E3 pretty soon so the actual plot can continue.

Re: [1551] A little rough

I prefer to invoke Occam's Razor here. Heh, usually I am on the receiving end of mockery for applying that... But ok, what makes "nine" the simplest integer here? (I certainly haven't observed nine, er, "scribbles behind her" in any frame.) Well, ok, so (if I recall correctly (paging maldrul ...

no take backs! The Fredrin giveth, and the Fredrin taketh away. Tempt Him not, or we shall (after a weekend of furious photoshopping and reuploading) awaken one morning to a MegaTokyo with no <insert your 2nd favorite character> in it. but she has tails and ears. They are there for sure! I ...

Re: [1550] Raging noises

As far as we know Ping has a GPS tracker that he has been using to monitor her movements. In 1522 Ping's arrival is "a most unexpected surprise" to him, which it wouldn't have been if he'd been tracking her. And to expand on paarfi's point regarding Ed trying to find her, he too is surprised to see...

Re: [1550] Raging noises

To me it looks like he is taking a picture of the area. He will send it to Sony Enforcement Division to have them retrieve his property: Ping and Junko. Maybe... but it seems to me (I may have said this already in a thread or two since 1546) that if he had any interest in retrieval, he would have b...

"Even logic must give way to physics."

The phone's camera angle is parallel to the ground, where Ashe is walking, and not angled down toward the table, where the bill (presumably still) is.

Re: [1550] Raging noises

I’m with you, darrin — except for the sexual servitude. Ping didn’t just *not have access to* the information she thought would be there when she thought she needed it — it just wasn’t there, not waiting to be unlocked as the situation arose (pun). If the SEVS EDS was set up for sexual servitude, o...

Re: [1550] Raging noises

What he is doing now is not necessarily evil but his actions are inexorably leading him down a path that almost certainly WILL involve acts of incredible evil. And even when that goes down, he will be all "Hey, go talk to the R&D VP, I don't decide what gets done, I just do it." The abyss of his so...

Re: [1550] Raging noises

I continue to predict that the "creeper" crowd will end up longing for the day when he used to be merely a "creepy pedophile" and not the existential horror Fred will craft him into. Oh, I totally feel you on the Buffalo Bill vibe Dr. Feelgood gives off D. That grim, detached look of disdain as he ...

Re: [1550] Raging noises

Ha ha, awesome. I called Ashe "Teal'c" at one point in a twitch chat. That half-a-clothesline (? what do you call it when you hook the arm instead of the neck?) is totally a Teal'c move. I tend to want everybody to have good intentions. Despite that being exactly the sentiment exploited by the...

I remember that fanworks thread (if its the Valentine's Day one I think it is) theres a very awkward fanfic from me in there... I was active in the old forums from 2006 to 2009 (and then dropped away till 2017... which i feel really guilty about the gap now, but can't be helped :(). So if that's th...

Re: February 18 marked one full year since the last appearance of the "core four."

I dig Stanislaw Lem :) Thanks :) When I was in grad school and at one point my boss finally got me a new computer, the sysadmin asked what name I wanted it to have. I said trurl . This ended up annoying a HUGE number of people in the lab, since "trurl" is surprisingly difficult to pronounce by nati...

Re: February 18 marked one full year since the last appearance of the "core four."

BTW the reason that I've got a Mod status is that Fred got tired of my being banned all the time and then him having to unban me so now I am a mod :D That... is for some reason both unsurprising, and very very satisfying.  In fact, I really feel politics in general would be greatly impro...

Re: February 18 marked one full year since the last appearance of the "core four."

When I first saw this thread (wasn't it originally in Central?) I felt disappointed, and a little annoyed with the OP: the title made me hope/assume it was going to be about the only Core of any importance in the comic... although that one was more like sixteen years ago, but oh well. Next cha...

Re: [1549] The sum of our parts

(That is, Ping being awesome doesn't give the Old Man and Sony free passes for anything they care to do downstream of that act of creation.) Or anything they did upstream of the act, either. Yes, indeed. (I had considered including "upstream" as well to refer back to the "why she was built" part of...

Re: [1549] The sum of our parts

Sorry, not buying it. To have someone walk up to a "girl" and play with her "ear bobble" only to have her reset to the mode she was in when she first appeared in comic, not remember anything that happened up to this point, and having a completely different personality? Where is the trauma? The clai...

Re: [1549] The sum of our parts

BTW, your scenario would be the Old Man's quickest way to prove his point (if he were to make it) that Ping isn't a real girl. Head injuries and other forms of trauma can cause personality changes in "real" girls (and other assorted humans), sometimes drastic changes. I'm not expecting universal ag...

Pick and choose which you'd like your SEVS to simulate.
And if you're not satisfied, just go to the "Override -> Reconfigure" option in the earblade menu. It's quick and easy, and like getting a whole new SEVS, fresh from the factory!

Re: [1549] The sum of our parts

If you think Dr. Gero is evil then you also perforce believe building Ping was evil. My opinion is that the questions of why she was built, and what's going to be done to her (and her compatriots) now that she's been built, should also factor into that consideration. (That is, Ping being awesome do...

Re: [1549] The sum of our parts

But AI's, or at least artificial personalities, should be developed without observing real personalities? If the goal were really to create an AI, to bring a new life into the world, that could potentially be a noble endeavor. Mapping out which "quirks" of behavior will trigger the most pay-to-play...

Re: [1549] The sum of our parts

She shoved him around, broke things, got angry and stormed off, all because of a point of view that essentially went "How dare you judge us by our personalities! How shallow!" No, that's pretty much the opposite of the "point of view" in question. "How dare you treat actual women as templates from ...
