Wouldn't It Be Great If...., Hey, I can dream :)

I just had the most lovely daydream, so I thought I would share it with you all.

Wouldn't it be great if Fred, for the past few years, had been secretly working ahead in the comics, so that he secretly had a stash of dozens of comic pages that he is going to post all at once as some kind of grand finale!?!



I know this is an impossible dream, but I would simply die happy if it came true Over the years I have gone through stages of leaving MT for a long period of time, coming back and catching up on the comics I've missed (sadly, this doesn't take long), and then hanging around for a few weeks hoping for more than one new strip per week, and selfishly groaning on the inside whenever Fred does things like Having a Life, and Visiting Conventions, and generally doing things that mean delays in comic updates.

Right now I'm in the latter of the two. Will Piro take the phone and make the phonecall? And what will happen when he does? Ahhh the anticipation is killling me! >.<

So I dream, of completely posted chapters and books that I can devour without having to wait weeks before turning each page




Sorry if this doesn't fit in this forum, I was gonna go General with it but there was a post there saying that if it's talking about Story it should go in Story, so I put it here.

We've watched him live-drawing. Afraid this isn't true. Beautiful dream, but not true.

We'll be hitting refresh until the heatdeath do us part.

Actually this could yet be true, only if you don't assume that what he has been working on is Megatokyo the comic. For starters there is the possibility of the Miho figurine, he's sketched this up and my credit card is waiting.

There is also "Warmth", the other manga that we know Fred has been working on (and off) for quite some time. Again my credit card awaits.

Come on Fred, TAKE MY MONEY!!!

Actually, Warmth has been superceded by Proximity as Fred's side comic. He's posted development sketches of two of the characters to his tumblr: [Cable] and [Down].

I don't think he has a pile of Proximity comics in the wings either though. He's doing what he can, and better days are ahead.

Ah bugger I was waiting for Warmth, even went as far as hunting down an old copy of Amerimanga (I think that is what it was called) to get the comic Fred drew.

This is bad, given that Warmth predates Megatokyo and still hasn't been released how many reincarnation will it take before I can read proximity?

Hang on, my mind moves slower than most, didn't Fred post what appears to be the cover for Warmth? Pretty sure he did but fredart.com is down.

Ah here it is, on http://fredrin.posterous.com/tag/sketch and not fredart.com. As Fred says this is just a sketch idea for the cover of warmth. It was my fevered hope that the book was not far behind.

Warmth is vaporware. The last I heard Fred admitted that many of the things he had wanted to experiment with had ended up in MT. This greatly reduces the desire to do Warmth, and my understanding is that it was canceled.

Mmm. I can actually see how some of Warmth might have made it into Megatokyo, if I am reading the sketches right and the Amerimanga issue was more than my fevered imagination. Pity that.

I would loved to see Fred tell another story that is disconnected from the Megatokyo world (Endgames does not count). As long as it includes girls and snow - like Warmth looked like it might - and perhaps be set in japan

Not that the original Warmth was ever planned out beyond a handful of concepts, but yeah, a lot of it got borrowed for MT. At some point Fred decided to move Warmth from Sendai to Michigan, so as to be less of a retread of MT and so he could portray an area he knows rather than one half a world away. The story development actually progressed quite a bit at that point. Then Sendai had that earthquake and I think Fred doesn't have the heart to do Warmth now, because it has that chain of association to a natural disaster.

All the non-MT work is going into Proximity now.
