Watching:
Tasogare Otome x Amnesia - Well, I'm technically watching it. It's getting downloaded and sorted into its folder, but I haven't actually watched anything beyond episode 2.
Eureka Seven - AO - See above, except that I haven't watched beyond episode 1.
Mysterious Girlfriend X - I'm pretty sure I'm going to drop this. It's pretty fucking boring.
Sakamichi no Apollon - I have a rule in my RSS downloader that automatically downloads this series (and the series listed up there) but I haven't actually watched a single episode.
Haiyore! Nyaruko-san - I am watching this with some degree of consistency. Well, I haven't missed an episode yet.
Seirei no Moribito - This looks fucking awesome in blu ray. Also, the dub isn't bad.
Fate Zero - Saberrrrrr

Oh, I'm also watching some fucking blu rays of some "maru!" chick.

Reading:
Mathematical girls - math and shit.
Nana to Kaoru - heh, woof.

My copy of Ore no imouto volume 10 should be arriving this week. Or next week. or sometime.

You should watch episode three at least before giving up on the series. The stuff that happens in that episode is significant, and the mood at several points is notably darker.

There's too much good anime on at the moment. So I've started watching Fairy Tail instead.

I don't understand myself. Even if I absolutely had to watch some typical long shounen series, there are obviously less bland, unremarkable options.

A blog post about Accel World episode 4 made me go watch what there is so far of the series in order to find out who would hurt a girl that badly, and why. I don't know if I'll keep watching it; the series itself isn't exactly to my taste; but I'm going to need to see at least one more episode to make certain that she's all right.

I can sympathize. I find myself watching Nyarko-chan even though I have an episode of Kids on the slope and acres of Uchibros queued up.

Started v3 of Yume tsukai. I'd been reading scanlations, but it turns out the books are an easy-enough read. It will take a while to get through the books I have before turning to Discommunication.

Currently Watching
Fate/Zero - I've generally agree with Kiritsugu's methods to fighting this war, but forcing Lancer to kill himself just hit me in a bad way. But on the other side, even though I kinda figured it would happen due to how things are in FSN, Kirei killing Tohsaka was a good move for the story. Makes things interestin'.
Haiyore! Nyaruko-san - Good zany show. Comedy wise, the show is fairly generic, but the concept of the show is hilarious to me. The Crawling Chaos as a goofy high school girl, the Nightmare Corpse-city is an amusement park. It's just amazing.
Jormungand - Not a whole lot is going on in this show, but I'm digging it. The characters definitely make this one.
Kuroshitsuji - Finally jumped on this bandwagon. Had a hard time watching for the first few episodes, mostly because it felt like a jumbled mash of genres (and the fact that it comes off as a fujioshi's wet dream, at least to me), but now that I've gotten into the show and the story's unfolding, it's starting to be interesting. And then there's fucking Grell...
Medaka Box - Filler at this point. Not doing a whole lot for me, but now shitty enough to drop.
Nazo no Kanojo X - Yeah, it is slow. But it's cute, and it really has me scratching my head. Even if I didn't like it, I'd keep on watching just cause I want to know what the fuck is up with this drool!?
Sakamichi no Apollon - Moar plz.
Sankarea - This show just makes me smile. That's all there is to it. It's a fun concept and Rea's cute as shit.

Yeah, it's a shounen manga written to have fujoshi appeal, but it balances both sides pretty well. Like seemingly everything, the show is better when they're not making up new material, although the second series is noteworthy for being an enormous troll.

Started some Simoun, besides the bizarre and somewhat intriguing setting it is rather dull and feels like a pretentious attempt to be poetic or something.

3 episodes in, not sure if I want to keep watching. I might be better served by finishing off the rest of Pani Poni Dash.

Accel World - A bit of nerd wish-fulfillment, perhaps. I've mainly been watching for the princess, but what will happen after *SPOILER*? Well, there's also the intentionally unintentional innuendo to amuse me.
Natsuiro Kiseki - A lesser Hanasaku Iroha. Even for not being as finely crafted as what PA Works does, it has it's moments. But I expect it'll be quickly forgotten once Tari Tari hits.
Kimi to Boku 2 - This is hovering just above the point where I'd get bored and drop it. But worth watching just for the relaxing mood.
Polar Bear Cafe - Even more relaxing than KtB, and funnier. It's not that the jokes are original by any means, but because it's not just a group of high school girls like every other anime, it feels that way.
Recorder to Randosell 2 - It fascinates me how far this joke can be stretched.
Medaka Box - Dropped. I guess it's just too META for me, or something.
Hyouka - Those eyes. Sort of a "book girl" type, but not really. Close enough to grab my attention at least.
Sengoku Collection - Mouretsu Samurai. This show has no reason to be as good as it is. It's based on a Facebook game, and is just a vehicle to promote Sweety. And yet it's clever, looks nice, and keeps me entertained by not being entirely predictable. One week it's a noir Masamune drama, the next a Bokuden mockumentary.
Sakamichi no Apollon - Anime for grown-ups. It's a bit dry, but very well done. And has me humming jazz tunes all week. (A change from the usual jpop fluff.)
Lupin III Fujiko saga - More grown-up anime. Green >>>>> Red
Fate/Zero - The first season seemed more exciting because stuff was happening, although surreptitiously with lots of talking and walking in circles. The second season is when all that maneuvering comes to a head. As they say, no battle plan survives the first engagement. Or more succinctly, the shit has hit the fan. It's still exciting but of a different flavor.
Sankarea - Good but not great. It's delivering everything I expected from the manga. But it doesn't go much further than that. Nevertheless, Rea is all kinds of cute and the current darling of the internet.
Dusk Maiden of Amnesia - Stiff competition for Rea. Oh, ha-hah. I said "stiff". A dead person joke, get it?
Haiyore! Nyaruko-san - I'm suffering the lousy animation for the sake of amusing (if predictable) jokes and silly elder-god abuse. Too much annoying plot, though.
Mysterious Girlfriend X - Yodare ... Yodere ... Yandere ... Yuri ... Yume ...
Mouretsu Pirates - (not-so) Surprise, lesbians. Yuri: It makes everything better.
Ozma - Just finished. Dropped after 6 episodes. Okay, that was the end of the series. But I wouldn't have bothered if it went on longer. Such a disappointment.
C3 - Cube x Cursed x Curious OVA - a.k.a. episode 13. Everything a OVA should be. A field trip, fanservice, sight gags, test of courage, and self-deprecating humor. Also, neko-mimi tent.
Seitokai Yakuindomo OVA - In the queue as I wait for it to be translated.
Sakasama no Patema - The prologue has recently been translated. I had missed that the elders know about the surface world and keep it a secret.
Onegai Teacher - Went back to this because of Ano Natsu de Matteru. It really is the same story. There are some continuity problems so you can't say it was a sequel. Surprisingly poignant in contrast to what I was expecting. And though Teacher had an unsatisfactory ending, at least there weren't any men-in-black.
SDF Macross - Plodding along. The plot has settled down into a more stereotypical space opera. And a lot of not unexpected anti-imperalist sentiment.

yeesh... that's a lot of anime

C3 - Cube x Cursed x Curious OVA

Seeing a blog post about this got me curious about the series, and I've begun watching it. I've just reached episode 6. The first episode has a... rather different feel to it, compared to what follows. Or rather, it's pretty much 100% of the lightheartedness and 0% of the drama, where the following episodes have them mixed.

I've finished watching the 12 regular episodes of C3. I found it surprisingly good. The first episode didn't do much for me, but after that, the more I watched the more interesting it became. It's probably better when marathoned, like I did, than when watched week-to-week, though.

I like all the girls. I'll take the whole set, please. biggrin.gif

Fairy Tail - Filler material at the moment. Not really paying much attention.
Fate/zero Second Season - It's
Hunter x Hunter 2011 - So good. Totally blowing the original anime out of the water.
Kuroko no Basket - I'm not sure how long i'll be watching it for, though for now it's just fun.
One Piece - Hoping Tate joins the team again for the upcoming fight scenes.
Saint Seiya Omega - wub.gif
Sakamichi no Apollo - Obviously loving this.
Shirokuma Cafe - Penguin is the best character.
Sket Dance - OP shows some pretty chapters. Can't wait.
Tsuritama - Can understand why it's Omo's favourite show of the season.
Uchuu Kyoudai - My favourite show of the season.

Finally watched Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos over the weekend. Ended up enjoying the film a lot more then i thought i would. Story was very solid, not coming across as just another simple side story to the original. Lot's of impact, which is what i end up loving about the franchise. A lot can be said about the animation as well, hot damn.

Because of that, i've been rewatching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Still bummed about the blu-ray release here, though DVD's are doing the job.

I finally finished Legend of the Galactic Heroes on Monday. Not much needs to be said. Loved it all so much.

Watching:
Tasogare Otome x Amnesia - I'm caught up.
Eureka Seven - AO - I'm not caught up.
Mysterious Girlfriend X - I'm dropping this. It's a one-trick pony.
Sakamichi no Apollon - Haven't watched a single episode. Probably should at least give it a shot if I'm going to keep downloading it week after week.
Haiyore! Nyaruko-san - The chaos that crawls up to you with a smile~
Macross - Marathoned the last few episodes to complete the series. Minmay is a bimbo. Hikaru is derpy. Misa is hot. Let's throw a baby around the room, wheee~
Fate Zero - Saberrrrrr
Evangelion - Yeah, I didn't see a thread go up this tuesday, so I'm guessing nobody was actually interested in watching the show. I think the weekly series rewatch has reached its end.

Reading:
Ore no Imouto #10 - I'm actually struggling. If you're not actually using a language, you forget it. having to relearn the language as I go.

A winning formula. It's when directors second-guess themselves with trying to meet the expectations of an established fanbase, or read opinion polls and blogs, and so on... that's where productions go wrong. It reminds me of Mayoi Neko Overrun that took a similar do-what-we-like approach.

Anyway, the plot goes even further off the rails with the Gennai Hiraga story, where Nobunaga doesn't even make a cameo. But it's cute and has some service for sci-fi fans.

... or Nyaruko-san.

So this guy from Aniplex USA is going around Japan making videos. His first visit is to A-1 Studios. It could be interesting for those of us who never go places like that. But he really needs to start writing scripts for his stuff. It's obvious he was winging-it with all the awkward pauses and repeated information. And only being 4 minutes long, it needed to be more focused. I didn't learn anything new about A-1.

Meanwhile, Aoki Ume's latest doujinshi is really nice. She writes about Ano Natsu with cute sketches of Mio and Kanna.

speaking of behind-the-scene stuff, the Infinite Stratos US release has a nice video footage of how they do composite 3dCG stuff. I imagine that's kind of how they do it today, from that to BRS to anything else, more or less.

I caught up with Upotte, and it's surprisingly solid. Still pretty trashy all said but it's fun to watch in that Strike witches kind of way.

Yeah, Usagi Drop was a short but sweet series. Some fans talked up the possibility of a timeskip to when Rin was older, but I'm glad the author kept his integrity and skipped such a potentially disastrous idea. The show was about parenthood, not seeing who Rin ended up with. sleep.gif

Watched Inu x Boku SS.

Found it rather enjoyable. For lack of better way to out it, it was a pretty... balanced anime-like anime. It is a pretty fun character driven romp that kinda shifts from silly comedy to drama and fills the gaps with fanservice without being too blatant about it.

So in the most recent episodes of Saki Achiga-hen, mahjong takes the main point as the Achiga squad moves through the Nationals suspensefully. What makes this most recent episode fun for me is the team bumping into some familiar characters from the Tsuruga team from last season, which leads into some of the funner moments for me based in the manga. As their in the tournament, the show's pace seems to be where the first season's tournament arcs had been, and I like that style.

A blog post compelled me to watch an episode of season 2 of that Korean Zombie Deathcar series, and then completeness required me to go back and finally finish season 1 so I could find out who the blond haremite was. I suppose now I should go watch the rest of season 2, since I skipped over all of it too.

Episode 7 of Sengoku Collection (Matsuo Basho) was delivered almost entirely in 5-7-5. It was visually excellent and with a nice Hemingwayesque story to boot. This may be the best anime you're not watching.

Meanwhile, look who shows up in the Blood-C movie.

And I was clearing out my hard drive of old stuff that I had saved for various reasons. Nichijou episode 10 is still hilarious. Ikoku Meiro no Croisee, as cute as it was, doesn't age well. It's too emo and doesn't have the charm of Aria or the energy of Tamayura.

I keep hearing good things about this series, but.... I'm still an episode behind on Tsuritama and five episodes behind on Uchuubro, and they take precedence.

Though maybe I should swap it in for the Gnarlyhotep show....

Well, there's virtually no continuity in the show, so if you want to cherry-pick and just watch episodes 7 (and if you're a sci-fi geek, 6) then do that. You can hit the rest of the series at your leisure.

The whowhatnow?

You know, Macross Thursdays. Nestor's given up on waiting for the rest of us, and I stopped with episode 10 a month ago.

Meanwhile: I read a bunch of Ume Aoki doujinshi scanlations --- I've bought a few, but not all of them, she should collect them into a booklet...

...As Takeshi Nogami has been doing with his Witches of Africa doujins --- Kadokawa has now published many of them in tankubon form (though without the English subtitles.

Strike Witches: Andora no Majo arrived in the mail the other day, but all I've done is looked through it. It collects random short stories from Nogami's take on the Strike Witches universe. For one thing, it offers an affordable way to get a copy of Sengoku Witches, which might serve as a nice complement to Sengoku Collection.

I finally found an affordable copy of Kaoru Mori's Shirley. A collection of sweet pre-Emma maid stories. Having worked my way through her back-list, it's time to start on Bride's Story.

I saw a Kannagi batch up for download and since I couldn't remember why it was I hated it (and the MT search is still broken) I decided to download it and give it a shot. All I remembered about it was karaoke, IT'S A SONY and some stupid fucking shitty jpop OP that everyone was all agog about.

I made it to the intro and all sorts of shit sort of came back. HIGH SCHOOL WACKY HIJINKS, a stupid tool male protag, the ever-popular osananajimi that doesn't have a chance in hell, doesn't make her feelings obvious but makes sure to be buttmad when the spineless clueless tool of a male lead doesn't pick up on her nonexistent cues, and a bunch of other equally forgettable side characters that function merely to drive the story forward. It's pretty much all downhill from there.

It's a sony.

Blog posts seem to be the cause of most anime I'm trying lately. I've started taking a look at AKB0048. I'm not sure it's for me (if someone starts killing these girls or breaking their hearts I may have to become violent), but it's strangely interesting nonetheless. And I'm certain I heard Yukari Tamura voicing one of the current idols.

Gundam Unicorn Episode 5.

Stuff happens but feels kinda weak after 4's heavy mecha-porn and orchestral drama. The sky battle felt kinda awkward rather than awesome. Also those poor Anskhas T_T

Pretty sure what I said weren't spoilers though-

I dunno, I think you're being too harsh on miss Why Would You Do That?! and not giving enough props to the amazing Mr. Sony. Was it stupid? YUP. Were some of the throw away episodes absolute comedy smashes? Yup yup. If they did a Kannagi 2 with more episodes like the video tape and the OVA and less like (anything where plot comes up), I'd be totally down for it.

These threads used to be "What are you watching/reading this month?", and I'm going to pretend it still is.

A certain scientific railgun graphic novel 4

The "Sisters" arc begins with Kuroko suspicious of Mikoto's good mood --- is this a fake Mikoto?

Misaka #9982 is a wonderful figure, but I detest the way this story-arc disposes of the sisters so easily. Even if they are all a part of a hive mind (how does this fit into the implications of the "Level Upper" story?), even if it's being used to demonstrate the inhumanity of the administrators of Academy City, the wholesale slaughter of thousands of hot-house clones of Mikoto is an appalling narrative contrivance. Though I guess it wouldn't bother me quite so much if it were dozens of them?

Plus, the implications of that cloning technology are left entirely unexplored.

Still, this volume has twice as much Mikoto, which is a curiously good thing, at least in manga form.

Also, the manga has precious little of whats-his-name, another plus.

Horizon on the middle of nowhere, manga adaptation, v1.

Pretty faithfully follows the story as animated, though I think there's a bit more setup involving the little prince who is rooming with the girl in the wheelchair. The character designs are close to the anime, but comparatively understated. Reading level (except for the textual appendices) is pretty simple, though it's pretty lacking in furigana.

Revolutionary Girl Utena episode 25. Up until this point, the show has seemed merely stylized, but not "mind-blowing". I found myself watching the show and wondering what all the fuss has been about (though it's certainly original). Indeed, my favorite episodes have been the recap episodes because of the way they weave the recap into the narrative of the episode. They can be mostly complete before I recognize that it's a recap. Admittedly, I'm watching after it's quirks and innovations have had fifteen years to diffuse into the greater anime culture, so some of what it does is maybe no longer so strikingly different.

If episode 25 is characteristic of things to come, I now understand what all the fuss was about.

Which is why we were supposed to get behind Touma as he laid the smackdown on the person apparently supposed to benefit the "most" for it, where instead we had people complaining of the irrationality of that beatdown back in that thread and on blogs. tongue.gif

And speaking of clones, I've been reading through the manga Afterschool Charisma, which focuses on a school of clones of famous people ranging from Napoleon to Hitler to Einstein and so on. It has some interesting ideas about the humanity of clones, fighting against "fate" and so on, but so far it hasn't fully pulled me in. And yet I'm 5 volumes into it and will keep reading it. tongue.gif

Hopefully someone also smacked down the people ultimately responsible for the whole concept as well as the one who actually performed the murders.

Well, I'll complain about pretty much anything involving Touma. One of the things I like most about the Railgun manga is that he mostly isn't involved.

So, uhhh, yeah. Ah! My Goddess 285. The author finally explains why Keiichi never made a move on Belldandy. cue shitstorm, I guess? Also, since it went on hiatus after this chapter... yeah.

spoilers: This chapter has revealed WHY Keiichi has been a functional eunuch.
You see, Heaven doesn't like crossbreeds. And so, for the entire run (20+ years in real life, 3 years in-universe time), Keiichi has been neutered. Mentally neutered by Heaven. No sexual desire whatsoever. And his mind was also tampered with so he never found this suspicious in the least.

Now, this is pretty bad. Belldandy knew about this the whole time, and never told him. Plus she wanted to keep the seal on because it was easier that way. Oh, she does love him back. But she deceived him for 3 whole years, even admitting to him that she liked being pampered by him after the reveal. And keep in mind, Keiichi is literally a nice and decent enough guy that demons can't tolerate his presence. He's been nothing but loving and supportive of Belldandy, who was a paragon of chaste love and affection.

Hell, that's not even speaking of the two other goddesses, who were freeloading at his house and being treated nicely as well. The one on the right (Urd) knew, although she was trying to fix the problem by getting his relationship with Belldandy to go all the way. Still didn't say anything at all. The one in the middle (Skuld) can be excused, as she had no clue and her mind was blown as well.

And how did he find this out? Belldandy, who didn't want to release the seal on his desire (even though she knew the consequences), was forced to under extreme duress, and fucking Japanese MILF Satan told Keiichi that Heaven was turning him asexual. Belldandy could only turn away in shame for having let it take over three years of Keiichi's life. That's just messed up.
