what are you watching this month in the new season~

Way too many shows~

Easier to say what I'm not following: Polar Bear Cafe, that dog anime, and contemplating the first drop of the season - Mysterious Girlfriend X. I really don't see where it's going.

I don't know what you were expecting out of the series, but I got exactly what I was expecting. Crazy Nyaruko x Mahiro nonesense. Coming complete with actual introductions for the characters, this is just what I wanted.

Let's see, since this is a new thread I'll try to remember the rest.

Tasogare Otome x Amnesia: First episode was interesting, and led me to read the manga. I'll probably want to know more about what happens there, but I'm not sure I have the will to watch the anime week-to-week.

Natsuiro Kiseki: I want something good and happy to come out of this.

Mouretsu Pirates: Sci-fi goodness. Needs more Jenny.

Honestly, I was impressed with how Another Crawling Chaos handled the disparity with the source material (yes you read that right). The anime was pretty upfront with the fact that it's silly nonsense, and it had me checking Wikipedia a few times because apparently the writers have actually read the Cthulhu Mythos 'n' stuff. And played the tabletop game.
Nyaruko brutally murdering a demon while Mahiro cowers in a corner covering his ears brought back happy memories of Dokuro-chan.

Also new this month(ish):

Kore ha Zonbi Desu ka: Obu za Deddo (eww Engrish): More of the same (hurray!).

Mystery Girlfriend X is... squick-ful. I am going to make myself watch a few more episodes to determine if it is actually just a fan(dis)service anime pandering to saliva fetishes or not... ick...

Poyopoyo is still my favorite currently airing anime :3

I actually read a couple vols of Mysterious Girlfriend X, so reading all the reaction is kind of fun. Imagine if they ever animate Sudome lol

that said i'm way behind on backlogs and what not so uh here i go running and hiding for a bit to catch up.

That would be fine. The male lead and/or the female lead has/have a thing about saliva and... ick. Ick ick ick ick.

Somehow this one was more off-putting to me than Hen Zemi. (The tv series, specifically. I have heard... things... about the OVA, but have yet to watch it.)

Y'know, between Mysterious Girlfriend X, the zombie fetish in Sankarea, and Nyaruko licking her lips in a "I'm going to devour you" manner at Mahiro (taking into account that she is actually "The Crawling Chaos" in school girl form...), this has been a really disturbing week in the fanservice department...

Jormungand - Somewhat interested. Mostly because of the name.
Medaka Box - Nisioisin don't fail me now.
Nazo no Kanojo X - Not even sure what to think about this one. Why would you taste someone's drool?
One Piece - Slowly but surely.
Sakamichi no Apollon - Bring me my goddamn Yoko Kanno!
Sankarea - Zombie romance. Hmm...

Katanagatari - More Nisioisin.

Recently Finished
Bleach - Needs to not be done (even temporarily) for the sake of more Rukia.
Chihayafuru - I'll definitely take a season two. Last season's show that I wasn't expecting much out of and was amazed.
Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam - Not bad by any stretch, but pales in comparison to the first show.
Nisemonogatari - Bake had more Hitagi and Hachikuji, but Nise had Shinobu. I can't decide what I like more.
Shakugan no Shana Final - Yeah, wasn't that keen on how it ended. But whatever. It's done.

Cross-dresser of the Dead - the horror...the horror...

Fate Zero - ♪"All you wanna do is ride around Alex, ride Alex, ride..."♪

Nazo no Kanajo X - New VA named Ayako Yoshitani playing Urabe; I'm already in love with her voice.

Ozma - Sand Whales of Dune.

Sankarea - nekomimi hair...why did it have to be nekomimi hair?

Tasogare Otome x Amnesia - slapstick first episode, with the potential for interesting development.

You know, the idea that she might literally want to devour him had not occurred to me...

She's an incarnation of an Elder God (the only one that really takes an interest in humans), who came to earth specifically to buy porn doujinshi and because she thinks Mahiro (a kid still in school and pretty much uncountably younger than her) is hot stuff.

If I were him I'd be more terrified of her than the demons.

And now for something completely different:
Acchi Kocchi: Fucking. Adorable.

there's way too little talk about sakamichi no appollon in these woods that i'm starting to worry lol.

caught nyaruko-san and it was pretty fun as I've gotten more into asumin kana since the flash anime. i guess i should go back and finish that.

but argh so much backlog and i still have tons of con crap to go through.

Hey! "Sundome" is a great love story with slapstick comedy & a lot of kinky sex. An excellent choice for anime. It's not brutal & nasty like many hentai.

I'm delighted that it's licensed already, and about the Crunchyroll stream (starts tomorrow!)

Too lazy to list everything. I think I ended up watching a motherload of shows despite complaining how bleak this season seemed. Although I have no idea if I might drop them or not in the upcoming weeks, or plain forget to watch them.

Either way for more episode 1s...

Jormungand seems like a fun watch. Feels like a more happy-go-lucky Black Lagoon. Koko could pass for one of those insane bishounen villain types, gonna take some getting used to that Itou voice coming out of her.

Also checked out Acchi Kocchi. Too damn cute.

dm knows that, as he's been following the manga for quite some time. Does the weird oneiric scenery appear in the anime as it does in the manga? It used to be one of Mysterious Girlfriend X best parts, and remnants of the author's former series (Discommunication in its best arc and Yume tsukai the whole time).

A tiny bit in episode one. I don't know if there will be more (I don't remember there being that much of it in the manga after the beginning).

Urabe hasn't yet pulled out her scissors, though the sharp-eyed got a glimpse of them in episode one.

The whole saliva thing is mildly off-putting (though, really, move it from a finger to a tongue and suddenly it's erotic where it wasn't before?), but think of it as a metaphor for a hidden secret the two share --- sweet nothings whispered in their ears (later in the series, the saliva becomes a medium of communicating deep, inner thoughts).

Yes, they dance on the roof of Hotel Bad Cat. A boy in a fox mask who looks down from a train could be Matsubue.

It's pretty faithful to the manga, down to details like the stuff in Tsubaki's room (clearly a fan of classic SF movies and The Big O).

Great:
Fate/Zero - Certainly opened its second half with a bang. Or two.
Space Brothers - Is it a coincidence that my two favorite shows have nothing to do with high schoolers? I think not.
Dusk Maiden of Amnesia - I see some dramatic elements, but mostly I was laughing my ass off.

Good:
Mysterious Girlfriend X - There's something interesting here past the saliva.
Sankarea - I'm hearing episode one was a lot of anime-original, which gives me hope for the rest.
Future Diary - Crazy ass crazy.
Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? Of the Dead - More Ayamu abuse is funny.

Okay:
Medaka Box - It has potential, but I'm not sold yet.
Natsuiro Kiseki - Do you believe in magic~ In a young girl's heart~
Moretsu Pirates - Going to try and pick this back up, but I'm ridiculously behind on it.

Meh:
Nyaruko-san Another Crawling Chaos - It's better than the flash animations, but only just.
Recorder to Randsell Re - It's both not as funny as Nyaruko-san, but also takes so much less time it's kind of a wash.
Ozma - It's only six episodes, but the first one didn't do much for me.

I noticed Urabe's UFO pencil cap. All that seems to scream "alien", or is it just a red-herring? (Further discussion should go to its own thread now.) BTW, are we allowed to make Senjougahara comparisons?

So from what I've seen of the new season...
Fate Zero - Puts everything else on television to shame.
Lupin III - Fujiko chapter - Love the look and I was a fan of Michiko to Hatchin, so I doubt I'll be disappointed here.
Ozma - Speaking of disappointment. I've a lot of respect for Matsumoto Leiji, but this is doing it wrong. A plot we've seen many times before, flat characters, and designs that look refreshingly old-school at first, but go to derp once someone starts moving. I'm not sure how much more of this I can take. It's too bad we'll have to wait another year for Space Battleship Yamato 2199 which is everything Ozma isn't. (Zero gravity in space! Who knew?) Also, Viki needs to get their shit together or they'll be the laughingstock of the internet. I doubt anyone is using it anymore since you can get this on CR.
Sankarea - I like the manga and am mostly optimistic that I'll like the anime.
Sengoku Collection - My Oda Nobunaga Can't Be This Cute Nothing special, it's a formula that's been done a lot recently. But she's not entirely annoying so I'll give it a chance.
Nazo no Kanojo X - Daily Lives of Horny Adolescents. I don't know what's more suggestive, when her skirt flips revealing her underwear, or when her hair flips up revealing her eyes.
ef - a tale of amnesia - Oonuma Shin at it again. The way the first ep unfolded, from Okonogi's perspective then again with Yuuko, was fantastic visual storytelling.
Haiyore! Nyaruko-san - For the amount of effort going into this show, they could have stuck with Flash and saved money with only slightly less animation quality. Typical generic moe character designs that I expect from a Xebec comedy. The music is irritating, too. But it's still got solid writing behind it with Mahiro's sharp-as-a-fork tsukomi. And it's good to see the-crowbar-that-shalt-not-be-named show up in the anime. Asumin is 100% on her game, too.
Recorder to Randsell - First season was subtitled "Do", second season is "Re". OIC.
Shiba Inuko-san - Another 3-minute show based around a single gag. I'm already watching Recorder to Randsell (tough I don't know why) so I'll probably give this one a pass.
Accel World - .Hack//Nerd. The student council president mildly interests me. Three episode test.
Natsuioro Kiseki - I Don't Remember the Name of that Magic We Cast That Day. I'm up in the air on this one. (Pun only half intended.) But there's already a lot of better stuff to watch so I may skip it.
Medaka Box - Contrived plot. Didn't like any of the characters. Not watching unless someone tells me it gets better.
Polar Bear Cafe - It's the only NEET thing to zoo. I kind of dig the punster bartender.

Mirai Nikki is almost finished. And in a somewhat lulzy fashion. Well, they told us from the start that this was a show with "Deus Ex Machina" in it.

The only older show still going on is that piratey girl. And the rewatch of Macross. Even CCS has ended after what seems like forever.

This, in a nutshell, is why I'm not watching bread anime.

Sundome is way too eroi for them to animate and show on TV, IMO. But now that you say that, I should check out Mysterious Girlfriend when I have the time.

Currently trying to finish up some shows from last season, starting (?) others, and maybe just maybe starting to watch some shows this season.

Gunslinger Girl Omnibus 3 (v7 and v8 of the manga) --- Petra arrives! Triela with her hair down!

It's a bit early to tell, but I think adding Petra was a good idea --- she's different from the younger girls (she was sixteen before she was turned into a cyborg), and her handler, Alessandro, is a real contrast to the stiff ex-policemen and military (most of them with issues) of the other handlers.

On the other hand, v6 ended with a fantastic scene with Triela --- you've been seeing her vulnerability (Triela? Vulnerable?) for several chapters. By the end of the book it's obvious enough that even Hilshire picks up on it. Are Franca and Franco really gone? Is Pinocchio?

I like the way the books tell their story, giving us flashback hints here and there. We're into volume seven and only just now learning important things about Jean and Jose.
