What In The World Happened To This Place?

Ok, so I know I haven't been bringing my charming presence around here much in the past few years, but seriously what happened here? Did I miss some mass exodus? I see some of the folks I remember have become mods, but other than that, this place looks like a ghost town. Inquiring minds want to know.

I had this fucking epic paragraph about the past of this place, but I accidentally deleted it. So you, arwael, are going to get the boring version. This place doesn't give two shits about 4chan or what it thinks, and 4chan being filled first with 20 somethings behaving like beligerent bastard children, then being replaced with actual beligerent bastard children, as hass been witnessed in real life they tend to get worse the more you ignore them. Basically all their troll tactics failed here and as such they got zero lols out of it and no fucks were given.

Because, I was just expressing my incredulity that people thought they were a threat to what is basically, a hole in the ground filled with a bunch of anonymous idiots, who at the first sign of trouble can log off and pretend nothing ever happened.
Mind you, I called it the Abyss of the Internet, but since abyss is literally defined as deep chasm, or cavity, such as a hole...

Wow. Today I suddenly remember Megatokyo for the first time in 5 years. I remember I bought myself a PS2, then got into college... I stopped visiting too, but now I'm back, I think.

I'm just dropping in on the forum for the first time in years and kinda wondered the same thing. In a very real sense, "real life" happened for all of us, so now I pop in every few months and read 50 or so comics.

Putting things in perspective, I started following MT when I was a freshman in high school and should finish college this year. So not only was time more plentiful back in the day, but it was a routine.
I'd check up on MT every mo/wed/fri and talk about it with friends, getting all hyped up because everyone was anxious for the Neverwinter Nights release. ( memories!)

Ironically Fred started pursuing MT full-time and dropped the update rate to tue/fri with any luck. Not to bash though, Jack happened in the meantime and now Sarah, the man has his priorities in the right place. And as the facebook timeline shows, he's still working his ass off, but I can't help but feel as if the business that is MT has taken over the comic that is MT.

FWIW, I think the forum-goers came for the comic. Less comics, less people. What's the point in viewing the site three times a week when there are only two updates y'know?

That's not really how the real world works...

He seems to have gotten lax on the fame a webcomic gave him, and not realized that the M/W/F cycle is critical to success. You can't just stop updating for long periods of time, or cut back, as 3 times / week is in itself a _slow_ pace of reading.

As someone who has a (somewhat) famous internet project, one thing I've learned over the years is that if you want to keep people committed then regular (even if somewhat slow) updates are crucial.

People just stop caring after a while, no matter how good your stuff was.
