Anyone else read Nijigahara Holograph? Confusing as hell but also very poignant. I downloaded it after reading Oyasumi Punpun, and an old review on a now-defunct blog convinced me to read it. And re-read it. And it's confusing as fuck. But powerful and entertaining nonetheless. I've been through the manga 3 times already and still I can't figure out the significance of some of the scenes.

I just watched episode nine of Sorakake Girl --- the baseball episode --- and I have to bubble over and tell someone how wonderful it is the second time through. And! A Tsutsuji Baba appears!

Been watching Bamboo Blade DVDs with family, and one thing of great importance has leapt out at me. Someone needs to talk to Funimation about putting unskippable trailers at the beginning of their DVDs. It's just rude.

Since C, Gosick and AnoHana has finished airing, I decided to pig out on the summer season. Started:
  • Blood C
  • KamiMemo
  • Kamisama Dolls
  • Mawaru PenguinDrum (a survival strategy is always useful smile.gif)
  • No. 6
  • Usagi Drop
Continuing:
  • Bleach
  • Naruto Shippuuden (once the fansubbers get their ass in gear again)
  • Hanasaku Iroha
  • Steins;Gate
After taking a peek at Uta no Prince-sama, I decided to look elsewhere. I'm going to give Dantalian no Shoka a try.
Also, went through Gilgamesh in about two weeks. I liked the atmosphere, although a bit heavy on the GrimDark. The character designer must have had a lip fetish...

QUOTE (VRMaster @ Jul 24 2011, 06:20 PM)
That's because you're you.

That may be true enough.

QUOTE
However, if there’s an open mind and an attentive eye, I believe that anyone can see past the gore and violence and see the love story that exists beneath the… for lack of a better term, candy coating.

Leaving aside the grotesque visuals and the murdering and eating of people the guy knows, I'm not sure I could deal with a story where the "best" ending involves either the guy locked up in an insane asylum, never to see the "girl" again as she's left to try to go back to her lovecraftian universe, or the entire world turned into lovecraftian horrors after the "girl" figures out how to reproduce. Those endings don't sound desirable, regardless of the rest of the story. Or I suppose some people might prefer the "everybody dies" ending. No, that's not a spoiler, there's always an ending where everybody dies.

Changing the subject entirely:
QUOTE
I'm going to give Dantalian no Shoka a try.

Go for it. It's been decent so far.

Personally, I think Saya no Uta was rather heartwarming and sweet.

I think I'll drop Kamisama no Memo-chou. Four episodes in and I've realized that I don't really like any of the characters enough to keep watching.

Press the "Title" button to skip Funi's trailers.

I just finished watching Bamboo Blade a little while ago. I liked it a lot, although I'm a sucker for pretty much anything sports-wise in my anime.

I recently started a Haruhi re-watch on BluRay, and it looks pretty good. The first disc had the 6-ep "melancholy" arc and it was really interesting to go back and watch it now that I've read a lot more of the novels. It's kind of odd that you need 'back-story' when you're watching the 'first' arc of series, but with all the time-travel in Haruhi, there are some clever nods that you might not catch the first time.

It's like that in the book too. Most notably the huge nod to Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody in Haruhi's introduction scene once she starts talking to Kyon.

Finished reading Nana to Kaoru, getting on with Utena rewatch... Gah, so much on my plate. Aside from the current shows, I plan to watch/rewatch Memories, Rainbow, Beck, Gankutsuou, Shin Mazinger Z (Because listening to the Giant Robo soundtrack gave me a Yasuhiro Imagawa boner) Moon Phase, Hokuto no Ken or LoGH, and maybe the newest Hellsing OVA.

And for anyone who hasn't bought it yet, deepdiscount is living up to their name. You can get this for $15.

Oh, hey. Amazon is pimping the TokiKake novel, too.

The last chapter makes me think that the main story will be ending soon. Unless Nana fainted and didn't hear what Kaoru said which actually seems more likely.

Higurashi Kira's first OVA has floated to the surface, and it's very silly. The first half consists of bizarre fanservice situations with every female character, and the second half contains the horrifying karmic revenge for the first half tongue.gif

Ah, Higurashi. It's fun never knowing if you're going to be watching a comedy or people getting their fingernails torn out.

edit: Oh, while I'm here-

Dantalian no Shoka
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kira
Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai II
Kamisama Dolls
Kamisama no Memochou
Mawaru Penguindrum
Nichijou
Usagi Drop

This is everything I am currently watching or planning to start, which is a list I just compiled this morning. I am 2 episodes into Dantalian, World Only God Knows II, and Nichijou (fell behind on the latter two) and I just watched the first Higurashi episode.

I haven't started the rest, but if y'all are to be trusted, this is a good list to go with.

I also wanted to start Hanasaku Iroha, but I am lazy.

With Higurashi, you can have both, sometimes in the same episode! ph34r.gif

It was like a psycho-drama and a comedy all in one~

Season 2 >>> Season 1 by the way.

Anyhoo, I was in Kinokuniya in Uwajimaya in Seattle this weekend and caught myself trying to decide between the Durarara!! light novel or the manga. I mean, ok, I've already watched the anime, so I know pretty much what happens more or less, however, after watching Toradora! and then reading the light novel, I saw there were a few differences that really made the light novel stand out.

I suppose what I'm asking is if it is worth buying the light novel if I've already seen the anime :/

So, I picked up the "Future Gadget Laboratory Welcome Basket" which really was just a collection of uninteresting and semi-interesting Steins;Gate stuff like wallpapers and screensavers and random bric-a-brac. Altogether not particularly interesting until you come to the music- or rather the bonus content. for each character album, there's a mini-game that you can play, which is a fun way to kill a few quick minutes. I recommend Makise Kurisu's puzzle game, as well as Ruka's Omikuji, myself. The Divergence Meter screensaver is amusing, as the "divergence meter" is actually a clock/ calendar, but is otherwise uninteresting.

Speaking of Steins;Gate the RSS downloader on utorrent has just provided me with episode #17. BRB, Dr Pepper.

And somehow I left the third season of Natsume Yuujinchou off my list. Still one of my favorite series, despite how slooooooow it is. The only thing I'm missing is some of the characters from the earlier seasons, who I hope will reappear later on in this season.
