You seem to have the opposite problem with Malware that everyone else does. Consider yourself lucky.
But seriously, are there any new processes/services/crazy things running? Make sure there is nothing but the basics on your startup. win+r msconfig turn off all services that aren't Microsoft turn off all startup programs that you either 1 don't know what it is 2 don't use it anyway if you're having this problem after all that then you may want to consider running some in depth scans to check for malware/viruses/nasty things in general. |

Did you shut down your computer when you closed it? What's your computer set to do when you close the lid? What error is appearing when you try to open Firefox? Have you run chkdsk?

It goes into standby, and no I put it in standby by closing it. The error is identical for both IE and FF. And no I haven't, right click the hard drive in my computer right?

chkdsk runs on startup, you would need to restart your computer, get ready to twiddle your thumbs for a while if you have a big drive.

In XP you can right click on the drive and select "Tools" and select "Error Checking." I'm not sure what the commands are in Vista but it should be similar. And this goes without saying but make sure you select error checking and not formatting. Again, what is the error you get? Is there text associated with it? I don't know if it actually matters but I always either hibernate or shutdown before I close my laptop lid and move it. Hibernate suspends to disk, so it doesn't use power and everything shuts off...AFAIK standby suspends to RAM, and a small amount of power is still being used (so the RAM doesn't clear). I would suggest you try checking your disk for errors, if it finds any that are fixable it will take care of them...I don't know if this is directly related to your problems with Firefox and IE, but it's somewhere to start. Yeah, same thing. All that does is flag the drive to be checked on start-up. You can't really do it while you have the drive in use...os loaded up and whatnot... |
