Well, if you are superior, it's not an illusion.
I didn't say he didn't have an illusion of superiority. (If that's true or not is immaterial.) I basically said his ego isn't fragile, and whatever it is he's doing isn't masking that. Not that he isn't doing whatever he's doing. You can't say he masks something if there's nothing to mask. I should have been clearer. Largo doesn't have a frail ego, so there's nothing to mask, illusion of superiority or not. Which is probably not. Overall, I think there's enough evidence to debunk the claim that Largo has the illusion of superiority. Not that he doesn't overestimate his talents or underestimate the talents of his adversary at times, or have an odd way about asking for relationship advice (texting about teh awkward for example), or even whatever you call the going clubbing with Erika etc. Building computers (aka going on a date or whatever you want to call it). Accepting a reminder. Creating a diversion. Yeah, rather peculiar ways to do things sometimes. Then there's explaining things without going into detail, and ignoring the non-sequiters. Here, he difuses Miho's prodding by countering it and her attempt to bring in something he didn't say. (It wasn't about Erika's pursuit of l33t knowledge or his disrespecting her or not, it was about how the kids should act. Probably meaningless and not much of a distinction, but whatever.) Largo FTW And that doesn't seem to any more show that Miho has either a fragile ego or an illusion of superiority either. Yeah, sure, she's trying to deal with new unfamiliar things too . But like Largo (two very similar people) there's plenty of evidence that she knows what she's doing. Not that they're infallible or unbeatable. Because we've seen both. Might their egotism, self-confidence, extroversion and bluster make it seem as though they're under the impression they're perfect? Obviously yes. To some. |
