Hmm... I hadn't done much with the rogue skill tree, since it seemed unsuitable for my dual-pistol vanquisher, but now I'm wondering if I could use it to make a workable melee vanquisher. I may have to check this out.

After examining the skills and experimenting with hamstring, the level 25 melee attack, I've concluded that it's probably not workable, or at least not easily. The attacks LOOK cool, no doubt about that. Major points on presentation. But they don't scale with weapon damage. The only way to get a lot of damage out of them is to pump a lot of points in, and I'm really not sure that will be enough to keep up as you go up in level.

I really like hamstring. It looks seriously cool, and it would be great for fast movement too. But an explosive shot or two could kill just as many enemies for a fraction of the mana cost, and that's only going to get worse as enemies get tougher. Explosive shot scales to my normal DPS, and hamstring doesn't. And that's just going to kill it, in the long run.

Has anyone come across a named creep called "Face Reaper" yet? I lol'd hard, no way that's an accident.

Currently playing an Alchy on Med and started a Destroyer on Hard because the alchy was ridiculously easy. I'm at level 15 rolling a wand with a 24 point health steal and a 9 point mana steal and my poison damage is jacked up to about +25%

I've got the golem, +crit and Ember Lance skills. Ember Lance is simply destroying everything, as soon as I run out of mana I either scoff one of the overly plentiful potions or spam my wand. Going to roleplay his with all fire spells I think, up the difficulty a little.

Ok so far for me;

Pros: Gem system, Pet, Level design
Cons: Not enough customization in skills, not enough control of the direction your items take.

Honestly I'm at level 15 and I don't see the gameplay changing much at all for the rest of the game, hopefully I'm wrong though.

Alchemist has been pretty hard for me, but I focused heavily on all summon skills since I like having an army~

My alchemist in action :V

I ended up doing that a lot near the 'end' but didn't find it too repetitive. It was challenging since a few hits usually sufficed in killing me. sad.gif

Try Ember Lance, it's amazing.

I've stacked some fire damage and I feel like the goddamn death star, it just tears through anything.

Any way, which mod do you use for respecing? And do you know of any that can change the difficulty of an existing game?

Try some of the spells in the offensive tree, just for the debuffs they provide. Iceshock is amazing in keeping enemies in your critter army and away from you, the same with Ember Lightning or a ranged weapon with some knock back. Also if your zombie/skeleton summons are of a decent rank(V-VI-ish near the end) consider a few points in charm mastery as well. does a lot of difference if your zombies are your source of in battle health.

My build is a huge critter army(with only passive buffs), with me as an active debuffer who runs away a lot with ember phase~

Uhm, I just googled for respec mod and found one. Far as I know there's only one that creates respec potions in the store. Haven't explored the mod scene much so I don't know about changing existing difficulty either.

Hm, I think I'll respec for ice shock. How does Charm work? I kind of assumed I needed a spell or something... but now that I think of it (ignored it before) I guess I just need points in order to have a % to charm them eh? edit: nevermind I just figured out how it actually works. XD Had to google.

Interesting. ohmy.gif

It's not all that clear from the in game text, and I found about it after reading about it on the torchlight forums. But the three XYZ Spell Mastery(all tier 3 in the skill tree for all classes) skills ranks up your spells, and Charm Spell Mastery is what powers up your summon spells and any other spell with the same border colour. Offensive is red, defensive is blue and charm is green. Oddly the spell named "Charm" has a blue border(defensive), but I don't know if that is a graphical bug or if it indeed is a defensive spell.

Currently I have an armour that provides 1% chance of auto charming enemies, so I haven't spent any money on the spell itself. Getting allies while smacking them on the head is neat tho~

Also don't pick ice for damage, I've been dealing measly 1 damage with it for a while now(Pyre and lightning are my damage dealers). It has a very high freeze chance however, so only spend points for the sexy freeze percentage(I stopped at rank 3). [edit]Keep in mind that frozen enemies have a relatively high chase of shattering, so it's a bit harder to field gremlins with it.

You can change difficulty with a console command as detailed here. Keep in mind if you change difficulty while playing Hardcore, you get labeled as a cheater. Since that is cheating.

Just a couple of things from earlier in this thread:

You can heal/remana your pet by shift-rightclicking on appropriate potions.

The Spells/Fish etc area of your shared (or your own) stash isn't actually part of the stash at all - that's just your pet's inventory.

You don't have to turn off your computer to save your item from an enchantment critical miss roll - just Alt-F4.

The Map Scrolls (1-10,11-20, etc) generate random level-appropriate dungeons.

I have a level 21 Hard-Hardcore Vanquisher that's been a fair amount of fun. The game's a real keeper, I can see it tiding me over until D3.

Yeah. By the time I got hail of arrows, explosive shot was doing more damage, and had the advantage of knocking enemies away from me. HoA depends on the enemies nicely staying put in one place for full effect, and almost none of them do.

hey my HoA works just fine. probably bcoz the skill level is 6.

my tips: let the enemies come to u surround u,then use the HoA. they die fast and hard! haha! i loved it when more than 10 goblins died. emot-kamina.gif

I rolled an Alch because I was tipped off that it had mechs... The mechgolem is awesome.

There are two types, though. Will I be able to summon one of each, or only one golem at a time?

Well, found out you can have both at the same time. Stuff's pretty tough, melee golem managed to tank the final boss and then some.

I found the Meteor-like spell to be awesome, because it lands a lot faster than the original Meteor.

Maybe I should play a melee Alchemist on a higher difficulty setting, to test its viability.

May as well play a Destroyer. You'll have much more fun. Melee Vanquisher and Alchemist are somewhat unrealized as of now with Alchemist worse off than Vanquisher melee. Though this game is all about trying out different builds and beating up monsters, so your call.

Melee Alch is the very definition of a glass cannon tho. But if you like the frailty of a little girl, but the punch of a bear, go ahead happy.gif
