The 26 episode run is pure speculation. That rumor was debunked back when the rerun first starting airing. I'm still assuming this is the one new episode they're airing to hype up season two airing in fall/winter.

>It doesn't hurt that Mikuru is probably better and cuter in this episode than in the whole rest of the series up until now.

Even Kyon realizes this himself!

I liked the subtle changes in Yuki (most prominently, removing her glasses) after she "synchronized" with herself in Kyon & Mikuru's appropriate time.

QUOTE (Lightice @ May 22 2009, 09:13 AM)
Last time they gave up chronological order in favour of dramatic license in order to get the climax at the end of the show, but I don't see a how it would serve either drama or the plot to have this particular episode out first, except to announce that a new season has indeed started.

This episode fits there chronologically.
It goes:
"The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi" (Episodes 1-6)
"The Boredom of Suzumiya Haruhi" (Baseball, 7th)
"Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody" (This episode)
"Mysterique Sign" (8th by the old chronology)
"Lone Island Syndrome" (9 and 10)
"Endless Eight" (Would be new)
"The Sighs of Suzumiya Haruhi" (The story about the production of episode 11)
"Asahina Mikuru's Adventure Episode 00" (Either the 11th or first episode)
"Live A Live" (CONCERT)
"The Day of Sagittarius" (13th)
"Someday in the Rain" (14th)
"The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi"

The trouble I have predicting from there though, is that The Disappearance leaves a couple plot ends untied that do get resolved later, so I'm not sure how far they'll actually go. Plus, I can only guess at about 9-ish episodes of stuff from that, so some post-Disappearance stories would need to go in there.

Edit: A little more poking around suggests that they might do The Intrigues of Suzumiya Haruhi if they want to resolve that stuff. But that book is really long. emot-iiam.gif

I'm well aware of what the chronology is. I wondered how it fits in that this episode is shown first, if episodes of the first season will be shown side by side with these, and what dramatic purpose it would serve apart from being the first new episode shown.

Just for note, another rumor came after that.

Well, considering the first season was 14 episodes, who says this season will be normal?

So fine....i have rejoined the ranks of the Haruhists and am completely pleased with this episode. Its pretty LOL that loli Haruhi had the same personality as 3 years later. laugh.gif

Not really important, but when Mikuru and Kyon returned to 3 years later, why would Mikuru's digital watch show the correct time when they have been in "stasis" for 3 years? Her watch should just show the time they got frozen.

What are you even talking about then? This episode is shown first because of the new stuff, it's the first chronologically, and they're broadcasting the whole thing chronologically. Obviously episodes of the first season will be shown side by side with these, because they've already done that for the past seven episodes.

Also, without this episode, most of the later events don't make sense, with the exception of those stories they already animated.

I'll go with her watch connects to the Internet or something to get the time, and would automatically update the second she came out of it.

Watches that synchronize with time servers have been around for many years, so there's nothing odd about it.

You forgot another possible, albeit less likely, option.

SHE'S A TIME TRAVELER
SHE SHOULD HAVE A WATCH THAT TELLS THE TIME AROUND ITSELF

But yeah, lolinternet. Or even radio.

I doubt Mikuru was allowed to bring obvious future technology with her. A hidden time travel device is one thing, a watch anyone could see is another. :v

I watched half of the ep so far. Will finish when I dl a new file, one without a corrupted video track. dry.gif .mkvs are great when they actually work, but half the time there are little bumps where the animation freezes, and with hardcoded subs it makes it almost unwatchable.

Haruhi being halfway over the fence adds the additional bit of absurdity that really makes the scene work well. When I read the novel I pictured her just standing there. Not much else to say, glad to see Haruhi is back, sort of.

So long as it looks like an ordinary watch, I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Anyone else who looks at it would just see it telling the correct time. In fact, it would be MORE useful to a time traveler than a regular watch, because they wouldn't have to reset it every time they travel in order to avoid someone noticing an incorrect time on it.

That was handled quite nicely - she wore her watch on the inside of her wrist, so we never saw the dial. Honestly, I didn't notice if she had a watch before she checked it after the de-freeze.

It's riot that I was just reading the novelization I got with the AGP loot - thanks again, unknown contributors - and Haruhi's random 'haven't we met before?' question was quite fresh in my mind. Lolz that they actually had met, three years before.

Were Yuki's lips moving signify the data freeze command, or did she just mouth something meant only for Kyon?

Yes.

One other little matter. If Kyon gave Haruhi the idea to go to North High, why was Yuki already wearing a North High uniform?

The Data Overmind lives outside time. They already know where Haruhi would end up in that particular timeline.

Yes.

Although the other bit is certainly possible too, given the pieces of lolplot that haven't happened yet. Assuming it happens in time, I've got to give her another run at the AGP.

Really? How? Through wifi? And even so does the watch just connect automatically with every AP it can find to sync with the timeserver?

Apparently L-E translated that the watch was an Atomic watch, not sure if that makes a diff.

No, it's just a regular radio signal. Notice she said it was an "atomic watch", those are watches that synchronize with radio signals put out by places with atomic clocks (observatories, universities, militaries). You can buy them today, btw. They've been around since the 90's at least, I forget when exactly SHnY takes place. Mikuru probably just bought one after coming to this time.

The actual "atomic clocks" are too large to put in a watch(at least with today's technology), they're fridge-sized and kept at places that require very precise time measurements.

For those who are interested, the current leaked episode list. According to it the total (including first season) is gonna be 28, not 26.

As for those who wonder how the fact it's a whole new season is known in the first place, there have been quite a few leaks during the last few months, thanks to TV stations not realizing the new season was to be kept under wraps. Some amount of doubt could be cast on the leaks, but only until Bamboo leaf rhapsody aired accordingly.
