Fanworks Contest: Trip to the Beach

RULES
  • Have fun
  • Short fanfics, art, rescripts and poems are allowed
  • Try to only post one entry per day
  • Has to (remotely) relate to the topic
  • fuck it... can't think of any other rules

~*~

I've had this idea for years, and less than a year ago I brought up it up on the forum, to have an art contest. I seems like it'd be fun, right? darrin PMed me and he mentioned he had had the same idea. Sadly I went on a break from the forums around that time and didn't get back to him. BUT I'm here now, and with alunde sending me an awesome first topic, how could I not try this out?

Pretty much this is just for fun. If you guys really want we can declare a King/Queen of each thread, but the main objective is just fun and silliness. I'll probably post my own contribution later on today or tomorrow.

Love you all and hope this is something you guys will like <3

Hee hee, you remember that. wub.gif Still the sweetest mod of all.

I love and support the idea, but can't really take credit for having the "same" idea. Mine involved an additional layer of complexity / stupidity that WyndhamHeart's probably doesn't need, and that I think I've mentioned in SDFW posts at least once or twice. I'll throw it out one last time just in case...

Basically the idea is that in addition to individual entries, you could have teams of fan-workers collaborating on a group project. And by "fan-workers" I do mean not necessarily the same "type"; if a couple of fan-artists wanted to work together on drawing and coloring something big, or if two or three rescripters wanted to cook something up for a given set of strips (kind of a mini-round-robin), that would be great. But if you had a couple of artists draing and coloring something, with dialogue supplied by a rescripter or two, that could have potential for even greater hijinks / aw3some / whathaveyou.

I mean I for one can honestly say there's nobody here I wouldn't want to work with on something like that... (waits for laughter to die down) Ok, ok, I know that's one-way, and nobody would actually want to work with me. tongue.gif I'm saying if there is someone (or group of ones) you'd like to try something crazy with (er, fanworks-related that is blink.gif), this might be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

Enough rambling. As befits my status as a worthless has-been ("were you ever popular? huh.gif then how can you be a has-been?"), I submit this, which at least mentioned a trip to the beach. I expect to see that and related strips a lot (hopefully I can come up with something myself...), there aren't that many MT scenes involving swimwear (unfortunately)...

Kimiko's thigh needs work, but that's by far the biggest issue. Other than that...

@ Zippo - PARTAY!! Start the bonfire; I'll bring the oysters and corn on the cob! Yeehah!!

Screw the thigh and the WIP-crap! That's a damn good drawing and really captures the summertime atmosphere!! Yea!

Rudbeck (just here for the sunscreen...)

Oh, and a quick comment on the background since you mentioned it: place an horizon line just above Erika's head and redo the wavelets so they get smaller 'n' smaller real fast - y'know, perspective? [/quibble] But, you need to know I still like the drawing a lot! biggrin.gif

@mistersaxon: Good catch on that Erika error! [snerk!]

Ya - back of thigh is straight, front of calf, as a generalisation. Trim off the curve and you've got it!

When I was able to look at the rest of the picture I decided Erika was wearing too many clothes the picnic basket perspective is all wrong but it's still a lively, fun, classy drawing.

So, basically, Zippo - you rock!

Wow Zippo.... *riases eyebrow over glasses and watches*

Just a suggestion for Kimiko though, beyond mistersaxon's (which is right), remember Kimiko was a runner at one point. So go long lean muscle, rather than Erika's almost Amazon warrior-queen look....

since it's 'crit Zippo's awesome drawing' day, um...
yeah, I got nothing.
It's awesome Zippo!

edit: ooh oooh! I remember! I wanted to say that right now it looks like Kimiko/Erika's thighs are the same size as their waists. Now, I'm not anywhere near petite, but I have a hunch that isn't quite right even in skinny-ville tongue.gif

Alright, since it's an anything goes as far as what art is represented, allow me to attempt some things.

Haiku:

Sad girl in sea foam
Looks out at the rolling wave
This is not her dream

Irish Haiku

Said Largo, "There's sand in your suit,
The static might damage your root."
He attempted to dust
The sand from her bust
And Erika gave him the boot.

Sonnet.

A gothy girl, pale skinned did stride,
Upon the sand of sun lit beach.
Machine made girl paced along side,
And to the other's hand did reach.

"It seems to me a lonely place,"
Said goth, as she did slide away,
"And yours is but a sand made face,
A game alone, for boys to play."

"But I am real, quite real enough,"
Said doll, upon that sunlit sand
"The beach, they say, is romance stuff,
And I would take you by the hand."

The goth and doll did then embrace,
And walked together in that place.

And finally, Alliteration!

Piro paced pensively by the placid Pacific. "Perhaps I'm pathetic, he pondered. "Precisely," the Pilot whale posited.

laugh.gif Nice Sareth! Now, why didn't I know you were a poet?

Thanks for the crits, all. Will try to get something better up! I find when I do more complicated pictures like that one with more than one person and (gag) perspective, I get confused and lost about half way through, and don't even know what needs fixing anymore. You've helped me narrow it down!

@Sareth: You certainly made me think of this:

QUOTE

The sea was wet as wet could be,
The sands were dry as dry.
You could not see a cloud, because
No cloud was in the sky:
No birds were flying overhead--
There were no birds to fly.

Both? I frankly don't like scout uniforms...

@Sareth: Good poetry, I particularly like the Irish haiku and the sonnet! Sweet!

I may give a shot at writing a vignette or a double drabble if I can scrape up the time... This is fun!

@Zippo: Besides wonky perspective on the basket (which is still pretty ok BTW) and watching the proportions on Kimiko and Erika, I think it rocks! Good job! Looking forward to non-WIP version!

Still WIP, but hopefully better. Thought I'd get opinions before adding more detail/shading. Makes it easier to erase.

Me, and the picnic basket... we're having issues. I told it, that it better get itself together before the finished version, or Kimiko would end up toting a pile of towels. It LAUGHED at me. sad.gif

I never ever was a Girl Scout, actually. I was a Girl Guide... we had dresses. Blue ones. It was lame, so I joined Air Cadets instead. THAT was fun. AND no dresses!

nice WIP Zippo, Kimi's thighs look like a runners thighs now (lean and slender, but strong)

I didn't want to say anything (since not being female) I never had to deal with scouts (unless it was for their cookies (major weakness)), I wasn't in boy scouts, so I have no say so in uniforms

*imagines Zippo and Amastre in a school-girl outfits* (waits for punishment)

*joins Ravenbrook in the school uniform thing, also waits to die.*

Zippo: Much improved! Now my chief comment is that the fingers are a touch big. Makes them look like skinny girls with fat hands. But considering how hard hands are to do... God I hate drawing hands...

But they are DEFINITELY smexy... Mmmmmmhmmmmmm. Very.

And believe it or not, I was a card carrying girl scout for two years. I worked as a cook at a girl scout camp. But in order to work there, you had to belong to the girl scouts. MAN was I an ugly brownie...

No-one's ever coloured my stuff before! That would be cool! I'd love to see it.

Sareth, Ravensbrook... school-girl? Really? I'd feel ridiculous.

Oh, yeah, as to hands... A pox upon them! But, while fixing other problems, i realized Kimiko had one too many fingers in the original. Fat hands... probably an improvement! laugh.gif

I must say, I love your picture Zippo <33

My critic may be invalid because the human body is playing tricks on me q_q
I *think* Kimiko's are Erika's waists are to low.

~On my own body my waist is well above my belly button and just below my bottom rib
~While looking on google for an example I've come across many women whose waists are even with there belly buttons like you have in your picture..

Any body experts wanna sort this out for me? :x

*sneaks behind Ravensbrook, clobbering him with a hammer pulled from Hammerspace*

That's for the school uniform comments... Although I probably would look hot in a fuku... Hmm...

*twirls hammer* Sareth, I'll give you a chance to take back your statement before I clobber you too...

You guys ask for it, you know?

@Zippo: It's definitely looking better now! Question about the picnic basket of doom, are you trying to do the perspective by eye? Or are you using a ruler and the whole monotony of using vanishing points and the like? (I think I know the answer, but I'd still like to know...)
