B-B-But the Hamster scenes were so charming! *growl* Woah, where did my sudden craving for sweets come from?

I kinda miss the Butler Network, too.

I always looked at the anime and the manga as their own separate entities, both with their good points. This anime is a pretty straight adaptation of the manga so far, which (since I enjoy the manga a lot) I appreciate.

It's nice to see things animated that weren't before. It's certainly different from the first season, but I wouldn't call it better or worse.

I don't even see that happening this season unless they wrangle another 52 episodes. Considering this is now a late-night program, I don't know how likely that is.

Though Bones did just do it with Soul Eater (admittedly, I believe they aired two versions, one during the day), so I suppose it's not out of the question. Either way, the Valentine's Day arc and the subsequent events are more than enough to get to 26 episodes. Athena's, what, fifty chapters ahead of that? More?

Well it's honestly the only thing I like about the series now, even when I admittedly really enjoyed the first season. I guess giving Hayate an actual origin / backstory / depth just means alot more to me then shoving otaku in jokes into a 22 minute timeslot.

I don't get how you can say straight adaptation. The first two episodes were pretty poor, messed up the jokes that where great in the manga. Third episode only worked because they added new jokes that were pretty spot on --- like the F/SN Archer one.

I'm glad that manga material is being adapted, because it is good material (especially the upcoming Valentines day arc), though you'd think they'd do a better job with it.

You're just mad because you don't get any of the jokes.

Also, "a lot" is two words.

I'd rather have that then "hey we are J.C. Staff and we know what sells so we'll give Hina her own ending video".

This, since the focus on Hina might put me off. She's an alright character, but I don't want it to be at the expense of everyone else. Even with Hamster's eating scenes in every episode (I didn't have a problem with that myself), she didn't really have a major presence in the first season save for a couple of episodes. I'm worrying that might happen with Hina. But it's only been four episodes so far, so what have you. tongue.gif

Well Hina is pretty much the main heroine in the next few arcs, so we shall hear what you have to say once we're in the middle of that. tongue.gif

Can't see wah being happy about that.

I've read the manga, so I know this as well. I just hope they don't force it, since that's what I worry about more so than anything else. tongue.gif

I liked Nagi's "it must be a product of item mixing or demon fusion" comment. I do kind of miss the completely out of nowhere refs from last season, but Hayate by way of School Rumble is not a bad bet in my opinion.

As the leading Ayumu shipper here... I agree with you.

Yes. I loved that one scene. But the build-up to it sucked. Takahashi doesn't sound as adorable as she did in the first season.

It's like the personalities of the girls are confused. It's like Nagi is constantly nervous and Ayumu is the one overthinking everything. Meanwhile Hinagiku and Maria seem to have switched places.

Kinda fail when the best character so far is the ghost...

Yeah it's silly. That started last week with Hamster and Hina not knowing each other, i mean yeah it's like that in the manga, though they were on holiday together in the first season. tongue.gif

I'm pretty sure it happened in the first episode when Clause was like "wow you've been the Sanzenin butler for a month" when in S1 at least a year had passed.

I can't blame them for it. It's not something they could throw a band-aid on. The first season diverged way too much, and the timeline wouldn't work, with Hinagiku's birthday being an important event coming up. I mean, I don't like it, but I don't really know how they could reconcile it. It was really their only option. And, yes, they made it clear in the very first episode.

The OVA -- much like the last episode of the first season -- jumped forward quite a ways (as evidenced by Sonia's appearance and the fact that it was summer, not February).

I'd like to think the world of Hayate no Gotoku is similar to that of the Big O--everyone is a tomato and life's all a grand stage play, one that repeats itself forever and ever.

Best episode so far of the second season. Want to know why i say that? Simple. Nagi. Nagi. Nagi. I loved these two chapters in the manga.

The ED felt so out of place this week. More so then the last four episodes.

I'm loving all the Hinagiku appearances especially episode six. I LOL'ed at Nagi's "What's that pocket change doing on the table" line.

It still feels a bit off as an adaptation. Ah well, Hina's awesome Mother makes up for it, and Maria of course.

Congratulations, JC Staff. You finally put together 24 minutes of anime devoid of suck. And Hayate season 1 DVDs must have sold pretty well if they can now afford to license that song. Animation was pretty hot too.

But Nagi wins the birthday arc. The rule for season 2 is that the amount of fail in an episode is inversely proportional to the number of of lines Nagi gets.

However, I can't help but feel that we're being deprived of epic Wakamoto. Are the uncensored explicit references to classic anime really worth not getting to hear Wakamoto explain why an implied reference to a classic anime is being censored? Also, I don't thing they've tried to use the G-word in this season.

Heh. Well they'd have to try pretty hard to screw up this episode, or the upcoming one to wrap up the arc. It's some of the best stuff in the manga to date, so...yeah.

Personally, I haven't been quite as disappointed by the second season, mostly because it's provided me exactly what I expected it to...that is, animated versions of some of the missed scenes the first series cut out. It's not as good as the first season, but it has been a faithful adaptation. The issue stems from the fact that, in several respects, the first anime improved upon the manga in terms of comedy.

Where it didn't, JC Staff has taken the liberty of taking out the censors and bleeps from Synergy SP's take, but replacing the latter with just generically replacing some of the anime references from the manga. The scene where Nagi is explaining how she raised Tama comes to mind, with the manga overtly mentioning most of the series (censoring others) and the anime just making up titles that sort of sound like them.

As for the cover of Cruel Angel's Thesis, it was expected to be maintained if only because they already made it for the Character Cover CD they released a few months back. Though JC Staff nailed the animation, having Hinagiku imitate some parts of the Evangelion OP for her performance.

Still, best episode of the series to date. Though that should be quickly usurped next week.

Best episode was episode 5 dude.

The rest is fine, I guess. Not really setting my soul on fire. Needs more random Gundam jokes.

The second season has been solid, although I almost get the impression that the team is bored. With adaptations, I think some leeway is essential to keep the makers motivated, especially when we're dealing with creative staff who're accustomed to that kind of freedom.

OTOH, this is safe and serviceable. Yoshiaki Iwasaki tends to get hammered for adaptation liberties (unlike Hayate 2, his adaptations are normally very energetic, but they're fluffy and "dumbed down" when compared to the source), so it's probably a better fit for the target audience.
