[filk] Obituary

So I was trying to think of a way to take the shock and awe, and, well, pour lemon juice on the wound.

Miho got blown away by the Killballs
Walking home from Kimiko's rally.
You can say that Sony's not that well armed,
But as for me and Ping-chan, we believe.

She'd been watchin' stuff from backstage,
And we'd begged her not to go.
But she felt out of character,
So she went off on her own into the snow.

When they found her the next mornin',
At the scene of the attack.
All her ribbons had come undone,
But at least no zombies used her for a snack.

Now we're all so proud of Ping-chan,
She's been copin' best she can.

Though I guess that's not so different,
But the DJ's throwing down some mournful tracks.

A laudable goal, and well-played. The tune is "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer," right? A few lines were a bit awkward, but I haven't laughed this hard for a filk in a long time, so I'll forgive you.

Christmas song already, Ray? and it's two months 'til July.
'Grandma got run over by a reindeer' has never been one of my favorites, but it's well-played as was already said.

Me, well, I'm trying to put together a little filk of my own. So far I have a long ways to go filkwise.

I figure this is as much an appropriate place to put this and it's along the same idea. Inspired somewhat from Ray's filk and the wailing over Miho in the MDT. If the mods want to split it to it's own thread I have no problem with that.

Ray's too cheerful, she can't be dead. After all, out of all the people on the forums he would be the one most likely to know (I'm kinda grasping at straws here)

It's appropriate, but unfortunately you may as well have just posted the original lyrics. I appreciate the effort, though.

As has been said in other filk threads, it's best to choose a song not too close to what you're writing about. For example, what song can we see Ed almost certainly not singing? How about "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (which I'm also shocked to see has never been filked before)? The tone is actually dangerously close to what most people would think of for this scene, which is why I thought of it originally, but with Ed singing it, even the lines that stay the same take on a sinister tone.

I was having a heck of a time trying to get anything to work with it that didn't throw the meter and stanzas off, so kept it closer to the original stuff in the end. bleh

Yes, well, the almost savage glee of the song in juxtaposition to how the death of a grandmother would make a family feel is pretty much exactly what I wanted to torture the SD crowd with. 'Twas a bit of inspired nonsense. So, out of season be dammed!

Brief explanation. For those not familiar with it, there is an RPG in the RPG forum based around MegaTokyo. In it, several factions exist, each looking to the mains of the comic as their idols. You got Piroists, Pingites, Erikaists... The biggest two factions are the Largoists (Followers of Great Teacher Largo) and the Mihoists (Legion of the Dark Goddess). Here's Mihoist Saeko expressing her opinion on the debate about Miho's current state...

I liked it. It's not bad for a first effort, though perhaps you used too much of the source material. Again, though, one of the trickiest parts about filking is to find a song that's appropriate, but not so close to what you want to write that the filk is redundant.

IIRC, "Daniel" appeared on the album Dont Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player. One of my personal favorite album titles, despite being rather unwieldy.
