Not that I don't love quality, but one would think that the exponential increase in animation quality over the last 5 years probably isn't cheap. Why keep breaking the bank on accelerating new animation techniques, if it's making you bankrupt? =\

Geneon Entertainment is closing down its Geneon Spot Fan Club, but, in a message to the members of the club, Geneon President & CEO Eiji Orii revealed continued efforts to at least finish the company's current series by noting: "At this time, we are internally discussing plans to explore all available options to continue distribution of Geneon titles, both old and new, at a later date.  However nothing is certain at this time.  We will release more information to the public once we have any concrete plans, if any."

Tiny bits of hope for some of the orphaned series, at least.

Good news, cont.

My upcoming subtitling projects are going well so far. Can't share a whole lot of details, but I've been explicitly authorized to say that (a) they are the first two seasons of Nanoha, and the first season of Zero no Tsukaima, and (cool.gif yes, despite the recent news about Geneon, they're really being worked on and really haven't been canceled. You may commence rejoicing.
This is (I think), "our" Avatar.

(There's a period at the end of the URL for Avatar's blog. It really belongs there, but the forum software won't let me put it there --- it keeps moving it outside the URL tag.)

Slightly modified repost from the Nanoha thread:

Now our annoyances are put to rest and we'll see our Nanoha DVDs soon enough. I wonder if another distributor is releasing them or if Geneon is going to be resurrected under a new name/ownership. It's kinda ambigious when you take both news bits into account.

Maybe this good news for those Higurashi fans and the like?

Maybe. I'm somewhat dubious as to the prospects of Saiunkoku Monogatari, however. I did pick up Zipang out of this --- I was intending to Netflix it at some point, but Netflix is too prone to letting anime go out of print.

(I think) I've heard that Black Lagoon second barrage is going to get finished, too.

I thought Saiunkoku is going to be like, the next Kyo Kara Maoh, which was a sustainable title.

Yeah, somehow I feel Saiunkoku if anything is a prospective drop if they need to cut back on something ;_;

I just might start picking the series up now immidiately if there'd be some confirmation they'd be in the buisness to actually finish it up instead of waiting for a later boxset release as I originally planned :/

I started picking up Saiunkoku (and made the mistake of deleting my unwatched fansubs). I suppose my pending orders for that and Higurashi might breathe some life into future licenses of those series, but I doubt it....

QUOTE (dm @ Oct 3 2007, 10:55 PM)
Navarre reports that Funimation is making profits for them.  I suspect the anime companies associated with TV channels are all doing passably.

Having said that, ADV is "restructuring": http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2007-...ifts-priorities

They're laying off some people and hiring others --- a shift in emphasis. I wonder if this might include ripples from the soured deal with Geneon. ADV employs about 100 people worldwide (not counting temporary staff).

Funimation has also had lay-offs in the past year (10% of their staff in July).

So I guess PixieBell (or Crack, I've forgotten who said it) was right in saying that all American anime companies are hurting --- even the ones with TV channels to hawk their wares.

ADV should study Funimation's trailers. For some reason, ADV trailers tend to make me less inclined to watch a series, while Funi's trailer persuaded me to watch a dog like Burst Angels (it was Spring, and there were breasts).

Megs or ....?

Burst Angel is not a terrible show mad.gif But I actually agree with your general idea--ADV's trailers are not really inspiring.
