When digital anime distribution was in its stone ages, we had to deal with crappy real media, vivo, or mpeg 1 files where things are in NTSC resolution (if that) and blocky as hell.

Now we finally have an anime that heavily relies on blocking artifacts as a digital effect within the show. If Serial Experiments Lain was static noise cratering in our anime landscape a world of the metaverse, then Denno Coil is kids playing hide and seek within it.

Complete with a true-to-life tamagochi, except it's the nth incarnation of Sachel Pooch.

Well, Densuke is also the name of Hibari's Patapi... COINCIDENCE?!

Here is Densuke in his full glory, casting cower on himself to avoid aggro from netherworldly monster.</wow joke>
user posted image

It makes me want to crack Hiro Protagonist jokes about 2-d metaverse hacking, but as a pet retrieval service instead of a pizza deliveryperson.

As far as art and color and direction goes, well, it's very soft but the color palette is very ... grey. goes well with the whole "LOL we see the intarwebs" theme.

The last shot is in a flashback scene when our heroine first received her magic "LOL I see teh intarwebs" kit. Compare and contrast. Note the books.

The more crass elements. See: loli.

user posted image

And more young girls than you can shake a broom at. The one on the right has a doreamon bag complete with doreamon-esque gags. Neat eh?

user posted image

But there's something special to see oekaki-style HUD reflected into the air, Nadesico style.

user posted image

I dunno, there's a special charm to this show that i can't quite describe. I dislike the main character somewhat so far, and find her somewhat bratty but counterbalancing younger sister work a lot better. But Densuke is by far the best thing in episode 1.

I hope they keep him around for the rest of the series.

If you like it so much, why don't you go sub it!

This does look like a really neat concept, and I hope it turns out to be good, so I can have a second show for this season.

commencing part 8 of the "what Omo is watching this season" thread. i've been looking forward to this show more than any other this season. i haven't seen it yet except for any/all trailers so i can't say to much right now. it looks to have a Ghibli kind of style, not so much in the art as in the innocent world it takes place in and such. i love this kind of imaginative zaniness. i'm trying to find another show to compare it to, but all i can come up with right now is Kamichu and that doesn't quite cover it.

Didn't one of the stories in the Animatrix, Beyond, use that effect? It also had pet finding as a theme as well.

I like the art style in the caps, though.

I like how the first episode just throws everything at you, as if you're apart of this world --- together with Tsuneyoshi Saito's fantasy style music that plays a huge role. Very good episode, i hope it keeps up on this level.

Oh, and need more of the pony-tail girl near the start. She's wonderful.

I have to say, I was relitively impressed with the first episode. Now, even though I've liked what I've seen, I still hope that we'll get more quality out of it in the future.

Yay subs. I think my favorite little touches out of this series so far have been the fingers in a phone shape actually being how you use a phone and ponytail girl hacking with chalk. This has virtually unlimited potential for awesome. Of course, whether it manages that or not is another matter, but we'll see, right?

It was nice. I'll probably rank it number 4 under Lucky Star, or maybe number 5 behind Darker Than Black. It's probably on the same level as DtB for me (but totally different lawl) I just have less animosity towards it because it's by a studio I kind of like.

I think this is definitely well-anticipated sort of thing. Of course with just one episode it only delivered what we expected: a very cool setting. So far the show has yet to demonstrate its merits, I think.

But thanks to bokurano, now I expect people to pancakes-small.jpg

Anywho, while the concept sounds intriguing, I hate these character designs so much that I don't think I could bear it >_<

The Deliverator belongs to an elite breed, he's got espirit up to here...

Come to think of it, that's what Kiki did, isn't it? tongue.gif She's like Hiro and YT combined, with magic instead of hacking...

If Denno Coil is half as good as either one, I'll watch it. More screencaps?

i love the child mischeif theme, it sorta gives i feeling like The Goonies.

thank you subs T*T . i like the animation in this show. things more really well throughout. anyone else agree? like i said before, both the Ghibli-esque style of art and the story seem Ghibli-esque. maybe it's because the art is, and so we think the story is, but i don't think that it. the art and story go well together.
love this show

I don't think that's possible...

I was surprised it took this long for a thread to be created. Definitely on the list of 'random anime that I didn't previously know about, but decided to download anyway and was impressed by the overall quality'.

Want a pair of those magic glasses.
