I wanted to post an "anniversary filk" for one year since my first proper filk, "Megatokyo Row", which was four days ago. Accursed forum work, forcing the board down and ruining my anniversary...

Anyway, here's something taken from "Forever Young", with apologies to Bob Dylan. Note that I used the "fast version", though the original (and Joan Baez's cover, for that matter) should scan fine.

Forever Leet

May God bless and keep you always,
May your filking all ring true,
May you always dream of Yuki
Though she never dreams for you.
May you love the fanboys on the board
And flame-wars never meet,
And may you stay forever leet.
May you stay forever leet!

May your post-count grow to "leet one",
May you av be ever-new,
May you never feed the trolls
Or smite the newbs surrounding you.
May you always love some fanworks,
Start only threads with meat,
And may you stay forever leet.
May you stay forever leet!

May your verse all fit the meter,
May your rhymes all fit the scheme,
May you watch out for not-penguins
When the poems get too lean.
May your roles always be cheerful,
May your wordplay draw no heat,
And may you stay forever leet.
May you stay forever leet!

~~~~~~
Only longtime followers of WhiteKnight's She Comes fanfic may be aware, but I consider my first entry into filk to be "A Doll's Song". I thought I'd revise it slightly (more as a poem than a proper, singable filk), and post it here:
A Doll's Song v2.0
I wish I weren't a Sony doll,
I wish I weren't a loner's toy.
I'd rather dance around Harajuku underground,
Living off some sweeping for my friendly gothic.
I don't want my memories to be reset,
I don't want my user's apathy.
I'd rather stay in the Cave, in my merry, merry Cave,
And rave this buggy programming away.
Congrats W_O! A very awesome anniversary to say the least. I mean, without those amazing filks, SC wouldn't be half as cool. And to top it off, you make such a great filk to celebrate it!
happy.gif and let's all try to heed the advice of this wonderous god of filkers, wouldn't that be cool?~
An excellent choice for a filk, and a very naural rhyme and rhythm. My only quibble is that you mispell the word 'l33t' throughout the piece!^^
Ooo - I got a shout out!^^
Nice, WO. I really like your filk; it's got such a nice sentiment to it.
As for your poem, it's generally very good. Again, I like the overall theme of it. However, I'm finding the "gothic" line to be jarring, for a number of reasons. "Gothic" doesn't seem to be a noun, the way you're trying to use it. It also is a rather harsh ending sound and doesn't seem to weave in with any other sounds you're using throughout the piece. The line itself also doesn't appear to work with any preexisting meter. It is entirely possible I just don't know how to read this, though.
Aside from that, I really, really like the last line: "And rave this buggy programming away." It has a depth and imagery that isn't found in the other lines. Ping dancing away, uncaring and uninhibited, in the middle of the Cave of Evil, trying to lose herself and forget that she has any flaws. So nice and so human.
WO...For what it's worth, you have earned my 100th post...
There will be other milestones, but an anniversary must truly be reveled in. You have done something quite nice with this, and I appreciate it. Keep rocking.
-Mad Word
PS: I finally got a new filk out, but that's for post 101.
Thanks, but let's keep the idolatry to a minimum. Last thing I want is to be struck by a thunderbolt. wink.gif
j00 /\/\34/\/ 1337?
The reason I "misspelled" it was with the idea that it's written to be sung, and one can't sing a numeral. cool.gif
However, I'm finding the "gothic" line to be jarring, for a number of reasons.
I was uncertain about the word, but kept it that way to keep the syllable count as consistent as possible with the original "I Don't Want to Join the Army". link
In hindsight, it was unwise. Ah well. sleep.gif
Following the theory that the highest praise is proof of inspiration, I give you Rod Stewart's "Forever l33t":
May a good rhyme be with you
in every filk you post
and may scansion and the fanboys
support you when you need it most
and may your posts not be loud
frivolous or blue
And flame only others
as you'd be toasted, too.
Be loquacious when you rave
and in phorums you'll always stay
forever l33t*, forever l33t
forever l33t, forever l33t
May good line-art be with you
may your mousing hand be strong
post a CG like heaven
from a love of the comic long
And if you never post in vain
then in phorums you will remain
forever l33t, forever l33t
forever l33t, forever leet
forever l33t
forever l33t
And if you're finally made a mod
I'll post knowing that you'll do well
for all the l33tness in the phorum
they will have chosen well.
But whatever kind of muse
you decide to choose, you won't lose:
forever l33t, forever l33t
forever l33t, forever l33t
forever l33t, forever l33t
4, forever l33t, forever l33t.
Rod Stewart's "Forever l33t"
There went my plan for the two-year anniversary. tongue.gif
Stewart's "Forever Young" has a fair bit of nostalgic value for me - it was apparently a hit about the time I was born, my mother's a Stewart fan, and so it became my "theme song". So I'm glad to see that you've done it ample justice. happy.gif
I really love the original and I really love this filk. As things change it's beautiful to see how similar they stay. Bobby D's testament to the brilliancy of youth is the perfect base for this loving nod to the creativity of this forum. (Since Bobby D's start as a protest singer, he has gone electric and gone back, and has gone Christian and gone back, and I have not been on this forum for a long time, and am probably not coming back, but the forum seems to remain forever young. Bless creation for that.)
P.S. though I've been mostly lurking and checking the forum irregularly and not posting, I have to say I've been enjoying all the filks of yours that I caught. Especially the full album spoofs. Those were incredible.
