It was mentioned in the MDT, and so far I've not seen anything resembling it, so here's a translated rescript.

Now, all the people can quit asking for translations that have already been done in the MDT.

<cortana> Image moved to megatokyo servers to save Eldritch's bandwidth =).

Wow...I thought this was just going to be a definite translation in text so people didn't have to ask, but I had no idea I was gonna get this. Putting it where the Japanese was really helps to understand the translation better...that was a really good idea. =)

Thank you! I was expecting another text translation, so I was pleasantly surprised when an image loaded. =D I agree, this is a great idea.

Alternate translation:

Panel 2: I have you now! Did you really think you could escape?

Panel 3: You're a slippery one. Erika is going to have to pay me double.

Panel 4: Y'know, it's kind of a pity I have to take you back... but Erika would break my skull if she found me stealing her bishies.

Panel 5: Hey, can I still come and visit you after she's done with the brainwashing? You're kinda cute. Promise you'll try to remember me?

Panel 6: Promise?

Y'know, even with my limited knowledge of Japanese, I must say that this translation does the best job of striking a balance between accuracy and fluency. It catches a lot of the subtleties of Kimiko's Japanese, and condenses it all into natural sounding English.

You could get a better font, though. Fred's I's don't have serifs. tongue.gif

Okay let's try that again (first post was a bit wonky). My own twist in the tradition of Kodansha's bilingual manga. Using my own translation (which might not be as good but hey... translation is an art not a science there can be more then one way to get the point across).

sorry about the small text

user posted image

I'm almost tempted to do the full comic bilingual and translate Largo into Japanese.. wouldn't be too hard ^^.

I'm a member of a manga scanlation group but usually my translations go through my Japanese fluent friend... I'm not strong enough to stand on my own yet.

Heh heh....And I was just about to post a translation thread (more like a DOES ANYONE UNDERSTAND WTF IS SHE SAYING thread), none of the less, I am happy that you did it in the bubbles. Why the hell did Fred do that? *confused*

He thought that since Largo didn't understand her either, it wasn't important that we did. Not saying I agree with his logic, but that is his stated reason for Kimiko's Japanese dialogue.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but some of your kanji are patently wrong. For "yakusoku" you've got the character for "yaku", to grill or cook by fire. The one(s) you want is 約束.

Heh. "Will you burn for me, Largo?" (note also that you had "yakusoko"). Edit: Well, to be more accurate, "will you grill that place for me, Largo?", though that's not grammatically correct either.

Also, "kureru" for "kuremasu" in the 5th panel, though that is the right kanji, is usually all hiragana.

Kimiko's "sore shinjitemasu" is not an imperative or a tense that requests something of someone, so I would have translated that as "I believe that" instead of "[please] believe in that, [Largo]". However, I can see how one might interpret it that way.

I don't mean to criticize, just suggesting and discussing. I've only learned Japanese for four years, so I don't have much authority.

Good job doing the bilingual thing, though.

I do like the OP's translation.

Been reading Megatokyo for three years now. It took this panel to sign up for the forums.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to translate the dialogue. Now can do you a Hawaiian version... biggrin.gif

ha, just when i'd post a thread with the translation, I come to find this post, and the tranlation is just like mine, but it wasn't that hard the text to translate, once I readed a little slower I com to understand quite well what Kimiko said.

Piro, hurry up or you 'll have to do Kimiko's laundry, and I don't think she'd like that, lol

Sorry. Blambot only has so many free fonts. Webletterer was the closest to Fred's font that I could find without shelling out $30.

That was much appreciated, and in a way that is very well-presented.
Thank you, and please, do not take offense when I say that as time goes on, I hope to not have to rely on you to understand what's going on.
(I hope to learn Japanese well enough to then read it for myself. Until then, though...)

Thanks for that. I am learning, and could get certain words and the rough idea, but seeing it there really helped. ^-^ -gives pile of cookies-

EDIT>> I am learning Japanese, not just "learning."
