Hi all, I bet most of you don't remember me... seems I've been tres busy of late and haven't had much time to post.

I have a HUGE favor to ask. It so happens that I am in Tokyo... I got sent here on very short notice for work, and it's my first time in Japan. I've managed to do a lot of things MT related (went to Kiddie Land, went to Shinjuku and Shibuya and Akhibaira, bought some Manga, ogled some schoolgirls, gave away a railcard, bought a robot) but the one thing that's on my list to do that I haven't done yet and can't suss out how to find is eat at an Anna Millers.

I've only got 2 days left and I just realised I hadn't done it yet!

I found their site and the directions page here Anna Miller's directions page but it's in Kanji and Katakana! AltaVista babelfish was no help at all.

So, can I call in a favor? If someone could post or IM me an address it would be very helpful... I am staying at the ANA Hotel Tokyo, which is an easy walk away from Roppongi Crossing (where all the gaijin hangout at bars and such) and I am not afraid to use the subway to get to wherever, I have good maps and stuff, but I need the address in romanji or I have no hope.

(yes I could ask my co-workers, but that entails explaining why... they already think I'm a demented otaku as it is)

I looked through the other forums and it really looks like this is the best bet (well maybe not, but this is the group where there's at least SOME hope that people remember who I am)

Hint:

If you're going to be an otaku, you may as well be proud of it. happy.gif

Seriously... unless Fred or someone like that sees this, I'd say the probability of a forumite knowing where one is.... maybe 8.75%...

Of course... maybe 28% know some Japanese... less know it extensively and fluently... but still, maybe you can get lucky and one of them won't mind terribly translating that webpage for you.

Hopefully this pilgrimage goes well... and if you are able... do take pictures and share. I'm sure some of the youth here would enjoy that. happy.gif

Well, as it turns out, I did some more digging on the web and guess what, I think I found one!

Hiroo restaurant guide

partway down the page is this:

"Anna Miller's (Minami-Azabu)
Tel.: 3446-6577 Open: 24 hours
Located at: 5-10-24, Minami-Azabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo
One minute walk from Hiroo Subawy Station, Hibiya Line
Sandwich, Pasta, Pies"

Yaay! Minato-ku is the district I'm in (as well as Tokyo Tower! Hello to all StrangeCandy fans!) and the Hibaya line is easy to catch, it's how I went to Akihabara... The Hiro-o station is only one stop past Roppongi so I'll definitely be eating there tomorrow nite if all goes according to plan.

Yes I'll take pictures. :-) As you say... "If you're going to be an otaku, you may as well be proud of it. happy.gif"

WTF? It says that there is one in Tachikawa, like 500 meters from my apartment!!! I've been living here for four years and never knew it was there!

Good pie, best damn hot chocolate on the planet, passable food (avoid anything with mashed potatoes, it's not real), cute waitresses, quick service, good prices...

Though having a former section leader as my server, particularly in a skirt that short was a bit disturbing.

As for not taking pics inside, I will see if I can sneak one or two with the flash off, I have a pretty small camera... but only AFTER I'm done eating! I can just claim I didn't understand what the sign said... There was one in Akihabara that said (roughly): "As the taking of photography it is not indulged"

Shorter skirts than expected? You say that like it's a bad thing! (married, not DEAD! that's my motto)

One of the things that really struck me, even though I had read about it before, and expected it, is how very very fashionable everyone is. Almost EVERYONE has a style, and you can tell they all cultivate it assidiously. Lots of different styles, lots of fun to just people watch the crowds... I must have blown 2 hours yesterday just sitting around and watching people (15 min here, 15 min there)

Wow, sugoi yo, JAFanboy-san! Arigatou gozaimasu! Great photo journal. Kudos to you for posting it and for point-asking to take pictures, to the manager of the Anna Miller's for letting you do so, and to the serving girls for posing for a picture. And, of course, kudos to Fred-san for pointing you to it in the first place. smile.gif

I hope you're planning to keep the journal up for a while, or wouldn't mind my downloading the images/page for later reference. It's always great to find quality source material on specific places in Japan.

You're very welcome! Just a little bit of giving back, I guess, so I'm glad you enjoyed it and found it useful.

I plan to keep it up "indefinitely", so I don't think there's a need to copy it. I suppose I ought to assert copyright on the page, I guess, but if you really want to take copies I'm certainly not going to be able to stop you.

Well, I do try to respect the intellectual property rights of others. I certainly don't plan on re-posting any of the images or altering them, mirroring the site, or claiming it is my own material. Having the files stored locally is helpful, especially if I cannot get to the site or to the internet in general.

You done good, m'boy. You done good. laugh.gif

Ahh... to be a white foreigner... curse my American upbringing...

Whenever I go to the East... people start talking to me in their native language... >_<

At least white people, they assume you don't speak the language and you can always tell them you do if you do. For me, it takes forever to get the message across that I don't speak the language and I'm not just playing dumb. >_>

Nods... Sure, go for it. I have no objections whatever, given the stipulations you outline so be my guest.

To everyone else, thanks for the kind words, glad it was of some use to you all. It's not much of a payback for all the kindness and help that so many show to others here but it's a little something anyway.

I know this post is big-time necro, but it's worth mentioning that the Anna Miller's in Hiro-o, which JAFanboy visited, is not there anymore. I spent about an hour wandering around Hiro-o with a friend today, trying to find it, before giving up and asking some schoolgirls (the best people to ask, since they study English on a daily basis in school and have it relatively fresh in their minds) who informed us that it closed down. So any other MT fans who want to visit an Anna Miller's while in Japan, you'll have to find another one. Gomen. sad.gif

(Edit: The reason I'm posting this in a two-year-old thread is because this thread is linked from JAFanboy's page with the photos, which itself is linked from the Wikipedia entry for Anna Miller's, so it's likely that other people wanting to visit one will find it. I wouldn't want others to find out the hard way, as I did, that this one is gone.)
