I'm not sure what prompted this - I was reading the forums whilst listening to the radio when the original song came on, and suddenly inspiration struck, pummelled me to the ground, sat on top of me and wouldn't let me up until I'd finished the filk. So here it is.
This is as sung by the surviving fanboy seen in Friday's comic, who'd better have a good singing voice for all our sakes, but especially Erika's. <Thinks about Erika's reaction for a moment>. Okay, especially for his own sake. Don't Hide From Me Hayasaka We may seem crazy, we may seem weird But I'll try to explain how we feel How we still feel your love even now that you're gone And why we seek you Whatever came of that girl we once knew That voice so delightful and kind Our quest is to seek out the truth Why did you let it happen, what made you change? Was our faith in you holding you caged? Feeling trapped by our love for an image of you Did you choose freedom? Running away, starting out somewhere new Did our fandom drive you away? We never intended it to Don't hide from me Hayasaka The truth is we still adore you Why did you vanish Fade from existence You're still our idol Don't keep your distance And what of fortune, and what of fame Did they weigh too heavy on you? Did they seem to demand you become someone else? A mere illusion Giving us the delusion we truly knew you A picture we'd made in our minds From glimpses and voices of you Don't hide from me Hayasaka Don't hide from me Hayasaka The truth is we still adore you Why did you vanish Fade from existence You're still our idol Don't keep your distance Do we ask too much? Then we'll depart and nevermore will we trouble you But all we ask before we go Is that you'll simply let us know the truth Don't hide from me Hayasaka The truth is we still adore you Why did you vanish Fade from existence I'll keep my promise We'll keep our distance Original song: Don't Cry For me Argentina Lyrics: It won't be easy, you'll think it strange When I try to explain how I feel That I still need your love after all that I've done You won't believe me All you will see is a girl you once knew Although she's dressed up to the nines At sixes and sevens with you I had to let it happen, I had to change Couldn't stay all my life down at heel Looking out of the window, staying out of the sun So I chose freedom Running around, trying everything new But nothing impressed me at all I never expected it to Don't cry for me Argentina The truth is I never left you All through my wild days My mad existence I kept my promise Don't keep your distance And as for fortune, and as for fame I never invited them in Though it seems to the world they were all I desired They are illusions They're not the solutions they promised to be The answer was here all the time I love you and hope you love me Don't cry for me Argentina Don't cry for me Argentina The truth is I never left you All through my wild days My mad existence I kept my promise Don't keep your distance Have I said too much? There's nothing more I can think of to say to you But all you have to do is look at me To know that every word is true Don't cry for me Argentina |

>>> Don't hide from me Hayasaka
>>> The truth is we still adore you These two words conflict with each other. Consider changing "me" to "us". Otherwise, it's rather interesting. |

In reply to: Good point, but changing it to "us" would dilute the line's resonance with the original version. Also, since it's the last fanboy standing talking to Erika, but he's also speaking on behalf of his fellow fanboys, I think it's just-about valid. It is a little clumsy, though - maybe I should try and change the second line instead. |

Nice. I especially like how the fanboy wrestles with the question of why she left. Elyscape |

Intersting. Having a rapid Hayasaka Erika fanboy/stalker speculating on why she left the biz. It adds depth and interest to the filk, but it seems out of character for what we've seen of these stalker fanboys.
As for Erika's reaction: here is Shoka's take on it. |

In reply to: I'm not so sure - I have a feeling that learning the truth about Erika's disappearance is a large part of their conscious motivation. The fanboy in [466] swears to "find the truth you died so valiantly to reveal", which seems like more than just finding Erika. But maybe I give them too much credit. In reply to: Yes, that sounds about right - probably before the second verse. |
