I know Megatokyo has evolved greatly over time, but what is the official ruling on how long they've been in Tokyo? I was looking through the archives and Tsubasa said that they had been in his apartment for six weeks. Has this changed? It seems like they've only been there a few days now in the later comics.

No, it hasn't changed. They have spent 6 weeks, plus an additional, unknown interval of time (Erika says that Kimiko has been obsessing over the railcard for weeks). Each of the chapters following have been one day each. They've been in Tokyo for several months now, even though it doesn't seem like it.

I'd guestimate that Chapter 00 took up at lest 13 weeks, as Seraphim stated "They've been in Japan for monthes. I don't really know how long.

I tend to think of it as three and a half 'real days' plus a few months that due to some kind of inexplicable temporal distortion passed like a single day. (I suspect that if Fred had known in advance how big MT would get he would have used the 'each chapter is one day' plan right from the beginning.

I'm guessing around six to seven months. Erika's line about Kimiko obsessing about the rail card for months and the time it takes for Largo's bones to heal being my basis. I broke my legs twice before, in much the same ways Largo did, took me about five to six months to properly heal.

Erika may have said that Kimiko brings up the railcard at least once a week, but she may have been exaggerating. So I wouldn't take it for fact that there was an extended length of time after the railcard incident, although there could have been one.

here's a MT timeline i cobbled together from forum discussions some time ago.

my estimate: 1 day in the US + 50 days in Japan + the unknown interval + 5 days, with the unknown interval being a number of weeks to a couple of months.

we haven't seen any winter clothing throughout MT, so presumably the events either range within Spring to Autumn of one year, or the unknown interval lasts a whole winter.

wow, that mt timeline thing is way off

Chapter 0 - one day @ E3, drunken evening. fly to japan arive next day. Buy stuff, no money to get home. wake up 3rd day in Tsubasa's apartment. Play games for six weeks (so, thats six weeks + 3 days - so lets say 6x7 = 42 days + 3 days = 45 days) Day 45 tsubasa gets irritated. Day 46, piro and largo have money to try to get home. Day 47, broke again, piro leaves to try to figure out what to do. Piro spends the night walking the streets of tokyo. Morning of day 48 (friday) is the railcard incident. Piro deletes his email on day 49, day 50 (saturday) he goes looking for new sketchbook. Chapter 0 ends at the end of day 50 (sunday).

Chapter 1 was day 51 (Monday)

Chapter 2 was day 52 (Tuesday) (wrong week for the zombie attack)

Chapter 3 was a day 53 (Wednesday)

Chapter 4 is day 54 (Thursday)

once the story kicked in, the days started to get a lot longer I wouldn't call this canon, by any stretch, i prolly goofed something up, but whatever Does it REALLY matter? tongue.gif

this is the SD forum. here, the more irrelevant and nit-picky, the more it matters .

goes off to amend timeline to the new officially unofficial one.

Yeah.. like the fact that there is not even a week between the railcard incident and when Kimiko brings it up, and Erika countering with the "at least once a week" comment (though, like they say, this could be an exaggeration.. but if it was, would it not be once a day?), based on Piro-sama's timeline.

I think your timeline, JeroenB, is probably best.. just need to figure out what the unknown interval is.

There could have been some additional subtext to that comment from Erika. If Kimiko is getting so worked up over being given a railcard, it is at least possible that she could have done something similar in the past. If that were the case, Erika's comment could be interpreted to mean that she brings up not necessarily this incident, but a variety of similar incidents with some frequency.

"It" could represent a railcard like event, not necessarily the railcard incident itself.

If that is true, that she has been given rail cards like that before and obsessed over it, is Piro really the first one she has been able to track down? Does Kimiko prey on kind young men? Is giveing her a rail card your passport to a broken heart?...... probably not, but it was fun to say. lol

It could be that Erika was just embellishing (sp?) with her comment about "weeks"
