Well, it IS a boring weekend, and I've had the Counting Crow's A Long December stuck in my head all day, so I just HAD to make a Filk out of it. It turned out pretty well, but the way he sings it and the way I manipulated some of the lyrics... well, let's just say there are a couple lines that I just could not get to scan properly. Oh well, I submit it for your enjoyment anyhow:

A Boring Weekend
A Filk of the Counting Crows' A Long December
by Marak

A boring weekend but there's reasons to believe
That the next strip will be better than the last
I still remember the last time that they said Ping was like Chobits
Now the trolls get banned so fast

And it's one more day out there in Fred's world
And it's one more night in Forum-land
If you think he might post a DPD
Could be planned
Na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na yeah...

The sight of forum lists on Sunday
And I'm adding all my choices to the specu-lation game
All at once you look, sighting a Piro post
You see the way that they flock to it like a flame

And it's one more day to lurk the Forums
And it's one more night in Forum-land
If you think about critiquing all of Dom's rant
I guess you can
Na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na yeah...

Fred throws up Monday's new strip sometime after 2 A.M.
And posted a little rant about his life
I guess the weekend makes time pass a little slower
Set your sights a little lower
Too bad that panel did not show her

And it's been a boring weekend, but there's reasons to believe
That the next strip will be better than the last
I can't remember all the times I laughed at the humor
When I read all my fav'rites from the past

And it's one more day immersed in Fred's world
And it's one more night in Forum-land
It's been so long since Fred included Junpei
We miss the man
Na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na yeah... (yeah)
Na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na yeah, awww
Na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah...

-------------------------------

A Long December
Counting Crows

A long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember the last thing that you said as you were leaving
Now the days go by so fast

And it's one more day up in the canyons
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think that I could be forgiven
I wish you would
Na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na yeah...

The smell of hospitals in winter
And the feeling that it's all a lot of oysters and no pearls
All at once you look across a crowded room
To see the way that light attaches to a girl

And it's one more day up in the canyons
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think that you might come to California
I think you should
Na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na yeah...

Drove up to Hillside Manor sometime after 2 A.M.
And talked a little while about the year
I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower
Makes you talk a little lower
About the things you could not show her

And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself
To hold on to these moments as they pass

And it's one more day up in the canyons
And it's one more night in Hollywood
It's been so long since I've seen the ocean
I guess I should
Na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na yeah... (yeah)
Na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na yeah, awww
Na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah...

P.S. Yes, I'm still working on more Eagles Filks, I just needed to get the Counting Crows out of my head, first. Ah well, back to work...

Good job Marak, I enjoyed that filk even if I can't seem to remember hearing the song, though I'm sure I have.

Nice one... Sounds like every weekend around here, and well... Heck, it's even a song I recognize.

I love this song! It's one of my favorites, and I was hoping someone would filk it. A dream come true! happy.gif

I tried to sing along but you're right, some lines don't scan very well. But that's okay. I love your lyrics.

YEEEESSSS! This is awesome! You, my friend, know how to make me happy; Counting Crows are one of my all time favorite bands (as I think you noticed at some point), and this is one of my favorite songs. This is marvelous; I'm so happy! This has just been a great week for filks all around. happy.gif

Re: Intregral, C-kun, and, well, everyone else for that matter
Well, I'm certainly glad that everyone likes it. The thing that still kinda bugs me is that, even after I re-wrote some some of the lyrics to match up more closely syllable-wise with the original lyrics, it STILL doesn't scan...
After the third or fourth variation on a specific line you just have to give it up and say, "close enough" and move on. At least, that's what I have to do, or else I'm pretty sure I'd still be tweaking the dern thing...
One of these days I'm gonna hafta take one of my favorite Counting Crows songs - Rain King, maybe, or perhaps A Murder Of One, although that would be outrageously difficult, or Perfect Blue Buildings - and Filk it, just for my own enjoyment. At least I know I'll have an audience

A LONG DECEMBER! WHOO! That's a great song. You're pretty good at writing filks. Are there any others?

Ooooh, I simply can NOT resist such a blatant invitation to toss up some self-promoting linkage!

Try this Filk of Jethro Tull's Locomotive Breath
Warning: reading this MetaTokyo side story RP is a requirement to fully understanding the lyrics and the general gist of said Filk.

I also made this Filk of The Eagles' Victim of Love.
No required reading for that one, so enjoy.
