Since Fred has been giving us 70s retro with the GTC:OC comics, I thought a 70s filk was required. This one goes out to a very special lady, without whom we'd have no Megatoyko, Makoto-rin!

Makoto-rin
{After Dancing Queen -- ABBA}

ColoGuys is her home, she hosts MT all alone,
Server girl, webhost queen, she is Makoto-rin.

Sunday night before a comic post
Fans hammering MT's webhost.
A 'bot struggles with the load, bearing all the pain,
She has a website to maintain.
Fans say "Server's running slow."
Never caring if her circuits blow.
Ukyo feeds her nikuman, with it she'll get by,
Still, she'd like a lighter load,
The strain corrupts her code ...

{Chorus}
She is Makoto-rin, cute and l33t, kawaii android teen.
Fanboys please, have mercy for our server queen, (Oh Yeah)
ColoGuys is her home, she hosts MT all alone,
Server girl, webhost queen, she is Makoto-rin.

Cooling fans fail, she starts to frown,
Circuits burning and now she's down,
But when Ukyo repairs her, she'll host again anew,
Still, she'd like a lighter load,
The strain corrupts her code ...

{Chorus}

She is Makoto-rin...
She is Makoto-rin...
She is Makoto-rin...

{Thanks to Nathanbp for technical information. Any technical mistakes are my own, and not his.}

Dancing Queen -- ABBA [1976]

You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen

Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music's high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...

(Chorus)
You are the Dancing Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing Queen, feel the beat from the tambourine (Oh Yeah)
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen

You're a teaser, you turn 'em on
Leave them burning and then you're gone
Looking out for another, anyone will do
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...

(Chorus)

Dig in the Dancing Queen...
Dig in the Dancing Queen...
Dig in the Dancing Queen...

Heh. Nice job, Hamster! happy.gif Very amusing, and sympathetic, too. Poor Makoto-rin. Cute cute server's shouldn't have to put up with such meanness.

I really need to get around to getting a copy of that, just for the multitude of filks about it.

*cracks up* Wow, this one is so amazingly fun to sing along with. I LOVE the chorus, especially "She is Makoto-rin, cute and l33t, kawaii android teen." Kawaii android teen *laughs*. I don't really like Largo filks and it seems like the others tend to be so serious; it's nice to have a lighthearted filk to enjoy. Great job!

I have a question, though... does the suffix "-rin" rhyme with queen? I've never heard it pronounced and I fear I may have been reading it wrong all this time.

Edit: Added the question.

Hehe, I love it. Good choice of song, too. It's about time Makoko-rin was paid homage to like this.

Very well done. I will admit, though, when I saw the title of the thread, I was almost expecting you to use the song "Rebecca Linn." I guess I'm the lone country boy here, though.

General: Thank you! The compliments really do mean a lot to me, all the more so since some of you don't normally comment on filk threads.
{Incidentally, I've run a search and I've the honor of posting the first Makoto-rin themed filk.}

Hopefully my filk will remind everyone that servers have feelings too and so will treat her gently.

Absolutely. "Dancing Queen" is one of the quintessial 70s songs. It's one of the defining songs of the period. Fortunately, I like it.

Shoka:

Umm hmm. Right. Still got the polyester leisure suit, Shoka?
In reply to:

You evil little fur-ball!

Moi? I'm little and do look like a ball of fur, but I'm not evil ... well, not much. For True Evil you want a gerbil!

Phydeaux:
In reply to:

does the suffix "-rin" rhyme with queen?

I don't think it does. I thought "-rin" was pronounced with a short "i" sound, and of course "queen" has a double "e." That's a weak part in the filk, but there wasn't anything I could do about that. To compensate, I was careful elsewhere.

And although you say you don't like Largo filks, but you like lighthearted ones, perhaps you might give my Largo! {After Shaft} a try. It's lighthearted, and coincidentally, it's 70s retro too.

{About Shaft being one syllable where Largo has two. If one has heard the original Shaft, Issac Hayes puts enough beats between each line that a filker can put in several extra syllables, let alone one.}

Not quite, but it's been years since I've listened to Country/Western, so if it is current, I'd not have heard it.

A point in your country's favor.

Wai!

And yes, "queen" and "-rin" are plenty close enough to rhyme (as I explained in "Learning Japanese": a - i - u - e - o, "ah we soon get old"). It would be pronounced "reen"; you simply would not hold the vowel sound as long as you would in English.

Damn this was good! Even gave an appreciation, of sorts, for Dancing Queen. Now, to see if I can hire my friends band to Dancing Queen with these lyrcis, record it and convert it to an MP3...

Damn I'm evil.

I have to agree with everyone else, this was just great AH! As I read through it again I am tempted to get up and dance(which I cannot do to save my life) given that I can hear the music playing in my head with someone singing your most wonderful lyrics.

In other words, that was all a very odd compliment. Also, I went and read Largo! and could not stop laughing. Wonderful wonderful filks AH, keep it up.

Thank you all again! And I'm also glad to hear that Largo! was appreciated.

And smurd saves the day with his note on pronouncation!

Nix, glad to be of service to the TSMR.

Wow! That would be very cool! If it does happen, please let me know!

Since Phydeaux has expressed an interest in my other filks, here are links to my other posted MT filks. They are serious fils, or are at least intended to be. I do have a comic filk ready and I'll post it soon.
