White. A world abandoned to the void. Mostly.

The sound of footsteps echoed from the stairwell out into the corridor above, mixing with the sound of a person's struggles. This place had been silent since a period during which time had lost all meaning, and the sounds were unfamiliar to it. A man exited the stairwell onto the hospital's top floor. He moved forward a bit, then paused to glance out the windows. All he could see was white; and he remembered now why the hospital had remained after all else had faded. Glancing behind him, back the way he came, he saw that the white had now engulfed even the stairwell, so that only the floor he was on was left. Clearly this world understood that this time would really be the end. The sounds of struggle grew louder as the man approached the only door in the corridor. As the white void encroached upon this room, the man took a moment to gather himself before he entered. Finally, he opened the door and stepped in.

"I didn't think you'd have the balls to come back here, Wave Master."

"Hello to you too, Dukat."

Dukat was just as Wave remembered him: securely strapped to one of the hospital beds, with a feeding tube and various cans of nutritional supplement lying to one side. It was really quite nostalgic. "Sorry about all this Dukat. It was too much trouble, so I figured it would be okay if I just let you die of dehydration." Wave spoke these lines with a casualness that would have confused most listeners. "I forgot that if you don't accept this world's existence and adapt, then your own existence will continue even if you don't play by the rules."

"Fuck you, Wave."

"You're too kind. Anyway, it's time to go again, and I was wondering if you could help me with the introductions this time." As he spoke this, Wave moved over to the bedside, and placed a hand on top of one of Dukat's hand. "Oh, and we're going to be shifting out of this world now, so you might want to tuck your other arm into your chest real quick."

Dukat just clenched his fingers into a fist at this, both of his arms still tightly bound to the bed. "Fuck you, Wa--" pop

***********************************************************

In the middle of a different world, in a great cloud-filled sky, floated a small metallic island. Around the edge of the half-sphere shaped island were 12 equally spaced platforms on which stood the forms of 12 people. Though there was no sun to be seen in the vast expanse of sky above and below the island, everything seemed brightly lit except for the 12 people, whose forms were wrapped in unnatural shadows. They were not speaking to each other, but rather all were watching the empty thirteenth platform in the very center of the island, as if they were expecting something unexplainable to happen.

pop "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

They didn't have to wait a long. Without warning, the figure of a man had appeared on the middle platform. He was wrapped in the same unnatural shadows as the others, making it impossible to discern his identity, but nothing could hide his missing left arm. The man was screaming at the top of his lungs as he gripped the stump at his shoulder with his remaining hand, trying to stem the flow of blood from the fresh wound.

"Ah, good. I see you all made it on time for the opening ceremony." The voice carried above as the man's screams as though it was being transmitted directly into one's brain. It somehow seemed to come from above, and the 12 people who were not currently incapacitated by unimaginable pain looked up to see that the god Deus ex Machina had appeared in the sky above them.

"Let us begin with a basic explanation, then. Before you is Dukat, who has kindly agreed to provide a brief demonstration. Like the rest of you, he has received a Future Diary, and I happen to have his here." Deus held up a cellphone for all to see. "Each Future Diary provides the bearer with some unique type of information about future events. In Dukat's case, his Future Diary tells about any ducks he will meet in the future." Deus paused to reassess this. "Or maybe it was cats, I seem to have forgotten already. Regardless, the point is that it's unique function is entirely useless. Even so, there is also a function that all Future Diaries possess, which you need to know about. And that is to describe the upcoming death of the bearer."

Suddenly, each of the 12 imagined they could somehow see the screen of the cellphone in their minds, and read the contents of Dukat's diary. It contained only a single entry: "Pierced by a spike trap in the middle of the center platform. DEAD END."

Deus spoke again, but it was clear to the 12 now that the words were only in their heads, and Dukat could not hear them. "Of course, the diary is useless to you if it is not in your possession. Which is why, even though Dukat's diary has predicted his death ahead of time, that fate is inevitable so long as he is not aware of it." The 12 watched in silence as Dukat continued to stumble around on the center platform, trying to master the pain from his wound, until a metal spike suddenly shot up out of the floor. It pierced through Dukat's chest and exited out his upper back, and lifted his whole body a few inches before it slid down the spike and came to a rest. "That," spoke Deus, "will certainly be the fate of all of you if you do not make good use of your Future Diaries. Realize that even with a diary whose main function is useless, this still could have been prevented."

At that, the air surrounding the center platform began to shimmer and distort, and each of the 12 realized without knowing how that time was being rewound. Their view of the platform cleared soon after, and they each saw Dukat standing there as he had been just before his death, with the spike nowhere in sight.

"If Dukat was possession of his diary, he would know that he is about to be killed by a spike trap in the center of the platform he is currently occupying." This time, Dukat seemed to be able to hear Deus's words; the 12 watched as he quickly scrambled over to one side of the platform, just barely in time to dodge the spike which again shot up through the floor.

"Everyone, please thank Dukat for his generous assistance with this demonstration. As we no longer have need of him, I will be destroying his diary now." Deus crushed the cellphone in his hand into shards of plastic, metal, and glass. The space around the center platform began to distort again, but in a much more sinister way than before when time had rewound. Dukat had only a moment to look up at Deus before it was all over.

"Fuck you, Wa--" pop

MAFIA 32: "MIRAI NIKKI" BEGINS NOW.

I will be sending each of you your role by PM after posting this. If you have not gotten it within 2 hours or so of me posting this, contact me and we’ll see where I screwed up. As mentioned before, this game will follow the usual Day/Night rotation that you are used to, but you will have to do some planning during the Day. Here's what will happen each cycle:

During the Day will be a DOUBLE LYNCH and PLANNING. In the double lynch, each of the 12 teams will have two votes to use for a total of 24 votes. This implies that the 7th (who is two people) and the 8th (who is one person but has two assistants) do not get more votes just because their side has more people. Marco Ikusaba will be responsible for as the 7th and Kamado Ueshita will be responsible for voting as the 8th. Ai Mikami, Orin Miyashiro, and Tan Batarou will not take part in the lynch.

You will cast your vote for characters, not players, and your votes will appear as characters, not players. You may only vote for character who can vote themselves, so Ai Mikami, Orin Miyashiro, and Tan Batarou are not valid lynch targets. If Marco Ikusaba is lynched, it will affect Ai as well, and similarly for Kamado Ueshita. A running tally will be provided by the GM as usual. Like a normal double lynch, you may use both, one, or neither of your votes, but you may not use both for the same character. The top two vote-getters will have their diary turned off for that Day and the coming Night only. If there are no votes, the lynch will have no effect. The diaries will come back on the next Day if their bearers survive the Night. If there is a non-zero tie, the lynch will be first come, first serve. You may change your votes as often as you like during the Day, but doing so will cause your vote to be treated as if it was submitted at the later time.

During the Day you will also submit your planned Night actions. Unlike votes, actions must target player names, not character names. If you submit nothing, I will assume you plan to do nothing in the coming Night. You may change your plan as often as you like during the Day, but doing so will cause your whole plan to be treated as if it was submitted at the later time.

At the end of the Day, I will first tally the votes, find out whose diaries will get turned off, and post a final tally. Then, I will perform a simulated resolution of the coming Night, under the assumption that you will all take the planned actions you submitted during the Day. In this game, every action is either considered to be Offensive, or Non-offensive. In the simulation, all Non-offensive will be resolved first, in the order sent. Then, all Offensive actions will be resolved later. However, the actions only have effects within the simulation. Once the simulation is done, you will not receive normal results but I will send information about the simulation to every player whose diary is on, based on the type of information that diary records. As mentioned in the narrative, all diaries will record the bearer's death if it occurs in the simulation. Included with the diary information sent at the end of the day will be a note as to whether you received enough non-trivial information to be able to change fate. For players whose diaries are off, this will always be no. For players who received a record of their death, this will always be death. Otherwise it is diary specific what counts as non-trivial information. This will be the end of the Day phase.

During the Night, if you did not receive enough non-trivial information to be able to change fate, then you have nothing to do. For those players who did, you may choose to submit Changed actions. If you submit a Change, the new actions completely replace anything from your Plan, which is discarded. You may submit a Change which is the same as your Plan (which is different from following your Plan unchanged!), or you may submit a Change which is different from your Plan. You may also send me a notice that you will follow your Plan unchanged (which is different from submitting a Change that is the same as your Plan!). If you do not submit a change, I assume you will follow your Plan unchanged. Players who are unable to submit a Plan have no choice but to follow their Plans unchanged. You may change your Change as often as you like during the Night, but doing so will cause your whole Change to be treated as if it was submitted at the later time.

At the end of the Night, I will perform an actual resolution. In the actual resolution, all Non-offensive actions that were part of a Change are resolved first, in the order sent. Then all Offensive actions that were part of a Change are resolved. Then all Non-offensive actions that were part of an unchanged Plan are resolved. Finally, all Offensive actions that were part of an unchanged Plan are resolved. So, you see that sending a Change automatically moves your actions earlier than anyone who does not, even if the actions in your Change are exactly the same as those in your plan. In particular, Offensive actions from a Change occur before Non-offensive actions from an unchanged Plan. Once I have resolved the actual Night, I will send normal results to every player, as well as a diary update with the information from the actual resolution to every player whose diary is on.

Some common game concepts follow. Everyone has a vote power of one, unless otherwise specified. Everyone has one life, unless otherwise specified. Everyone can take at most one action per Night, unless otherwise specified. Attacks which deal damage deal one damage, unless otherwise specified. If an action says it "sabotages" the target, this means that it nullifies any actions the target was going to resolve later in the night, as well as nullifying any on-going effects of actions which may have resolved earlier in the Night. If an action says it has an <X> Night cooldown, then if you use that action in actual Night (not in the simulation), you will be unable to use that action again as part of a Plan or a Change for the next <X> Nights.

***********************************************************

The 12 shifted uncomfortably on their platforms, having watched the man known as Dukat being erased from existence. It was fate they would have to avoid at all costs.

"Ah yes, I nearly forgot," spoke Deus. "It has come to my attention that one of you has something of an unfair advantage. In light of this, I feel certain steps are necessary to level the playing field." At that, the shadows surrounding Rapierman suddenly warped and dissipated, leaving his shocked face visible to each of the other 11, who were still cloaked in shadows.

Two platforms over, Minene Uryuu looked at the revealed form of the 11th, John Balks, Mayor of Sakurami City. The shadows that hid Minene's face from the others concealed an annoyed expression. "This will be a problem," she thought. "So long as he's Mayor, his Bodyguards will make it impossible to get anywhere near close enough to kill him, foresight or not."

"Deus," began John Balks, somewhat anxiously, "I did not agree to something like th--"

"That is correct; you did not," interrupted Deus. "Regardless, if you wish to participate I will require that you step down from your position as Mayor. I will allow you some time to make arrangements, but if you do not resign on your own then I will intervene. Is that clear, 11th?"

"Absolutely," responded Rapierman. Following that, his form on the platform promptly dissolved as he left the imaginary space in which the meeting took place.

"Then this meeting is adjourned," announced Deus. "The game begins now."

One by one, each of the remaining 11 forms dissolved, until all the platforms were empty.

***********************************************************

OTHER RULES AND STUFF:

THERE IS NO RULE AGAINST SEACOWING THIS GAME. For the uninitiated, "seacowing" refers to purposefully ignoring your win condition and playing the game to achieve some objective other than your own victory. If you feel like giving up the game and using your actions to propel some other player to victory, that is perfectly within the rules.

Votes and actions must be sent to me via PM to be valid. Votes and actions must be sent during the correct phase, and not before. Trying to vote or act in the wrong phase will be ignored.

Take care not to dead talk. If you are dead, I won’t stop you from making idle chit-chat in the game thread, but please take a moment to read over anything you post first and make sure that no living player could reasonably read in to it and discover something important you might have known.

Don’t impersonate other players. It’s perfectly acceptable for Player A to lie and say he has Role B, but it is not okay for him to lie and say he is Player B (for example, by using Player B’s name on IRC or by guessing Player B’s password). Do not lie at all to the GM.

Don’t involve forum members who are not playing in the game. No trying to use uninterested parties to pass messages for you. Only the people in the player list are playing.

Don't use word-for-word quotes or screenshots of private messages to try to show or prove anything. It’s not in the spirit of the game. I don't want your skill at deception to involve Photoshop in any way.

Sockpuppets may not be used for game-related purposes. Excalibur and Star Fox are welcome to screw around in the thread as much as they like otherwise.

The GM has the final say on all game decisions and may just suddenly do whatever he feels like for no apparent reason, and this is totally within the rules. It is very likely that the GM will screw with the game as it is on-going to fix balance issues.

There is an IRC channel on irc.freenode.net for mafia discussion called #mtf-mafia. I will at least be there most evenings and weekends if you want me to answer a question and PM is just too cumbersome. There is also another chan on that server called #deadchan which is exclusively for players who have already been killed. There you can discuss the game with other dead players and get GM insight if I am also in the chan. LIVING PLAYERS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN #DEADCHAN.

Feel free to ask me any questions you might have. I’m happy to help, whereas other players might be happy to lie to you.

There's a mayor. Did we elect one? is it a player?
There are 15 players and only 12 character names.
There is a giant wall of text.

Rapierman being singled out when the game just started seems unfair. No idea what that means. Apparently he is mayor with BG's?

From what I can tell Rapier was singled out because he is/was(?) the mayor and he appears to have a phase to step down or something.

There are 15 players, but there are also 15 character names.

08-1. Orin Miyashiro
08-2. Tan Batarou

These groups of people are on teams together and their fates may be tied together, I'm not sure.

And I must say Wave did a beautiful job of killing Dukat twice and showing off the game's system at the same time.

Rapierman (John Balks) is your Mayor, and has basic Bodyguard protection. This was not an elected role.

There are 12 opposing teams in this game. The seventh team is a group of two players. The eighth team is a group of three players. All the other teams are one man cells. The character list shows which characters are on a team.

Sorry if weaving this information into the opening narrative made it unclear, it was intended to be public knowledge.

Also, if anyone is annoyed that I am not using the family name first format for the names of Japanese characters, get over it.

All lynches this game are double lynches. You vote for character names. The top two vote-getters will have their diaries turned off temporarily.

... You have to ask? Look at the past three mafia games. All of the mayors were lynched. It's a death sentence to be declared Mayor.
Usually a cheerfully carried out death sentence... at least for the ones with the torches and rope.

Lynches pretty much ruin your day, or night really in this case. So yeah, important but not something that could kill you directly. It can get you killed however without actually killing you which is why its important.

Spada so pro.

But yeah, with BG's, Rapier can't be killed even if his bible is off, so it doesn't matter. He'll still be your mayor tomorrow, he just can't use any night shit he has.

Simple solution.
Kill the bodyguards.

Although, first you have to find them out. Then kill them.
Might be difficult though.

Incentive to kill mayor = ?

I'm sure I'm not the only seacow/free-agent with no win condition. If I am, chat me up. I don't even need to play to win <3

Sitting cross-legged on her bed, a young girl was staring intently at her cellphone.

CODE
Yuki is practicing darts.
Yuki scored a bullseye!  Congratulations, Yuki!

The girl smiled slightly, and whispered, "Congratulations, Yuki." She thought that she should go see him in ten minutes to congratulate him in person. Deus had called everyone into a meeting, but Yuno wasn't concerned with any votes other than Yuki's, so there was no reason for her to go in person. Muru Muru would relay her decision. Thinking thusly, Yuno sat without moving an inch, patiently waiting for her diary's next update.

CODE
SIGNAL LOST

The girl sitting on the bed still did not move an inch. Nothing about her expression, which had not looked out of place before, had changed. Just as softly as before, she whispered, "Don't worry, Yuki. I won't let them keep me from you."

"I'll kill them all."

***********************************************************

John Balks sat silently in City Hall, staring at the blank screen of his disabled diary. This was inconvenient. Having all this attention drawn to himself by Deus was certainly not part of his plan. Even so, he wouldn't give up the privileges of the Mayor's seat so easily. John was sure he could buy himself some time before Deus did anything. In the meantime, if they tried to stop him by disabling his diary, then he would interfere in his own way.

"Sir, we need to leave soon or we'll be late for the ceremony." His secretary waited patiently for him at the door.

Then again, it was difficult to find the time to accomplish anything major like this. Maybe resigning could have its benefits. He would have to consider it carefully.

***********************************************************

Final Tally:

Yuno Gasai (2nd)
Yomotsu Hirasaka (12th)
Keigo Kurusu (4th)
Minene Uryuu (9th)
Kamado Ueshita (8th)

John Balks (11th)
Yomotsu Hirasaka (12th)
Yukiteru Amano (1st)
Yuno Gasai (2nd)
Kamado Ueshita (8th)

Kamado Ueshita (8th)
Yuno Gasai (2nd)
Yukiteru Amano (1st)
Minene Uryuu (9th)

Yukiteru Amano (1st)
Marco Ikusaba (7th)

***********************************************************

NIGHT 1 ENDS TUESDAY, DECEMBER 13 AT 8:00 PM EST.

You may choose to submit a Change tonight unless your Day results say you cannot. A Change completely replaces your Plan. Any actions sent as a Change are resolved before any actions sent as a Plan. You may submit a Change that is the same as your Plan just to get the earlier resolution.

If your Day results say that you are not able to make a Change, you don't have anything to do in the Night but wait for the end.

EDIT: Diary results are out. Regarding Yukiteru Amano, while I try to write out his full first name in official results, I may slip and abbreviate it as Yuki. There is not a separate person named Yuki; if you see Yuki then I mean Yukiteru. Also, sometimes I misspell things.

And that's what's really scary. Hisui doesn't normally stay here for very long, at least not without a murderous reason...
