QUOTE (Random Wanderer @ Feb 18 2013, 09:26 PM)
Right now, with the most recent ending I played having been UBW's good ending, this is probably the best stopping place for me. It ends on a good, positive note, and by extension helps keep the game itself a good, positive thing in my mind. And that, I think, is how things should be.

I feel like Heaven's Feel ends with a stupidly positive ending, all things considered. Like, really positive. To me, it felt like a happier ending than Fate or UBW. The rest of the route is kinda dark, though.

Completed a first route of "ABANDONER, THE SEVERED DREAMS".
...........................................................*
I really liked it: it was very different from most other galgames I ever played, feeling more like watching a "film noir" or reading such a novel than playing galgame. Just consider: it had a cast of seventeen named characters, amidst whom only three were female! Not to mention there were very long period of time where none of the female cast appeared at all. As a matter of fact, it foremost focused on the story, rather than the characters, including the main character's relationship with the girls (not that there wasn't a romance but that it wasn't the focus of the story, as you'd expect from a galgame). I'd say it was a very mature game, truly written as a "normal" movie rather than a galgame, where a character had a role because his or her presence was necessary to the plot rather than, say, give a girl screen time because a galgame "should" show off its female cast. As such, people who play galgames for the "usual" reason to play them (meaning: FOR THE GIRLS) would probably be disappointed whereas people not that much into galgames --but into hardboiled, "film noir" stories-- would probably love it. Someone looking for tropes would certainly find more related to the latter than the former.
That being said, I think I need a small rest because I play the other routes (including the bad ending) since… well, out of the seventeen named characters, TWELVE died, including two of the girls, amidst whom THE MAIN HEROINE AND LOVE INTEREST(technically, at least). That's a… bit of a downer. ^^;;;;

...especially since I feel that in one of the other girls' route, this main heroine wouldn't possibly be saved (I mean, she cannot IN HER OWN ROUTE) whilst in the remaining girl's route, both of the other girls would die (the same way they do in this one, in fact).

Last year, I played Studio Mebius' "SNOW". Whilst I didn't dislike it very much, my favourite character (by a laaaarge margin) was Meiko, who didn't get a route. Now, I wouldn't complain about the matter since, because of her relationship to... the main characters, her having a route would have probably felt forced. So, it was all good for the story itself and since IMO "SNOW"'s best part was the sum of its stories being so beautiful, so moving, so touching, thus so painful and heartbreaking, therefore in the end, so heartwarming, satisfying and wonderful.
That being said, I still wondered whether Meiko had an omake game or something dedicated to her. AND SHE HAD! I found out a few months later that there was a sequel to "SNOW", 『友達以上、恋人未満』, featuring Meiko as the main heroine~ Now, I don't expect it to be as good as "SNOW" but, heh, who cares. I'M PLAYING IT FOR MEIKO-SAMA AFTER ALL~ wub.gif wub.gif
...except 『友達以上、恋人未満』 starts in April and I acquired it in June. Since I like to play seasonal games in the right season, the way I played "SNOW" in fact, I then had to wait. Until now.
WE'RE IN APRIL~ The 13th, in fact, whilst the game starts on the 9th. I missed the date because I didn't remember the game needed the disc to play but it's still good~ Meaning...
MEIKO-SAMA~ HERE I COME~ wub.gif wub.gif

P.S. The final scores I gave "SNOW" (character/story):
Sumino (8/7)
Legend (-/9)
Asahi (7/8)
Shigure (10/10)
Ouka (10/11¹)
Meiko! (10/-)

Game score: 9.5
¹ To be honest, what made the last story so enjoyable, touching and moving was that it wasn't Ouka's story, nor Kanata's, nor Kanata and Ouka's. It was Kanata, Sumino, Ouka, and even Shamon and Asahi's story (and Meiko's? ^^;; ). It was everyone's story, it was their story, it was the story of the family they formed, as they should have, all these centuries ago.

It's very rare that I try playing an AVG, but... I've been playing 月に寄りそう乙女の作法. The male lead works as a maid. The main route delivers pretty well what I expected from that concept.
