Chitanda's "Give us back the chocolate!!!" bit was both hilarious and surprising.

Fuku-chan is kind of adult... but at the same time it's also kind of lame.

Was this the best episode of the series? Perhaps it was.
I couldn't help thinking that the the Light Music Club stole the chocolate to go with their tea. |

Why couldn't they have stuck with that ending? I had a giant smile on my face then...BAM!

No more relaxing Hyouka Monday mornings. No more relaxing Sunday night Jinsuis. What am I to do now?
When/if season 2 rolls around, they need Oreki to be silently crushing over Chitanda for another 24 episodes so we can't have it end like that. |

There's one book they haven't animated. It's probably better served as a film than a second season, but we'll see. The way this ended makes me confident they're planning more. Otherwise they'd have probably kept with the fakeout instead of keeping canon for the purpose of dragging it out for one more book.

Well, that was insufferably Japanese. I could tell you how I'm feeling, but instead let's make a vague metaphor about the change of seasons.

the funny thing is they did tell US how they were feeling. which just made it even more insufferable. lol. something to chew on http://chaostangent.com/2012/09/little-birds-can-remember/ |

I thought this episode was wonderful. I had mixed thoughts about Oreki's confession being simply his fantasy, but this blog review changed my mind and won me over. Basically: Chitanda has been showing her world to Oreki, letting him know what he is in for. And I think she's perceptive enough to know what he was really saying --- and poured a lot of love and warmth into her reply, "No, it's Spring" (as in, "Spring has come to Oreki"). KyoAni's direction pretty much underscored that through recycling the footage of Oreki's fantasy. I haven't seen any comment on the symbolism of a man and a woman sharing an umbrella. I think that plays into the subtext as well. Also, Omo was probably right:
From this episode, yes, she probably can. However, it's all about pretext, plausible deniability: he still should have offered the girl his arm at the hatsumode. This post has been edited by dm on Sep 21 2012, 10:59 AM |

I don't think that is the correct etiquette though.
I thought it was obvious. But i guess not. The spring comment is sort of correct. It's a non-answer in the positive direction, to put it simply. But it simply wouldn't be ... Japanese if the story just neatly tidy up right then. The umbrella thing is a symbol in the plot but not really symbolism for the story. It's a plot device. I don't know if it's worth mentioning or not. What is probably worth mentioning is when the chocolate was stolen. Now that is symbolism lol. |
