In light of recent....events...on the forums here, I got to thinking that RP could use it's very own IRC channel. Now this channel wouldn't be a place just for forum downtime, but a place where DMs can kick new ideas around, test the waters for interrest in a new idea, or even pimp their games. I also forsee an IRC channel hosting a live RP game on weekends. Well, Just figured I'd get this thrown out to the wolves here and see what people think. If there is a channel, most likely it'll be hosted on freenode.net where many other forum based channels are sitting pretty.

That'd be cool. I'm quite interested in that idea.

I agree with PaoRou. It sounds like a good idea.

I'd be interested if I used IRC and had more time. Alas.

Ditto wapa. Though I am thinking of starting to use IRC - if I can find the time, that is. But it could be a good idea. I felt like a cocaine addict going through rehab the last few days.

Let's just say... I was bored off my ass. But thanks to work, I didn't have much time afterwards to BE bored. I started a new D&D game while we were gone as well.... so I"m now GMing three games a week.

But you know what? This break wasn't an entirely bad thing. It forced me to get away for awhile and recharge. I just made my first post in RP in... hell, a long time.

So this break was actually a good thing, for me.

As for the IRC, I agree. But we can talk about it all we want, but the issue remains that we'd need someone to set such a thing up. I won't even try to pretend I would know how to set up a Forum-RP, because I really don't know IRC that well.

But I still think it is a good idea. So, I say we ask around a little bit, and see if we can find someone to set up the IRC, and maybe keep it running. It would be great if it were someone in the RP community, but may not necessarily be...

I don't know much, but all you have to do is pick a server and name don't you?
And I suppose a person/bot to keep it up.

I'd be good incentive for me to get an IRC program. Had a demo of mIRC, but that expired a long time ago and I didn't even use it that much...

It's a good idea to register the channel, so you can set up stuff like ops, half-ops, whether it's moderated or not, etc.

I've learned enough about IRC to set up a channel, and I'm in IRC enough to keep the channel open almost 24-7. The only thing I probably can't do is set up a bot.

There are plenty of free IRC programs out there. it's not like mIRC is what you NEED for IRC.

Seriously, mIRC is probably the absolute last thing you want for IRC.

You can carry on useing it after it expires. For some reason.

And Dukat, I say just stick it together and see how it goes.

I'd come to an IRC channel. I practically live there as it is, so hey, why not.

Ok gang...here's what we're looking at...on the freenode.net server channel #forum-rp is now up and running. No bots just yet, but I can talk to people about loaning a bot or something.

Edit: for those shy an IRC client, until you find something better I present to you...CGI:IRC

Well, I went and got an IRC client...and into forum-m...but it says I have to be identified to hit forum-rp.

How's this all work?

*is brain-addled*

freenode seems to have a registered username rule, so yes..

When you log in, do this in status;

/nickserv register <password>
Where <password> is your username's password.

Afterwards, whenever they ask for identification; usually when you log in after disconnection, you can do this;

/nickserv identify <password>

Uhhh. I joined up. ^__^ Umm. And Trillian has an IRC plug in that is highly user friendly. Wasn't hard to figure out.

Tracer and I are, but I'm beginning to experience some difficulties.

EDIT: He had to leave, and I won't be on for much sooner either. Just fair warning.
