I think I remember that they broke, and I just now noticed that they've been gone a long time.
What's that mean? Did he get contacts? Is everything he sees all blurry, and has it just been an accepted state of being all this time?
Or, maybe, is his eyesight fine, but he wore glasses to make himself fit in ith the fanboys? I mean, what's the deal?

there still broke,(they were broken only like 2 days ago) and i don't think he'll get new ones any time soon (Glasses are rather expensive) also he can see for about 10-15 feet and then stuff gets blurry.

Largo sat on them. He doesen't have contacts, so everything IS all blurry for the poor guy.
Obviously his sight isn't THAT bad, or he would have instantly gone out to get new ones at the expense of everything else, or had a spare pair.

just looked, doesn't seem to be there, so make it #42 then, take a drink anytime somebody just notices Piro's glasses missing, and says it sure has been along time since he had them (2 days about) smile.gif

Yeah, it's getting kind of silly. I guess people have bad memories and/or didn't read the comic that closely in the first place? I'll add it in this week sometime.

Please point out it is merely the frames and not the lens when you input this into the drinking game.

You're referencing strip [725] and Largo appears to be about 20 feet away so if "things start to get fuzzy" at that distance Piro can get around fine. Speculation is that new frames should cost about $50 or maybe 6000 yen.

Modify that to say "If someone asks a question that can be answered in the comic." (There's a search engine for that.)

His glasses are broken because Largo sat on them. The reason he hasn't gotten a new pair is because glasses can be pretty expensive and lack of money is the reason why they are stuck in Japan in the first place!

I always held that remark as a sarcastic quip from Piro.

Or are we overanalyzing?

No, it makes perfect sense for someone who is appreciably nearsighted. I know quite well people with vision very much like that uncorrected. It's not overanalyzing, it's perfectly plausible. He could just as easily be farsighted or astigmatic.

Also, from experience, $50 for decent frames isn't bad. Plus prescription lenses.

He could feasibly get them fixed, I've had pairs of mine repaired from a worse state. Or, in fact, repaired them myself with far worse vision than his pansy 20' fuzzing.

Someone get the poor kid some wire.

Not sarcastic at all. My wife is horribly near sighted. She has admitted to me that without her glasses she can only recognize me by the way I stand when only across your typical-sized american class room (call it 20-30 feet.) The facial features totally blur out at that distance into face: nondiscript.

My vision drops very noticeably at about 30 feet. Up until there, I can see pretty decently. It hurts a tiny bit, but I can go without my glasses. Also, Piro could easily get his frames replaced. I got mine replaced in the middle of Tanzania.

I still say 20-30 feet is hardly short-sighted. Mine gets blurry at around 6 inches, with people starting to blend with the background at about 10 feet.

Eh... I doubt it. Given Largo's drunkeness, they were probably smashed to the point where lenses would need to be remade.

I hadn't thought of it but a drunken Largo might well be referred to as "fuzzy." Personally I'd always taken it at face value. but if we couldn't overanalyze this wouldn't be SD. wink.gif

My own vision is about the same as yours except that people don't generally blend with the background. That's why I know Piro can get around if he can see clearly at a distance of several feet.

His lenses should be fine unless they're scratched up to the point that he can't see through them. They really are tougher than you might think. Broken lenses aren't that common, in my experience.

Plastic lenses, and Largo was sitting on a couch/futon thingy. They're only bent.

Looking at the strip (http://www.megatokyo.com/index.php?strip_id=687 and http://www.megatokyo.com/index.php?strip_id=688), I've repaired worse myself with just my teeth and careful bending. Largo's fat arse does far less damage than a brick wall. (With the added advantage that Piro isn't bleeding, dazed, and angry.)

Bear in mind we were never actually shown the damaged glasses. We can only speculate.

We were in the strips I linked, albeit briefly.
