LOL. Someone reads the rants as well.

Actually, he does reply to e-mails with great accuracy. So you might as well try.

And yes, Junipi rocks

In reply to:

As an artist with a with a rather obvious affixiation with shoujo type manga it's just more fun to draw girls! [note: wait nevermind the shoujo part, it's just more fun to draw girls period ]

[edit:] Just remembered he DID do this one pic of DOM not to long ago ! http://www.fredart.com/fredart/artpage.php3?src=&ft=sk&fn=102

Girls are more fun to draw. In fact, i draw Piroko more than Piro, really. Drawing boys is boring, at least to me. tongue.gif

dont complain too much tho. Before MT, i really couldnt draw male characters at all.

piro

Heh, the same happens to a lot of people I know.

Why draw males when there's a whole universe of posibilities when drawing female characters??

Ah, but the trick, I would say, lies in drawing bishounen. I contend it to be the most challenging of all anime-related and realistic drawing arts alike, because not only does it involve many possibilities, but one must also maintain a certain balance for the drawings to work.

In drawing bishounen, one must at the same time attempt to draw him to be as beautiful as possible, while still keeping him as distinguishably masculine. The difference between male, female and androgynous is small, and the line is easy to cross. Thus the study of drawing bishounen forces one to pay attention to the tiniest details to maximize beauty while retaining masculinity.

Thus, it also teaches one how to draw female characters better. In drawing bishounen, one is forced to appreciate each part of the face on its own - what shapes of nose make a character more masculine or more feminine, what sort of eyes are pretty while still compatible with a male face, what kind of a jaw males have but females don't, what kind of eyebrows highlight eyes the most - and thus one is capable of making a character feminine by stressing only some specific parts of a drawing, making it easier, for instance, to draw females with short-ish hair.

It's a cliche that long hair and eyelashes are the sole thing that make a difference between male and female, especially in cartoons and anime, as the art style is stylished and often simplified. It is the study of bishounenity that best teaches the complexity and versatility of faces. I have spoken.

Guys are hard to draw in my part because they have to be "pretty" yet "manly". O.o

So an example of bishounen would be Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 2 http://junkerhq.net/cgi-bin/display.cgi?image=img120&imageinfo=Raiden

Yes, and bad examples would be most of the male character drawings in Chrono Cross.

Here's a thought: If you're going to draw, start with drawing guys and then go to girls since it might just even out?
