Oh yeah, part of what made me love the original Mass Effect so much was how it was a fully formed original world. Say what you will about Bioware, but they're good world builders. I just thing that having Hudson helm another Mass Effect game and this new property at the same time is overly ambitious.

I dunno, I can see two areas where a new ME game wouldn't suck.

1) MULTIPLAYER BRO SHOOTER. Capitalize off the rather shockingly fun mode from ME3 and release a Steam (sigh Origin I guess)/PSN/XBLA $15-20 game. Co-op campaign and much expanded horde mode (basically ODST in other words). Guns unlock as one system whether you're playing single player, co-op, or horde. Armor is here too with a very similar system. The microtransaction thing is back, but you can also buy specific favorites with in-game or IRL currency. Free updates should keep the game interesting for at least as long as ME3's MP.

2) THE CHOICES WE PROMISED FROM THE SERIES AS A WHOLE ONE-OFF. Rip off Witcher and make a game where your choices have deep and immediate impact. With no sequels planned for, there's no reason to make sure all the endings are basically the same or whatever. Maybe you join Cerberus. Maybe you destroy it for good. S'up to you. I would say this is ridiculous and would never happen, but from an engine perspective, it would be Mass Effect 3 in every way (like Gears Judgment in comparison to Gears 3).

Or do both and people will have no reason to cry except "Waahh, they should abandon their most popular IP because I don't understand how capitalism works!" mad.gif emot-words.gif

I would be totally down for a standalone ME multiplayer.

I think I wrote that a bazillion pages ago. happy.gif I always felt that a fully featured squad based, stand alone game was the way to go instead of trying to weld it onto the single player game.

Except, as pointed out to you back then, the trial run was a MUCH better idea. Note how absolutely covered in shitty bugs the MP is. The theoretical full game can be designed in a more competent fashion with the experience they've built from this. Multiplayer games most of all need iteration to be any good. It seems they didn't leave enough room to patch ME3 or else they would have already (probably)?

But yeah, we're in agreement that a (NOT full price) MP focused game would rock. Why am I insisting on not full price? Because hopefully SOMEBODY learned something from Crackdown 2, Syndicate, and Lost Planet 2. Great ideas that nobody was gonna jump on for $60... because you need to convince at least 2 other people (but ideally 3) to get it too.

Good news for Ps3 players and late starters. Now EVERYONE can see the broken promises and inconsistent storytelling that was behind one of the most exciting series of this decade! If they were cool, ME1 would have Pinnacle Station and Bring Down the Sky, 2 would have all the DLC, and 3 would have at least everything free.

Don't forget one of the most cumbersome inventory systems yet committed to code, bizarre go nowhere gathering quests(1), and the thrill of driving the Mako up a 90 degree incline. dry.gif

(1) though I loved how they payed that off in 3 w/Conrad

Heh. How many random, meaningless quests from ME1 can we cram in references to in this one random, mostly meaningless quest about a joke-character in ME3?

Ah yes, good times. ...I need to go play ME1 again. Especially since I've sort of mentally declared everything that came after it non-canon.

It is amusing to see people today try to defend the Mako. The idea of arriving some where and exploring it: awesome! The execution of driving something worse than a family station wagon with boosters through an obstacle course: terribad!

The best part is that experienced ME1 players know that they get FAR more experience for killing things on foot, so for everything but Thresher Maws, they'll bail out and fight things that way. So not only is it a terribly controlled time waster, you don't even want to use its big freakin' gun!

I actually enjoyed driving over enemies in the Mako. Being able to just plow right into armatures and colossi and watch them collapse in a tangle of limbs was very satisfying. Since I wasn't playing for the XP, I was perfectly willing to stay in the Mako and shoot/run over everything. Combat was the major thing I used it for.

QUOTE

Oh, the controls were horribly ungainly, and the maps always made the situation worse by having the easy-to-drive routes be circuitous and obscure, and the direct routes be filled with mountains and such, but still I was at times able to enjoy the Mako for what it was. The fact that I could drive up a sheer cliff with it, however slowly, was fun in and of itself, and there was a certain challenge in learning to pick my routes up the cliffs in order to make the most progress. It was still a pain, but since I wasn't powergaming I was able to find things in the experience that I could enjoy despite it all.

As for ME1 itself, I have beaten the game, from start to finish, thirteen times. I cannot think of any stronger endorsement to give it. Despite the issues, of which it has many, I still went back and played it over and over and over, and enjoyed the heck out of it.

Yeah, I beat ME1... 4 times. Mostly for achievements, but also for the promise of making every decision count. Oh man, it was gonna be incredible to see the differences and how... yeah you get where this is going. I really hope some company makes an RPG LIKE Mass Effect, but with a lower production value so that they don't have to make sure every player plays through every set piece and gets an almost identical experience with different decals standing around to make things 'unique.' Of course, Bioware just blatantly didn't try at certain points. All human council huh? Good choice, we'll not allow you to see them in 2 and delete them from existence in 3. Killed every last Rachni by killing the Rachni Queen huh? Meet their identical twin sister, Rachni Queen 2! Good job blowing up the Collector base, now Cerberus won't get ANYTHING usable from it... except for the main skeleton of the human Reaper and basically anything else they wanted. That stuff survived the explosion. And man, good luck living with yourself for killing Wrex. If you hadn't, he would have never joined you in combat again and been in the rest of the series a grand total of 15 extra minutes. Do you see what you have done?!

CHOICE AND CONSEQUENCE YOU GUYS, SRSLY

More positive post. Patch that supposedly fixes a TON of the standing issues from launch on is supposed to hit sometime today. We're talking fixes for Vanguard charge glitch, making singularity a good thing again, retrieval objects falling through the floor fix, etc. Also there's an operation this weekend.

Wow, I was like 30 minutes early for the REAL news. Another DLC, Retaliation this time. COLLECTORS as a new enemy faction! laugh.gif New Collector types that didn't appear in 2 to keep them at parity with the other factions! New classes and guns as always. Challenge quests to fill up bars in to put doo dads on your profile card and lobbies (because no one is impressed by your N7 number at this point). "Hazard" versions of the levels that exist already. And last and best of all, still free. Woop woop

Link

Release date is October 9th (same day as XCom dry.gif)

Sidenote: Also on the same day as Dishonored! GRRR! What is America's obsession with releasing shit on Tuesdays while in the UK its normally the weekends?

You beat me to this SHOE! I love the Scions new look! This was predicted ages ago mainly due to the fact that two of the models were already in main game. You know what would be awesome if we were allowed to fight Harbie as in some kind of bonus round/wave. And now Turians can fly! So I guess I am coming back to multi now due to this dlc.

Good thing I'm not interested in playing some silly multiplayer for a game I've decided I don't like then. I can devote my full attention to new games. tongue.gif

New games are overrated unless they're Xcom or RE6 or AC3 or... Okay maybe new games ARE rather cool. But ME3 multiplayer is now easily the best free supported console multiplayer game out there. Except for maybe Halo Reach with its Forge maps in the main playlist.

Turian jetpack class. Unclear right now if you can actually fly and like skip ladders or if it's just a movement boost like a more extreme Vorcha dive.

If you charge when you're dying, the glitch activated and made your guy float into the heavens. You should be familiar with it if you played the game AT ALL, it was even in the beta/demo.

You'll need to search the info on your own, but basically Singularity has been completely revamped to be incredible.

huh.gif I remember getting stuck in the air a few times in ME2, but I don't think it was caused by anything like that. I don't remember any such thing happening to me in ME3.

RE6

I don't know... the guys at Giant Bomb did not have many good things to say about RE6. But I'm still interested in Dishonored, and Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition.

Its just its one of the few games, if there are any at all like it before, to have this much free dlc for multiplayer considering it is the type of game which would normally have you pay for something like this.

Then again Bioware/EA is probably getting their money from the microtransactions from people buying the in game packs with real money.
