I sit in the dark,
While far away, invasions
Are fan-disrupted.

Order of chaos
In the restaurant and the streets,
Broken by a step.

Kimiko staring.
Shock, embarrassment, illness?
Or all three at once?

{added 3 Jan 03}

Piro and Kimiko,
Now harsh words divide them.
A stare speaks volumes.

Another patron,
She looks at the guest, and BAM!
Unscheduled damage.

The door ring-a-lings.
"Table ten, party of one."
And guess who it is.

piro finds courage
in his bag, but will he cause
unscheduled damage?

Whether fighting the zombie reserves,
Or dining where you can be served,
Having no reservations
May upset the nation...
...and maybe a young woman's nerves.

Such perfect order
Ruin and sadness managed
Two gaijin walk in...

Once you start moving
It's really very easy
To be swept along

The waiting hangs in
The air as I take this pause
To watch the window-

View that you must see
Every day, and I wonder
What I'll say to you

I'd like to introduce another Japanese poetry form to the forum. It is called Tanka. The meter is 5-7, 5-7, 7. For a fuller explanation, please visit the
In order to get the full effect of tanka, one must read the poem through, then cover the last two lines and just read the first three lines. Then cover the first two lines and read again. If done correctly, the poem will "pivot" about the central line, taking on a slightly different emphasis depending on what lines are being read. As these are my first two attempts at tanka, so I may not have gotten that aspect right, but here goes ...

Is Piro scheming?
With his sketchbook he is seated
Kimiko staring
A girl of nothing but grays
Gray with sickness or with shame?

The order of things
greatly upset by Largo's
Unscheduled damage
Piro's plan has inflicted
on ailing Kimiko's heart

Nice it happens, tanka is well known around here, and is always welcome! Here's another site that features a lot of, in kanji, romaji and English translation:

[!haiku] Hello all forum-haiku lovers,
Being it so that this strip is so marvelous, I thought I'd honor it with my first forum attempt at this new (to the haiku threads, not history) poetry form.
This is what is known as "skaldic poetry". It is an ancient norse form, originally created for Lojban. It is constructed around the idea of beats (accented syllables) that rhyme, half-rhyme and alliterate. For more information, you can visit . This form might be referred to as "norse haiku" for the purposes of these threads.
Hope you enjoy it: [/!haiku]

On the way to inquiry,
-- appears our hero piro.
Standing still but not long,
-- steps he inside prideful.
What now will he eat there?
-- will it be a grilled steak?
Or will our Kimiko
-- Create a special treat?

There's welcome in Westburg
For warriors wary;
Wardens will watch -- war
Without leave's a worry.

Look before leaping?
But there'd be no swashbucklers
Or love at first sight.
The Tao that can be scheduled's
A lame poser for the Tao.
